Objective To evaluate computed tomographic findings of struma ovarii so as to improve the knowledge of the imaging diagnostics of this disease.Methods Computed tomography (CT)scans and clinical data of 12 pathologically proven struma ovarii were reviewed retrospectively.Scans were evaluated for the laterality,size,margins,configuration,internal architecture,presence of intracystic high attenuation lesions on pre-contrast scans,the presence of calcifications,solid components enhancement,cyst wall enhancement,and ascites.Results All tumors were unilateral and had smooth margins.Cystic (n = 3)or mainly cystic (n = 9) appearance was common to all the tumors.Eight tumors showed a high attenuation lesion in the cyst portion of the mass on pre-con-trast scans.Calcification was found in 5 cases.The solid components showed different degrees of enhancement after administration of contrast medium.The cyst wall showed mild to moderate enhancement after administration of contrast medium.Five cases of tumors accompany a small amount of ascites.On pathology,the solid portions of the tumor consisted of the thyroid tissue and stoma which contained abundant blood vessels and fibrous tissue,and the cystic portions were filled with high gelatinous fluid of eosinophil-ic colloid.Conclusion On CT scans,struma ovarii appeared most often as a smooth marginated multicystic mass with a high attenu-ation lesion and calcification on pre-contrast scans with marked enhancement of the solid components.

Chinese medical student's education system is quite different from that in western countries.Besides,Chinese residency training program is just starting.The professional training of pathologists,who make the final diagnosis in the hospital,is not satisfied.The present situation in China is that overall quality of pathologists is low and varied.The pathology department of Xijing Hospital started to carry out the pathology residency training program since 2009.It is expected to search for a model of pathology residency training program with Chinese characteristics.

Objective To explore the effect and mechanism of stent implantation on the quality of sexual activity in middle and old age male patients with exertional angina pectoris.Methods One hundred and seventy-two male patients with exertional angina pectoris were enrolled in this study,and they were divided into control group (94 patients) and percutaneous coronary intervention group (78 patients).The patients in control group were given routine pharmacotherapy and the patients in percutaneous coronary intervention group were given drug-eluting stent implantation and routine pharmacotherapy.The sexual activity function was evaluated by international index of erectile function (IIEF)-5 scale before treatment and 3 months after treatment.The times of sexual intercourse was added up.The evaluation of angina pectoris was performed by the grade of Canadian cardiovascular society (CCS).At the same time,the walking distance and heart rate were measured through 6-minute walking test.The left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) was detected by echocardiogram.Results After treatment for 3 months,the scores of IIEF-5,the degree of sexual satisfaction,the times of sexual intercourse and the grade of CCS in percutaneous coronary intervention group were significantly improved compared with those in control group [(20.58 ± 7.36) scores vs.(16.38 ± 6.35) scores,(4.32 ± 1.38) scores vs.(2.51 ± 1.89) scores,(6.3 ± 3.2) times/month vs.(3.5 ± 1.6) times/month,(1.10 ± 0.43) grades vs.(2.50 ± 1.1 0) grades] (P ＜ 0.05).The walking distance and heart rate after 6-minute walking test and LVEF in percutaneous coronary intervention group were significant improved compared with those in control group [(386 ± 82) m vs.(281 ± 86) m,(95 ± 18) times/minute vs.(122 ± 25) times/minute,(65.2 ± 11.2)％ vs.(55.6 ± 13.8)％] (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions Stent implantation can significandy improve the quality of sexual activity in middle and old age male patients with exertional angina pectoris.The mechanisms are associated with the exercise capacity increasing and the frequency of angina pectoris attacks decreasing during sexual intercourse.

Objective To investigate the influence of proton pump inhibitors (lansoprazole and rabeprazole) on dual-antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) in patients with coronary heart disease.Methods One hundred and eighty-one cases of coronary heart disease with DAPT were selected,and they were divided into control group (66 cases,no proton pump inhibitors administered),lansoprazole group (65 cases,lansoprazole administered) and rabeprazole group (50 cases,rabeprazole administered).100 mg/day of aspirin and 75 mg/day of clopidogrel were concomitantly used in all patients.Platelet aggregation rate,platelet aggregation threshold index (PATI) and adenosine diphosphate (ADP) was measured.Results The ADP-PATI in control group was (3.47 ± 0.96) μ mol/L,lansoprazole group was (3.28 ± 1.05) μ mol/L,rabeprazole group was (3.32 ±0.83) μ mol/L,and there was no statistically significant difference among three groups (P＞0.05).There was also no statistically significant difference in platelet aggregation rate and collagen-PATI among three groups (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusion In patients with coronary artery disease,the concomitant use of lansoprazole or rabeprazole does not affect antiplatelet action during DAPT.

