1.The X-ray findings of spondylometaphyseal dysplasia

Objective To explore the clinical,radiological findings and pathogenic factor of spondylometaphyseal dysplasia.Methods Five cases were reported and the relevant documents were studied retrospectively.Plain X-ray film was performed in all patients.Results There were 4 male and 1 female,age ranged from 4 to 15 years with average of 9 years.The main features of 5 cases included delayed bone age,stature short,short trunk,waddling gait noted,scoliosis in 2 cases,kyphoscoliosis in 1 case,severe genu valgum in 2 cases.The main X-ray appearance of 5 cases is multiple irregularities of long bones metaphyses associated with platyspondylia,epiphysis is normal.Type Ⅰ SMD in 2 cases,Type Ⅱ SMD in 1 case,Type Ⅲ SMD in 2 cases.Conclusion When we meet children with delayed bone age and stature short,and muhiple irregularities of long bones metaphyses associated with platyspondylia were seen in X-ray plain film.we should think about spondylometaphyseal dysplasia.
2.Effects of perming, combing and stretching on hair keratins.

OBJECTIVE:
Research of the hair damage due to perming, combing and stretching can be of important value for forensic hair individual identification.
METHODS:
The normal human hairs were treated with perming combing and stretching, and the keratins of the damage hair were analysed by using SDS-PAGGE and laser densimeter.
RESULTS:
Perming, combing and stretching brought about hair damage; The keratins of the damage hair were obviously reduced at the rang of molecular weight of 67,000-43,000 dalton.
CONCLUSION
The loss of the damage hair keratins were increased with the degree of the hair damage.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the pathological variations in internal hemorrhoid and evaluate the expression of nitric- oxide synthase(NOS),vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),matrix metalloproteinase- 2(MMP2) and MMP9.
METHODSNormal anal cushion and internal hemorrhoids tissue samples were obtained from 24 patients with iii degree hemorrhoids after procedure for prolapse and hemorrhoids(PPH) procedure. The expression of NOS, VEGF, MMP2, MMP9 and CD34 were detected by immunohistochemical staining; the microvessel density (MVD) was counted by anti- CD34 antibody; the elastic fibers were detected by orcein staining.
RESULTSThere were statistically significant differences in the expression of MVD, VEGF, MMP9 between internal hemorrhoid tissue and normal anal cushions(P< 0.05). iNOS was significantly increased in hemorrhoid tissue, but no significant difference between normal anal cushions and hemorrhoid tissue. Morphological abnormalities such as breaking, distortion, mortality, hyaline degeneration were found in elastic fibers of internal hemorrhoid tissue, but not in normal anal cushions.
CONCLUSIONAngiogenesis is evident in hemorrhoid tissue, suggesting the possible mechanism in the pathogenesis of hemorrhoids. The direct degeneration effect of MMP9 on supporting structure elastic fibers in anal cushion is another important mechanism. The high expression of iNOS suggests the inflammatory factors involve in the pathogenesis of hemorrhoids, and NO may be involve in pathological effect on hemorrhoids.

4.Application of D6S1043 and D12S391 loci in forensic paternity testing.

OBJECTIVE:
The aim was to investigate the polymorphisms of D6S1043 and D12S391 loci among Han population and evaluate their values in paternity testing. MERTHODS: By using fluorescence dye-labeled primers and capillary electrophoresis, the allele frequencies of the two STR loci among 192 unrelated individuals were investigated.
RESULTS:
Twelve alleles were observed in both D6S1043 and D12S391 loci. The ranges of allele frequencies were from 0.0026 to 0.1719 and from 0.0026 to 0.2292, respectively. The discrimination power of D6S1043 and D12S391 were 0.9656 and 0.9510. The Average exclusion probability in paternity testing for duos were 0.573 and 0.510. The Average exclusion probability in paternity testing for trios were 0.731 and 0.679, respectively. The genotypes frequencies met Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium expectation.
CONCLUSION
The results show that D6S1043 and D12S391 have high values in forensic paternity testing.

