Chinese Journal of Laboratory Medicine 2001;0(03):-
Characteristics and measurement principles of reference methods in clinical biochemistry were described.Implementation of reference systems is one of the most effective approaches to improve the accuracy and comparability of clinical laboratory test results.Reference methods are the key components of reference systems.Reference methods should have measurement uncertainties that meet the requirements of the intended use,and thus should be based on reliable measurement principles. For the well-defined biochemistry analytes, reference methods have been almost all based on instrumental analysis.Isotope dilution mass spectrometry (ID/MS) is considered most reliable and has been the major analytical principle of the reference methods.ID/MS analysis is accurate but expensive.Use of other validated instrumental analyses as reference measurement principles would be justified.

OBJECTIVETo record the electrical activities of Antirior cingulate cortex (ACC) neurons by in vivo multi-channel recording methods using the model of complete freund's adjuvant (CFA) induced conditioned place avoidance (C-CPA), which has been set up in our previous studies.
METHODSThe electrode was self-made and the CPA responses were recorded by in vivo multi-channel recording method.
RESULTS(1) The electrical activities of ACC neurons could be successfully recorded by the self-made electrode. (2) Before or after the injection of CFA, rats were respectively conditioned to the different place. The firing rates of ACC neurons in the CFA-paired place vs that in the non-CFA-paired place was (0.853 ± 1.377) imp/s vs (0.221 ± 0.971) imp/s (P < 0.05, n = 26). (3) The CPA responses in the CFA-paired place vs that in the non-CFA-paired place were (303.55 ± 61.77)s vs (140.32 ± 33.52)s(P < 0.05, n = 6).
CONCLUSIONThe firing rates of rACC (rostral Anterior Cingulate Cortex) neurons were involved in the occurrence of the affective pain.

The contamination of extrinsic harmful contaminants including mycotoxins, heavy metals and pesticides, etc, brings serious risks to traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs), further to human health. Due to their unique photoluminescence, chemiluminescence, electrochemical and electrochemiluminescence properties, semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) nanoparticles are widely used to immobilize bioprobes and biosensors, etc. In this review, the luminescence characteristics and specific ligands of QDs probles which are used to determine contaminants were summed up. Then, the applications of QDs-coated novel probes in the determination of mycotoxins, heavy metals and pesticides were discussed in detail. In addition, the contamination levels and characteristics of extrinsic harmful residues in TCMs were investigated. Further, the maximum levels of those contaminants in TCMs were compared with those set by various countries. Finally, the future development trends and problems of QDs-coated probes in the determination of those extrinsic residues in TCMs were prospected.

Chinese Journal of Pathology 2013;42(9):609-612
OBJECTIVETo investigate the value of computer-assisted slide-screening system (ThinPrep imaging system, TIS) in the diagnosis of cervical Thinprep smears.
METHODSA total of 19 600 ThinPrep smears were collected, including 9800 slides by TIS-assisted screening from September 2011 to March 2012 and 9800 slides by manual screening from September 2010 to April 2011 as control. The detection rates of abnormal cells and common microbial infection by the different screening methods were compared. With histopathological diagnosis of colposcopic biopsy as the gold standard, the screening efficiency and correlation of cytologic diagnosis among different screening methods were analyzed.
RESULTSCompared with manual screening, the detection rate of abnormal cells in 9800 cases by TIS-assisted screen was increased from 5.4% (525/9800) to 6.8% (665/9800), mainly in the categories of ASCUS and LSIL (P < 0.05). TIS had a higher accordance rate between cytologic diagnosis and histopathological diagnosis in the NILM and ASCUS than that by manual screening. False-negative rate of finding abnormal cells by TIS decreased from 8.5% (17/200) to 0.7% (2/289, P < 0.01) with an increased sensitivity compared to manual screening, although the specificity was similar. Both TIS and manual screening had advantages and disadvantages respectively in the detection of microbial organisms. TIS improved screening efficiency by 50%.
CONCLUSIONTIS improves not only the screening efficiency but also the detection of abnormal cells with a reduced false negativity, and it therefore has a broad application prospect.

OBJECTIVE:
To establish the linear regression equation between body height and combined length of manubrium and mesostenum of sternum measured by CT volume rendering technique (CT-VRT) in southwest Han population.
METHODS:
One hundred and sixty subjects, including 80 males and 80 females were selected from southwest Han population for routine CT-VRT (reconstruction thickness 1 mm) examination. The lengths of both manubrium and mesosternum were recorded, and the combined length of manubrium and mesosternum was equal to the algebraic sum of them. The sex-specific linear regression equations between the combined length of manubrium and mesosternum and the real body height of each subject were deduced.
RESULTS:
The sex-specific simple linear regression equations between the combined length of manubrium and mesostenum (x3) and body height (y) were established (male: y = 135.000+2.118 x3 and female: y = 120.790+2.808 x3). Both equations showed statistical significance (P < 0.05) with a 100% predictive accuracy.
CONCLUSION
CT-VRT is an effective method for measurement of the index of sternum. The combined length of manubrium and mesosternum from CT-VRT can be used for body height estimation in southwest Han population.