Objective To investigate the expression of GRP78 and caspase-12 on the auditory cortex and to study the effects of endoplasmic reticulum stress in the auditory cortex neuron apoptosis after the brain ischemia reperfusion injury in guinea pig.Methods Fifty healthy male guinea pigs were selected and randomly divided into 5 groups which were hormal group group A(reperfusion for 6 hours),group B(reperfusion for 12 hours),group C (reperfusion for 24 hours),group D(reperfusion for 72 hours).The cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury model was produced by the occlusion of bilateral common carotid arteries.The guinea pigs were sacrificed at reperfusion of 6, 12,24,and 72 hours respectively after they received ABR tests.The pathological changes were observed by HE and the levels of GRP78 and caspase-12 protein were detected by immunohistochemistry and Western blot.Results The hearing thresholds increased gradually from the normal group to group B,and decreased gradually from group C to group D,but the thresholds of group D were still higher than that of the normal group.HE staining showed that the neurons in the normal control group were arranged in order,the cytoplasm was abundant,large and round.The cells were stained clearly.After reperfusion,the number of neurons in each time point was decreased,the nucleus presented atrophic,fragmented,the disappeared.The expression of GRP78 and caspase-12 protein in normal con-trol group was only a trace or a small amount by immunohistochemistry and Western blot.The expression of GRP78 and caspase-12 began to inerease.The expression of GRP78 reached the peak at reperfusion of 12 hours and de-creased gradually.There were significant statistic differences between each group comparison.The expression of caspase-12 reached the peak at reperfusion of 24 hours,then decreased gradually.There was no statistic difference between group A and group B.There were significant statistic differences anong other groups.Conclusion Endo-plasmic reticulum stress(ERS)may be induced by brain ischemia reperfusion injury,and can increase the expression of GRP78 and caspase-12.GRP78 and caspase-12 participate in the process of neuron apoptosis on auditory cor-tex caused by ERS.

AIM: To observe the expressions of aquaporin 2 (AQP2) in kidney tissues and the contents of endotoxin (ET), interleukin-1 β (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in serum in emphysema model rats, and to investigate the relationship between lungs and kidney in humoral metabolism. METHODS: The rats of emphysema were treated by injecting lipopolysaccharide into the trachea with cigarette smoking. Immunohistochemistry and Western blotting analysis were used to observe the expression of AQP2 in kidney tissues. RT-PCR was applied to detect the expression of AQP2 mRNA in kidney tissues. Blood sample and lung tissue were taken and the levels of ET, IL-1β and TNF-α were measured by radioimmunoassay. RESULTS: AQP2 expression in the kidney tissue in model group was greater than that in control group, and the expression of AQP2 mRNA showed the same results (P<0.01). ET, IL-1β and TNF-α levels in serum and lung tissue in model group were markedly higher than those in control group (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: In the emphysema model rats, AQP2 expression is up-regulated in the kidney tissue. The mechanism of emphysema may be related to increasing the levels of ET, IL-1β and TNF-α in the serum and lung tissue obviously.

Objective To investigate the effect of the eye-acupuncture therapy on serum TNF-α levels in rats with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury and the related mechanism. Methods Healthy SD rats were randomly divided into four groups: normal group, sham-operated control group, ischemia-reperfusion model group and eye-acupuncture group according to body weight. Sham-operated control group, ischemia-reperfusion model group and eye-acupuncture group were divided into the 3h group, the 24h group and the 72h group, a total of 10 groups (n=8). To establish the rat model of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion by suture method in ischemia-reperfusion model group and eye-acupuncture group. Eye-acupuncture was separately started immediately after reperfusion and at 30 min before sampling in the 3h eye-acupuncture group, besides, eye-acupuncture was separately taken every 12h in the 24h eye-acupuncture group and in the 72h eye-acupuncture group. The rats in normal group were not treated, those in sham-operated control group were inserted the fishing thread 1cm, and the others were identical with those in ischemia-reperfusion model group. At 3h, 24h, 72h after reperfusion, the neurophysical behaviours were accessed by ZeaLonga neurophysical impairment marks in ischemia-reperfusion model group and eye-acupuncture group. The method of ELISA was taken to detect the change of serum TNF-α levels in rats after the eye-acupuncture therapy. Results Compared with the ischemia-reperfusion model group, the neurologic impairment score of the eye-acupuncture group decreased obviously; The levels of serum TNF-αin ischemia-reperfusion model group at 3 h, 24 h, 72 h respectively were(76.803±18.325)pg/ml、(85.511±13.334)pg/ml、(86.831±9.232)pg/ml. The level of serum TNF-α in normal group was(24.304±6.511)pg/ml. The level of serum TNF-α in Sham-operated control group at 3 h, 24 h, 72 h respectively were(24.928±3.792)pg/ml,(27.533±5.362)pg/ml,(29.366±5.874)pg/ml. Ischemia-reperfusion model group compare with normal group and sham-operated control group, the difference were significant(P＜0.01). The levels of serum TNF-α in rats after the eye-acupuncture therapy at 3 h, 24 h, 72 h respectively were(40.185±3.335)pg/ml, (48.523±7.687)pg/ml, (51.611± 6.403)pg/ml. Compared with ischemia-reperfusion model group, the levels of serum TNF-α were strongly reduced(P＜0.01). Conclusion The eye-acupuncture therapy could play a role in improving cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury evidently and the mechanism was related to its reducing serum TNF-α levels.

