Depression is one of the diseases with the highest disability rate in the world. A large number of studies have shown that the intake of unsaturated fatty acids can deal with depression while chronic overconsumption of saturated fatty acids is a risk factor for depression. It was suggested that the mechanism of saturated fatty acids inducing depression is related to the following four aspects: regulating the function which links to depression in whole brain and specific brain regions, including the hippocampus, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, the striatum, and the prefrontal cortex; stimulating the secretion of inflammatory factors; affecting the balance and function of metabolic regulatory hormones, including leptin, adiponectin, glucocorticoid, and insulin; inducing the disturbance of intestinal flora. This article reviews the relationship between dietary fatty acids and depression, and the possible mechanisms by which saturated fatty acids induce depression from the four aspects mentioned above.

Chinese Journal of Plastic Surgery 2003;19(4):265-266
OBJECTIVEAttending to observe the bony healing on hard palate after palatal repair, and to discuss the factors affecting on it.
METHODS52 patients with repaired cleft palate over 5 years postoperatively were examined, the CT scan of head was taken. The incidence of the bone regeneration among the patients examined was calculated, the position and quality of bone tissue were measured according to the CT images. After all, analysis was applied to evaluate the factors affecting on the bone tissue formation.
RESULTSFormation of bone bridge was found in the 37 cleft gaps out of 52 patients (71%), the ratio of the sex among the patients who had bone bridge was 1:1, there was no obvious difference between unilateral and bilateral cleft palate. Considering the operation age with the bone formation, the highest percentage of bone bridge formation fell into the group of 4-7 years old, and the most occurring region were in premolar and anterior part of molar area.
CONCLUSIONThere could be bony healing(regeneration bone tissue RBT) after palatal repair on cleft palate patients. The operation age could be an important affecting factor to RBT, but the sex and the clinical type of cleft palate make no difference on the bone tissue formation.

Objective:To evaluate the safety of cardiac catheterization intervention therapy and transthoracic small incision surgery in the occlusion bydomestic occluder under echocardiography guiding in patients with atrial septal defect (ASD).Methods:A total of 1 080 patients with ASD in the occlusion by domestic occluder were analyzed retrospectively, and the interventional treatment were performed in 734 cases through cardiac catheterization intervention therapy and 346 cases through transthoracic small incision surgery. The patients undergone cardiac catheterization intervention therapy were guided under the digital substraction angiography (DSA) and were monitored by transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) in the whole interventional process, and the efficacy was evaluated with TTE.The occlusion of transthoracic small incision surgery was guided under the transesophageal echocardiography (TEE),which was used to monitor the position of occluder and evaluate the efficacy immediately. Results:Two kinds of intervention in the occlusion by domestic occluder had achieved satisfactory results in patients with ASD.There was no statistically difference in the longest size of ASD between the 2 intervention methods, while there were statistically differences in the ratio between ASD longest diameter and atrial septal length, and the size of the occlusion, and the disparity between the size of the occluder and ASD longest diameter (D value),respectively (all P<0.05).When the size of arithmetic mean of the ASD was <30 mm,the success rate of the 2 methods was both 100%.When the size of arithmetic mean of the ASD was ≥ 30 mm,the success rate was 100% in the transthoracic small incision surgery and 50% in the cardiac catheterization intervention therapy. Conclusion:Domestic occluder is safe.Compared with the imported one,its cost is lower. When the size of the defects is same, the occlusion is smaller in the transthoracic small incision surgery compared with that in the cardiac catheterization intervention therapy. When the size of arithmetic mean of the ASD is ≥ 30 mm,the success rate of the transthoracic small incision surgery is higher compared with the cardiac catheterization intervention therapy. When the cardiac catheterization intervention therapy fails, the transthoracic small incision surgery may be a better choice.

Chinese Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery 2008;11(4):348-353
OBJECTIVETo provide ideal animal models for exploring pathogenesis and experimental therapy of primary malignant melanoma of the small intestine.
METHODSThe histologically intact primary and liver metastatic fragments derived from surgical specimens of one patient with metastatic malignant melanoma of the small intestine were orthotopically implanted in the small intestinal mucous layer of nude mice. The take rate, invasion and liver metastasis were observed. Morphology (light microscopy, electron microscopy), immunophenotype analysis, flow cytometry and karyotype analysis were applied for the original human tumors and the transplanted tumors.
RESULTSThe primary and liver metastatic fragments of malignant melanoma of the small intestine were successfully implanted in nude mice. After continuous passages in nude mice,an orthotopic model of human primary malignant melanoma of the small intestine(from the primary focus)in nude mice (termed HSIM-0501) and a liver metastatic model of human primary malignant melanoma of the small intestine (from the liver metastatic focus) in nude mice (termed HSIM-0502) were established. Histological examination of transplanted tumors revealed high-grade melanoma. S-100 protein and HMB45 were positive. Massive melanin granules and melanin complex were seen in cytoplasm of tumor cells.Chromosomal modal number was between 55 and 59. DNA index (DI) was 1.49-1.61, representing heteroploid. HSIM-0501 and HSIM-0502 were maintained for 25 and 27 passages in nude mice respectively. Three hundred and seventeen nude mice were used for transplantation. Both the take rate after transplantation and resuscitation rate of liquid nitrogen cryopreservation were 100%. HSIM-0501 exhibited 46.2% liver metastasis and 36.7% lymph node metastases. In HSIM-0502, both liver and lymph node metastases were 100%.The transplanted tumors autonomically and invasively grew in the small intestines of nude mice and hematogenous metastasis, lymph node metastasis and celiac planting metastasis occurred.
CONCLUSIONTwo nude mice liver metastatic models of human primary malignant melanoma of the small intestine are successfully established, which provide ideal animal models for the research of pathogenesis, metastasis biology and anti-metastatic experimental therapy of primary malignant melanoma of the small intestine.

Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2005;26(4):390-395
Objective:To determine whether heme oxygenase-2(HO-2) gene deletion can attenuate oxidative injury induced by free Fe2+. Methods:Stereotactic injection of 10 μl sterile FeCl2 (10 mmol/L) was made into the right striata of HO-2 knockout mice and wild-type mice. Brain edema severity was measured at 24 h. Cell viability, protein oxidation, and lipid oxidation of the basal ganglia were determined at 72 h. Western blot analysis was applied for heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) measurement. Results: Brain water content significantly decreased in HO-2 knockout mice at 24 h compared with wild-type mice. Protein oxidation and lipid oxidation significantly decreased in HO-2 knockout mice at 72 h compared with wild-type mice, while the striatal cell viability increased significantly. HO-1 expression at baseline and 72 h was also similar to that in wild-type mice. Conclusion:These results show that HO-2 gene deletion can protect basal ganalia cells from free Fe2+ -mediated oxidative stress injury, suggesting that selective inhibition of HO-2 may have a protective effect on brain oxidative injury.
