Deconstruction of lignocellulosic plant cell walls to fermentable sugars by biochemical means is impeded by several poorly understood ultrastructural and chemical barriers. Pretreatment is an essential step by altering the morphological and compositional characteristics of biomass to enhance the sugar release during enzymatic hydrolysis. Therefore, getting insight into this field is necessary to improve the conversion of biomass into biofuels. In this review, we highlight our recent understanding on the impact of various promising pretreatments on biomass, with emphasis on the topochemical and ultrastructural changes of plant cell walls that are related to the reduction of recalcitrance and the consequence of saccharification. It will lend support to the scientific research and development with respect to biomass conversion.

Objective:To study the clinical application of laparoscopic combined with multi-video debridement in treatment of complicated infectious pancreatic necrosis (CIPN).Methods:The clinical data of 34 patients with CIPN who were treated at the Department of General Surgery, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University from August 2017 to December 2019 were retrospectively studied. Based on the different video methods used, these patients were divided into 3 groups: the laparoscopic combined with intraoperative ultrasound group, the laparoscopic combined with choledochoscopy group and the laparoscopic group. The number of operations, operation time, blood loss, postoperative complication rates, mortality rates and total length of hospital stay were compared. Results:There were 13 patients in the laparoscopic combined with intraoperative ultrasound group, with age of (56.4±13.4) years. There were 7 patients in the laparoscopic combined with choledochoscopy group, with age of (48.0±8.4) years. There were 14 patients in the laparoscopic group with age of (51.4±15.6) years. The number of operations of the laparoscopic combined with intraoperative ultrasound group, the laparoscopic combined with choledochoscopy group and the laparoscopic group were (2.2±1.1), (1.6±0.8), (2.9±1.4), respectively. The number of operations of the laparoscopic combined with choledochoscopy group were significantly less than that of the laparoscopic group ( P<0.05), but there were no significant differences among the other groups ( P>0.05). The operation time of the laparoscopic combined with intraoperative ultrasound group, the laparoscopic combined with choledochoscopy group and the laparoscopic group were (70.5±22.9) min, (65.7±19.9) min, (51.5±15.4) min, respectively. The operation time of the laparoscopic combined with intraoperative ultrasound group was significantly longer than that of the laparoscopic group ( P<0.05), but there were no significant differences among the other groups ( P>0.05). There were no differences in blood loss, postoperative complication rate, mortality rates and total lengths of hospital stay among the three groups ( P>0.05). Conclusion:Laparoscopic combined with multi-video debridement after making full use of the advantages of each of the video methods, can be used to improve treatment outcomes of patients with CIPN.

Objectives:The purpose of this study is to provide a HLA B locus genotyping method which is expected to compensate the unsatisfactory serology B locus typing and to explore the distribution of B22 subtypes. Methods:Taking standard cell lines provided by the XIIth International HLA Workshop as reference, the authors established the PCR SSP method for HLA B genotyping.By this method, the HLA B alleles of leukemia patients were typed and 57 individuals previously identified as HLA B22 by serologic typing were genotyped. Results:The results of B locus genotyping of 104 cell lines by PCR SSP and that of reported were completely concordant .Unambiguous results of 17 leukemia patients and their relations were gotten except one discordant from serology which was thought as mistaken serotyping .Out of 57 samples ,55 were confirmed to bear B54 or B55 or B56 allele, respectively ,with B54 being the most common allelic form, and another showed a unique amplifying pattern which was different from any known HLA B22 alleles so far reported, suggesting a new allele or "mismatched ”DNA double strands which needed further study .Conclusions:PCR SSP was proven to be a practical genotyping method for B locus because of its simplicity, rapidity ,accuracy and unvariability with changes of health.

BACKGROUND: With the prevalence of total knee arthroplasty, periprosthetic joint infection as a serious complication has been an issue of concern.OBJECTIVE: To summarize the advances in the diagnosis and treatment of infection after total knee arthroplasty.METHODS: The first author searched the PubMed and CNKI databases for the literatures related to the diagnosis and treatment of infection after total knee arthroplasty using the keywords of total knee arthroplasty, infection in English and Chinese, respectively. The repetitive articles were excluded, and the risk factors, diagnosis, classification and treatment of infection after total knee arthroplasty were summarized.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) The infection after artificial knee replacement is closely related to the patient's preoperative condition, operation skills and postoperative status. (2) Diagnosis of infection is based on the detailed understanding of the patients' situation and complete auxiliary examinations. (3) The treatment methods include antibiotics, debridement and retention, reversion, arthrodesis, as well as amputation. (4) Periprosthetic infection is a serious complication after total knee arthroplasty, and early diagnosis and treatment are critical. Furthermore, choosing an appropriate individualized treatment scheme for different patients is important.

Objective To investigate the possibility of utilizing the mixed bacteria liquid and the Escherichia coli ( E.coli) liquid to establish the chronic salpingitis model of New Zealand rabbits, respectively. Methods Taken as the study object, the un-pregnant New Zealand rabbits (4~5 years old) were randomly divided into three groups: the normal group, the mixed bacteria experimental group and the E.coli experimental group. The trans-vaginal intrauterine intubation operation was performed for the injection of the mixed bacteria liquid and the E.coli liquid.Visual observation was to evaluate the gross pathological changes of the salpingitis and the pelvic cavity.HE staining and the light microscope were used to observe the micro-pathological changes of salpingitis. Results On the 15th day after modeling, increased pelvic effusion, dense peritoneal adhesion, interstitial hyperplasia and infiltration of lymphocytes were observed in both experimental groups. Conclusion Through the trans-vaginal intrauterine intubation operation, the chronic salpingitis model of New Zealand rabbits could be successfully established either by using the mixed bacteria liquid or by using the E.coli liquid.

Thyroid emergency is a rare but potent ially life-threatening condition if not recognized early and managed properly. It is usually due to a severe exacerbation of a preexisting thyrotoxicosis, which later leads to decompensation in different organ systems. The treatment of thyroid emergency remains challenging even with the armamentarium of modern intensive care technologies, especially in patients with cardiac failure and major organ dysfunction.[1–3] Herein, the authors described a case of thyroid emergency with cardiac arrest (CA) supported by extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