Objective To investigate the influence of dexmedetomidine on expressions of protein kinase c (PKC)γ, cal?cium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase (CaMK)Ⅱαand pCaMKⅡαin spinal cord in rats with incisional pain (IP) and remifentanil-induced hyperalgesia. Methods Forty male Sprague-Dawley rats, aged 2-3 months, weighing 240-260 g, were randomly divided into 5 groups (n=8 each):blank control group (group C), remifentanil+incisional pain group (group R+I), dexmedetomidine + remifentanil + incisional pain group (group D+R+I), dexmedetomidine + remifentanil + incisional pain+phorbol myristate acetate+DMSO group (group D+R+I+P+DMSO) and dexmedetomidine+remifentanil+incisional pain+DMSO group (group D+R+I+DMSO). The incisional pain rat model was established by a plantar incision in left hind paw. Remifentanil was infused at a rate of 1.2μg·kg-1·min-1 for 90 min via the caudal vein. Dexmedetomidine was adminis?tered subcutaneously at a dose of 50μg/kg at 30 min before plantar incision. Phorbol myristate acetate and DMSO were intra?thecally injected at a dose of 10 μL. Paw withdrawal latency (PWL) to thermal stimulation and paw withdrawal threshold (PWT) to von Frey hair stimulation were measured 24 h before remifentanil infusion (T0) and at 2, 6, 24 and 48 h (T1-4) after intraveonus remifentanil injection. The rats were sacrificed after the last behavioral test and the L 4-6 segment of spinal cord was removed to determine the expressions of PKCγ, CaMKⅡαand pCaMKⅡαin spinal cord by Western blot analysis. Re? sults Compared with group C, the value of PWL was significantly shortened and PWT was significantly decreased except T0, and the expressions of PKCγ, CaMKⅡαand pCaMKⅡαwere up-regulated in other groups. Compared with group R+I, the value of PWL was significantly prolonged and PWT was significantly increased, the expressions of PKCγ, CaMKⅡαand pCaMKⅡαwere down-regulated in group D+R+I and group D+R+I+DMSO. Compared with group D+R+I, the value of PWL was significantly shortened and PWT was significantly decreased, the expressions of PKCγ, CaMKⅡαand pCaMKⅡαwere up-regulated in group D+R+I+P+DMSO. Compared with group D+R+I+P+DMSO, the value of PWL was significantly prolonged and PWT was significantly increased, the expressions of PKCγ, CaMKⅡαand pCaMKⅡαwere down-regulated in group D+R+I+DMSO. Conclusion Dexmedetomidine can reduce the expressions of PKCγ, CaMKⅡαand pCaMKⅡαin spinal cord in rats with IP and hyperalgesia induced by remifentanil.

Objective To observe the effects of eye acupuncture and body acupuncture on tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) expression in the cerebral cortex of rats after ischemia-reperfusion injury,in order to investigate the differences in therapeutic function between eye acupuncture and body acupuncture against acute cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. Method 48 Rats established by suture method were randomly divided into control group,sham operation group,model group,eye-acupuncture in point area group,eye-acupuncture outside point area group and body acupuncture group. After reperfusion 24 h,the neurophysical behaviours were accessed by ZeaLonga neurophysical impairment marks;the levels of plasma TNF-αwere determined by ELISA method;the expression of ischemic cerebral cortex TNF-αmRNA was measured by RT-PCR method;the expression of ischemic cerebral cortex TNF-αprotein was detected by western blot. Results After reperfusion 24 h,compared with control group,neurologic impairment marks of eye-acupuncture therapy in point area group and body acupuncture group both decreased obviously (P<0.01),however there were no significant differences between the eye-acupuncture in point area group and body acupuncture group;the levels of plasma TNF-αin rat cerebral cortex after the eye acupuncture therapy and body acupuncture therapy were obviously decreased (P<0.01),however there were no significant differences between the eye-acupuncture in point area group and body acupuncture group; the expressions of TNF-α mRNA and protein in rat cerebral cortex after the eye acupuncture therapy and body acupuncture therapy were also obviously down-regulated (P<0.01),however there were no significant differences between the eye-acupuncture in point area group and body acupuncture group.Conclusion The eye and body acupuncture therapy show the same effects on treating cerebral ischemia reperfusion. The mechanisms of these two therapies may be related to up regulating TNF-αexpression in rat cerebral cortex with ischemia-reperfusion injury.
