?AIM: To evaluate the effects on recovering of corneal wound and postoperative discomfort of different methods for primary pterygium.?METHODS: Forty-seven cases ( 60 eyes ) of primary pterygium were excised under microscope with limbal epithelial transplantation, with sharp dissection ( 24 cases, 30 eyes, Group A) and blunt dissection (23 cases, 30 eyes, Group B).All cases were followed up for 1d to 1mo.?RESULTS: The recovering of corneal wound was better in Group B on 1st day and 3rd day after surgery.Pain, photophobia and tears, foreign body sensation were more serious in group A on 1st day after surgery with a statistically significant difference (P=0.005,0.015,0.012). Pain, photophobia and tears, foreign body sensation were more serious in Group A on 3rd day after surgery with a statistically significant difference ( P=0.019,0.018, 0.015).There was no statistically significant difference on 1wk and 1mo after surgery (P>0.05).? CONCLUSION: Compared with sharp dissection, primary pterygium excised with blunt dissection can significantly improve recovering of corneal wound and postoperative discomfort.

Theexcretionofurinaryandplasmametabolitesofsalbutamolwasstudiedusingultrahigh performance liquid chromatography electrospray time-of-flight mass spectrometry, after a single intragastric gavaged dose administration with salbutamol. The software of Agilent MassHunter Metabolite ID was employed to find and identify the chemical structure of metabolites of salbutamol. Five metabolites from salbutamol were identified. Metabolites identified in swine urine included glucuronide conjugate salbutamol, N-oxide-salbutamol, hydroxyl-salbutamol, methoxyl-salbutamol and dehydrated hydroxyl-salbutamol. Whereas, only the parent drug, glucuronide conjugate salbutamol and dehydrated hydroxyl-salbutamol were observed in swine plasma.

Objective To evaluate the optical quality in patients with meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) by using double-pass optical quality analysis system (OQAS-Ⅱ) for offering the reference data for clinical practices.Methods A total of 50 patients with a diagnosis of MGD,who were divided into MGD with dry eye disease (DED) group (n =22) and MGD without DED group (n =28) according to the results of tear film break-up time (BUT) and Schirmer I test (SIT),and another 25 healthy subjects were enrolled in this study.Then several parameters,including modulation transfer function cutoff (MTF cutoff),Strehl ratio (SR) and objective scattering index (OSI),were measured to evaluate the optical quality by using OQAS-Ⅱ.Additional clinical examination,including meibomian gland and tear film assessment were per formed and compared between the three groups.In addition,a correlation analysis was conducted among OSI,MTF cutoff,SR,BUT,SIT and meibomian gland assessment.Results Statistical differences were approached in MTF cutoff,SR,OSI of the three groups (all P ＜ 0.05).The MTF cutoff and SR in MGD without DED group were significantly lower than those in the control group [(31.36 + 1.83) c · deg-1 vs.(35.87 ± 1.59)c·deg-1,(0.21 +0.02) vs.(0.23 ±0.03)],but the OSI got higher [(0.57+ 0.06) vs.(0.45 ±± 0.06)] (all P ＜ 0.05).The SR and MTF cutoff in MGD patients with DED was significantly lower than those in MGD patients without DED [(27.87 ±± 3.08),c·deg-1 vs.(31.36±±1.83)c· deg-1,(0.16 ±±0.02) vs.(0.21 ± 0.02)],but OSIgot significantly higher [(0.72 ± 0.10) vs.(O.57 ± 0.06)] (all P ＜ 0.05).Among the three groups,OSI,MTF cutoff and SR showed no significant correlation with BUT,SIT and meibomian gland assessment (all P ＞ 0.05).Conclusion There is changes in visual quality parameters in MGD patients by OQAS-Ⅱ,and MGD with DED patients has significant changes than MGD patients without DED.

To obtain the tervalent fusion toxin gene (named FT),three toxin gene fragments from three species of Vibrio parahaemolyticus,Vibrio vulnificus and Vibrio mimicus were connected with the flexible linker (GGGGS) using overla Pextension PCR. The three toxin gene fragments respectively encode the mature proteins of the thermostable direct hemolysin (TDH) of V. parahaemolyticus,the cytotoxin (VVC) of V. vulnificus and the heat-labile hemolysin (VMH) of V. mimicus. The identity of FT nucleic acid sequence was 99.6% with the corresponding toxin gene fragments. The open reading frame of FT was 3225 bp,encoding 1074 amino acid residues with the predicted molecular weight (MW) of 120.4 kDa. Then,FT was subcloned into the expression vector pET-22b(+). The construction of recombinant expression vector pET-22b-FT was followed by transforming into E. coli BL21(DE3) for expression. The SDS-PAGE electrophoresis results indicated that the MW of the fusion toxin protein was matched to the predicted MW. After induction by 1 mmol/L IPTG at 37℃,the fusion toxin protein was effectively expressed in E. coli BL21(DE3) with the amount of 11.49% through thin layer chromatography scanning (TLCS) analysis. Cavia cobaya was immunized using the purified cytorrhyctes to produce the anti-serum. Through the determination of the optimum working conditions,the sensitivity test,the specificity test,repeatability test and sample simulation test,the indirect ELISA method was established,which is a broad-spectrum,rapid and specific to detect various of food-poisoning Vibrio simultaneously.