5.First-line Xeloda (Capecitabine) treatment for advanced and recurrent colorectal cancer.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the efficacy and safety of capecitabine as first-line therapy in patients with advanced and recurrent colorectal cancer.
METHODSFrom December 2000 to November 2001, sixty patients with advanced and recurrent colorectal cancer received first-line capecitabine treatment given at a dose of 1250 mg/m(2) twice daily, on days 1 - 14 every 21 days. At least 2 cycles were administered.
RESULTSThe overall response rate was 23.3% with 14 PR, 24 SD (40.0%) and 15 PD. The median survival time was 14.7 months. The survival rate was 63.9% at 12-months and 33.4% at 24-months. Grade III-IV adverse effects were diarrhea in 4 patients (6.6%), anemia in 2 (3.3%) and hand-foot syndrome (HFS) in 1 (1.7%); Grade I-II adverse effects were hyperpigmentation in 20 (33.3%), HFS in 18 (30.0%) and diarrhea in 10 (16.7%).
CONCLUSIONCapecitabine is an efficacious and better-tolerated alternative treatment for the patients with advanced and recurrent colorectal cancer.

6. Inhibitory effect of recombinant human semaphorin 3A on angiogenesis of gastric cancer and the associated mechanisms

Objective To investigate the expression of semaphorin 3A (Sema3A) and its receptor neuropilin-1 (NRP-1) in gastric cancer and its correlation with microvessel density (MVD), and then to explore the effect of recombinant human Sema3A on angiogenesis of gastric cancer and the associated mechanisms. Methods Forty cases of gastric cancer tissues and its corresponding adjacent normal tissues were used to detecte the expression of Sema3A, NRP-1 and MVD in tissues by immunohistochemistry method . The expression level of Sema3A in serum of gastric cancer patient group and normal control group were measured by Enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay (ELISA). Western blotting was used to detect the expression of Sema3A and NRP-1 in five gastric cancer cell lines (MGC-803,HGC-27,MKN-28,SGC-7901,MKN-45) and human gastric mucosal epithelial cell (GES-1). Transwell chamber was used to construct non-contact in vitro co-culture system, in which the effects of different concentrations of recombinant human Sema3A on angiogenesis in gastric cancer were analyzed by tube formation assay preliminarily. The expression levels of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) and NRP-1 in co-culture system were detected by Western blotting. Results The expression levels of Sema3A in gastric cancer tissues, cell lines and patient serum were significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0. 05), while the expression of NRP-1 in gastric cancer tissues and MKN-28 cells was significantly increased, and both of them were associated with TNM staging of gastric cancer (P < 0. 05) . In vitro co-culture system, The tube forming abilities of human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) were decreased in recombinant human Sema3A treated group, and this phenomenon was concentration dependent. The expression of VEGFR2 protein was down-regulated by recombinant human Sema3A. Conclusion The expression of Sema3A was decreased in gastric cancer tissues, cell lines and patient serum, and negatively correlated with microvessel density. The recombinant human Sema3A could inhibit the angiogenesis of gastric cancer in vitro, which may be related to down-regulation of VEGFR2 protein expression.
7.Effect of passive motion of from lower extremity on muscle fatigue when the back under head-down tilting

Objective To study the effect of passive motion from lower extremity on electromyography (EMG) activity of major muscles when the back under head down tilting state. Methods Thirty healthy subjects were selected. The EMGs of erector spinal and trapezius muscles were recorded and analyzed when human body was under head-down tilting at angel of 0°, 10°, 20° and 27° in static mode, respectively, in sway mode (along the axis of Z with frequencies of 120 and 140/min, respectively) and in vibration mode (along the axis of Y with frequency of 680/min) with the help of multifunctional test bed. Results In the static mode, the median frequency (MF) decreased with the increase of head-down titling angle; in the sway mode, the MF at each of 4 head-down tilting angles was smaller than that in the static mode. When the frequency was 120/min, the MF decreased with head-down tilting angle increasing, but when the frequency reached 140/min, the variation of MF became irregular. In the vibration mode, the MF increased with the increase of head-down tilting angle and was larger than that in the static mode. Conclusions In the static mode, the muscle fatigue increased with the head down tilting angle increasing; in the vibration mode, smaller head-down tilting angle should be selected to achieve better treatment effect; but in the sway mode, larger head-down tilting angle would be better, and the sway frequency should be set lower than 120/min to avoid potential damage due to excessive muscle fatigue.
8.Risk for type 2 diabetes mellitus death attributed to insufficient whole grain intake in seven regions of China, 2005-2018.

