The shortage of human hearts has brought the current research focus on finding an animal source as substitute hearts. The immunological barriers to cardiac xenotransplantation are now more clearly defined, allowing retrospective interpretation of past clinical experience in humans.Due to physiological compatibilities as well as ethical and infectious considerations, pigs have now emerged as the most likely source of future xenografts. With the introduction of transgenic pigs expressing human complement regulatory proteins and new immunosuppressive strategies have shown early promise in the laboratory, cardiac xenotransplantation has been the social focus. This article explores ethical issues that surround developments in this field.

Objective To investigate the relationship between diameter of early gastric cancer as well as lymph node metastasis and expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and Matrix metalloproteinases-7(MMP-7)in gastric cancer. Method VEGF and MMP-7 expressions of gastric cancer tissue in 55 cases were examined by immumohistochemical assay. The diagnosis was confirmed by mucous stain and pathology. Results The level of VEGF and MMP-7 expression in group of early gastric cancer with diameter ≤ 10 mm was significantly lower than that of diameter ≥ 10 mm and ≤ 20 mm (P0.05). Conclusion It is significant that relation of the diameter of early gastric cancer with VEGF and MMP-7 expression, the cases of strongly positive over-expression of both VEGF and MMP-7 in tissue of patients with early gastric cancer are accompanied by more likelihood of lymph node metastasis.

Objective:To investigate the feasibility and safety of a new method of natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery(NOTES) -totally transtracheal endoscopic thyroidectomy(TTET) .Methods:Three miniature swines and 6 beagle dogs were underwent TTET.Under general anesthesia, special designed endotracheal tube with 2-channel was used and endoscope and instruments were inserted through the respective channel.Incision of tracheal anterior wall was accomplished and partial or subtotal thyroidectomy was performed. Finally, the defects in the trachea were sutured with ENDO STITCH instrument. Results:Partial thyroidectomy was successfully accomplished on 3 pigs and subtotal thyroidectomy was done on 6 dogs.No serious complications such as anoxia, asphyxia, airway obstruction and death occurred during the operation.Animals were sacrificed 2h after the procedure and incision of trachea was found to be closely sutured. There were no subcutaneous emphysema and haematoma formation. Conclusion:Preliminary experimental results showed the feasibility and safety of TTET.Transtracheal access maintains the integrity of cervical tissues and achieves an optimal cosmetic outcome.TTET may open up a new field of NOTES on thyroid surgery.

Objective:To detect the levels of serum IgM and IgG antibodies against 2019-nCoV in 79 patients with COVID-19 for understanding their variation patterns in vivo. Methods:Chemiluminescence immunoassay was used to detect the levels of 2019-nCoV-specific IgM and IgG antibodies in 167 serum samples collected at different periods (≤10 d, 10<~20 d, 20<~30 d、>30 d) after disease onset from 79 clinically confirmed COVID-19 patients in Hangzhou Xixi Hospital. The results were statistically analyzed together with clinical data. Results:The average levels of IgM and IgG antibodies in severe and common cases were higher than those in mild cases [IgM: 21.77 (10.18-128.65) and 13.13 (6.08-35.14) vs 3.01(1.69-8.69), χ 2=27.442, P<0.01; IgG: (124.22±36.79) and (120.04±63.25) vs (52.31±53.68), F/χ 2=27.295, P<0.01]. The positive rates of IgM and IgG antibodies in severe and common cases were also higher than those in mild cases after recovery ( P<0.01). The levels of IgM and IgG antibodies were affected by the time of detection. The level of IgM antibody detected during 10<~20 d of the disease onset was significantly higher than that within 10 d of the disease onset ( P<0.05). The level of IgG antibody detected after 10 d of the disease onset was significantly higher than that within 10 d of the disease onset ( P<0.01). Conclusions:Higher levels of IgM and IgG antibodies were detected in patients with severe COVID-19. A significant correlation was found between the levels of IgM and IgG antibodies and the time of detection.

OBJECTIVETo reveal the influence of harvest season and tree age on the content of taxol and 10-DAB III, and provide the basis for the harvest time of Taxus madia.
METHODBranches and leaves of the labeled 25 three-year-old plants and 25 five-year-old plants were collected every two months from March 26,2009 to January 26, 2010. Taxol and 10-DAB III content of different age and growth season of Taxus in branches were determined by HPLC.
RESULTTaxol and 10-DAB III content were significantly different in different harvesting age. The content of five-year-old plants was significantly higher than that of three-year-old plants. Taxol and 10-DAB III contents were significantly different in different harvesting season, and the highest content of taxol and 10-DAB III was 0.56, 0.32 mg x g(-1), respectively, in May.
CONCLUSIONThe May is the suitable harvest season for T. madia, but the suitable harvest age need further study which according to the main active component and biomass accumulation.

BACKGROUNDDue to racial differences in the morphology of the knee joint and due to most prostheses available in the market being designed using measurements from Caucasians, the objective of this study was to provide the morphometric data of the patella for the southern Chinese population for total knee arthroplasty (TKA), patellar resurfacing, and prostheses design.
METHODSThe CT slices of the knee joint were obtained from both knees of 40 Chinese volunteers (20 females, 20 males, and age from 20-25 years) by performing a computer tomographic scan. A 3D model was reconstructed by Mimics software based on the computed tomography images. Six metrical characteristics were measured by digital ruler. Statistical analysis was performed with the SPSS statistical program.
RESULTSThe mean, standard deviation and P values of measurements and ratios were calculated using SPSS. All dimensions showed a significant gender difference with P < 0.05, but the six variables of the left and right knees had no statistical significance with P > 0.05. In addition, we studied the relationship between six couples (H-W, H-T, H-HAF, W-T, W-HAF, T-HAF) of the four variables (H: height, W: width, T: thickness and HAF: height of articulating facet) that were measured, which showed a significant correlation.
CONCLUSIONSExamination of the southern Chinese population revealed that males have larger patellae than women. In both genders, comparing data between left and right knees shows no statistically significant difference. Compared with Westerners in previous studies, the patella in our study was thin and small. There was a good linear regression correlation between measurements of the patella. The indirect measurement method on 3D models makes it easy to obtain anatomical data, and the results can provide a region and gender specific database for morphometric measurements of the patella, and can be helpful for designing implants suited for southern Chinese patients.