Objective To evaluate the CT findings of pancreatic carcinoid tumors.Methods The CT imaging data of five patients with pancreatic carcinoid tumors confirmed by pathology were retrospectively analyzed.Results The tumors ranged in maximum diameter from 2.0 to 11.0 cm with a mean of 6.4 cm. On unenhanced CT,the tumors were slightly hypodense relative to the pancreatic parenchyma,homogenous in 2 cases,and heterogenous in 3 cases.One tumor showed calcification.After contrast material injection, the solid component of the tumor showed marked heterogenous enhancement on the arterial phase scanning in 3 cases,and mild heterogenous enhancement in 2 cases.The degree of tumor enhancement was less intense than the surrounding pancreatic parenchyma due to necrosis of various degree,which led to the cystic appearance of the tumor in 1 ease.On the portal phase scanning,all tumors showed marked enhancement similar to that of the pancreatic parenchyma.On the delayed phase scanning,the degree of enhancement was more intense than the surrounding pancreatic parenchyma in 1 case.Liver metastases with retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy and peripancreatic vessels invasion were seen in 1 case.No dilatation of the biliary tract or pancreatic duct was present.Conclusion The CT features of pancreatic carcinoid tumors included infrequent dilatation of the biliary tract or pancreatic duct and unusual vascular involvement,calcification within the mass,marked enhancement similar to that of the surrounding pancreatic parenchyma during the portal phase scanning and more intense during the delayed phase scanning.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the influence of gender on the development and prognosis of atherosclerosis obliterans (ASO).

METHODSEight hundred and forty-two patients with ASO were treated from January 2000 to February 2007. The clinical data were retrospectively collected. And the influence of gender on the development and prognosis of ASO was investigated.

RESULTSAmong the 842 patients, 661 were male and 181 were female. The ratio of male to female was 3.65 : 1.00, and the ratio decreased with increasing age. The mean age of male and female patients were (71.7 +/- 9.0) years and (75.7 +/- 6.8) years, respectively. Significantly more iliac lesions occurred in male patients than in female, while female patients experienced more infrainguinal lesions. The coexistence rate of diabetes and amputation rate were significantly higher in female patients than in male (46.4%/24.7% and 16.0%/9.1%, respectively).

CONCLUSIONThe female patients with ASO appear to have poorer prognosis than the male, despite their lower incidence of ASO.

This study was purposed to construct lentivirus vector containing human homeobox gene HOXB4 and explore changes of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HUCMSC) after infected with HOXB4 mediated by lentivirus. PCR amplification was performed to obtain HOXB4, which was cloned in lenti-shuttle vector. Four-plasmid lentivirus packaging system was used to transfect HEK293T cells. After 48 h, lentivirus Lenti-HOXB4 was harvested and lentivirus titer was determined. Lenti-HOXB4 was used to infect HUCMSC. The infected cells were observed under inverted fluorescence microscope to determine the optimal multiplicity of infection (MOI). Meanwhile, RT-PCR, immune fluorescence staining, CCK-8 and flow cytometry (FCM) were used to determine the expression of HOXB4 and its effect on cell growth. The results indicated that lenti-HOXB4 was successfully obtained by co-transfecting the 293T cells with four plasmids. The determined virus titer was 3×10(8) TU/ml; when MOI was 20. Lenti-HOXB4 had a high transfection rate in HUCMSC, over 80%. In HUCMSC infected with lenti-HOXB4, the expression of target gene could be detected both at mRNA and protein levels. It could promote the proliferation of HUCMSC. FCM results indicated HOXB4 gene did not significantly influence the surface marker of HUCMSC. It is concluded that HOXB4 gene can promote the high proliferation of HUCMSC and does not significantly influence the expression of the surface marker of HUCMSC.

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of arthroscopy and fibula osteotomy in the treatment of medial knee osteoarthritis.Methods Thirty-six patients with medial knee osteoarthritis treated in our hospital from September 2014 to September 2016 were divided into two groups according to the acceptable surgical protocol.The control group was treated by fibula osteotomy,and the observation group received arthroscopy combined with fibula osteotomy.The clinical signs and symptoms,VAS and ISOA scores were evaluated and compared between the two groups.Results The control group of 18 cases,clinical recovery in 0 cases,markedly effective in 7 cases,effective in 8 cases,3 cases with no effect,the effective rate was 38.9％;observation group of 18 cases,3 cases clinically cured,effective in 10 cases,effective in 5 cases,the effective rate was 72.2％.The effective rate of observation group was better than that of the control group,the difference was signicant (P ＜ 0.05).VAS and ISOA in both groups were significantly improved after operation,the difference was signicant (P ＜ 0.05);VAS improvement in observation group was better than that in control group,the difference was signicant(P ＜ 0.05),ISOA score in observation group was significantly better than that in control group,the difference was signicant(P ＜0.01).The clinical signs and symptoms(pain and numbness,walking,living and working abilities,tenderness,straight leg raising test,knee and Achilles reflex,total score) in two groups were improved respectively compared with those before treatment,and the differences were statistically significant(P ＜ 0.05).The pain and numbness,walking,tenderness,straight leg raising test and total score in the observation group were significantly different from those in the control group(P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion The arthroscopy and fibula osteotomy is safe and feasible to treat patients of medial knee osteoarthritis with less traumatic,more effective and better functional recovery.