Objective: To estimate the risk for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) death attributed to insufficient whole grain intake in seven regions of China from 2005 to 2018. Methods: Based on China National Nutrition and Health Surveys and China Adult Chronic Disease and Nutrition Surveillance, ordinary Kriging method and locally weighted regression were used to estimate the level of whole grain intake of Chinese residents from 2005 to 2018. Based on the results of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 and Chronic Diseases Risk Factors Surveillance in China, we calculated the population attributable fraction (PAF), attributable death number and attributable mortality rate of T2DM due to insufficient whole grain intake in people aged ≥20 years in different regions of China, and we used the 2010 Chinese census data to compare the changes in T2DM deaths attributed to insufficient intake of whole grains in seven regions of China. Results: The whole grain intake levels of Chinese people over 20 years old in 2002, 2010 and 2015 were 19.0 g/d, 14.3 g/d and 19.8 g/d, respectively. The estimated overall whole grain intake level was 20.1 g/d in Chinese residents in 2018, and the intake level was 19.4 g/d in men and 20.8 g/d in women. Among the seven regions, the intake level was highest in northern China (47.4 g/d) and lowest in southwestern China (6.0 g/d). In 2018, the PAF was lowest in northern China (12.8%) and highest in southwestern China (19.3%). From 2005 to 2018, the PAF varied in the seven regions, and the PAF in northeastern China fluctuated around 18.5%. Other regions showed downward trends, especially in northern China and northwestern China, decreased by 26.4% and 21.2%, respectively. Over the past 14 years, the number of attributable deaths in the seven regions showed upward trends, with the highest annual average growth rate of 6.7% in southern China and the lowest annual average growth rate of 2.4% in northern China. In 2018, the standardized T2DM mortality rate attributed to insufficient whole grain intake in China was 3.13/100 000, and the attributable mortality was 3.21/100 000 in men and 3.05/100 000 in women. The standardized attributable mortality rate was highest in southwestern China (3.97/100 000) and lowest in northern China (1.78/100 000). From 2005 to 2018, the standardized attributable mortality rate increased by 11.5% in men and decreased by 8.1% in women. The standardized attributable mortality rate in southwestern, southern and central China increased by 23.7%, 21.3% and 4.2%, respectively. The standardized attributable mortality rate in northern, northwestern, eastern and northeastern China decreased by 20.9%, 11.0%, 4.5% and 3.9%, respectively. Conclusion: The whole grain intake level of Chinese residents was low, and the whole grain intake of residents in all seven regions should be increased, especially in the southwest, and men should have more whole grain intake than women to reduce the death risk in patients with T2DM.

9.Biomechanical effects of different traction modes on lumbar spine

Objective To study biomechanical effects of the lumbar spine under different traction conditions by using three-dimensional (3D) finite element method. Methods The CT images of lumbar segment L1-5 were input to the Mimics 10.01 for developing 3D geometrical model of L1-5. Then the mesh model of L1-5 was obtained using Geomagic Studio 12.0 and Hypermesh 11.0. The finite element simulation of the lumbar spine under different traction conditions was made by using Abaqus. Results Head-down titling angle was related to the nucleus pulposus stress. When the head-down tilting angle was smaller than 10°, the nucleus pulposus stress regularly changed with the swing cycle; while the head-down tilting angle exceeded 10°, the stress was decreased. In the swing mode, the annulus inner ring stress was increased to promote intervertebral retraction. Conclusions The traction mode helps to relieve the lumbar pain with the swing helping to coordinate the traction effect in each direction, which can better sort out and relieve the rear facet joint disorders. In addition, patients should be careful to select the appropriate traction force in the treatment to achieve good therapeutic effect.
10.Modal analysis of human lumbar spine using finite element method

Objective To study dynamic characteristics of human lumbar spine using three-dimensional finite element method. Methods Finite element model of lumbar spine (L1~5) was developed and validated based on CT images, and the modal analysis was also conducted. Results A total of top 30-order modal parameters were extracted to obtain dynamic characteristics of the lumbar spine under free boundary conditions. Resonance frequencies of the model were concentrately distributed, but the amplitude of each order varied greatly. Amplitude near L5 segment was much larger, indicating L5 was easily to be injured. This lumbar modal analysis could provide a basis for its further dynamic analysis. Parameters such as natural frequency, modal shape and vibration amplitude of the lumbar spine would be helpful for both lumbar dynamic analysis and optimal design of man-machine interface mechanical equipment.
