The serum levels of visceral adipose tissue-derived serine protease inhibitor (vaspin)were measured in 65 elderly type 2 diabetic patients with carotid atherosclerosis( T2DM + CA group), 63 elderly type 2 diabetic patients without carotid atherosclerosis (T2DM group ) and 55 normal elderly individuals( NC group)by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The results showed that the serum vaspin levels in T2DM + CA group were significantly lower than those in T2DM group[(0. 23 ± 0. 13 ) μg/L vs.(0. 41±0. 16)μg/L, P ＜0. 01]. The serum vaspin levels in T2DM + CA group and T2DM group were significantly lower than those in NC group respectively[(0. 63 ± 0. 11 ) μg/L, P ＜ 0. 01 and P ＜ 0. 05].Logistic regression analysis showed that high sensitivety C-reactive protein and Homeostasis Model Assessment insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR) were negatively correlated with serum vaspin levels,which indicates that lower serum vaspin levels might be associated with the pathogenesis of carotid atherosclerosis in elderly type 2 diabetic patients.

Objective The empirical validity of the National Medical Licensing Examination (NMLE) has rarely been studied. This is one of the first studies comparing NMLE and annual assess-ment scores. This study provided the criterion-related validity evidence for the NMLE. The NMLE can be used to test the abilities and skills of physicians. Method We evaluated the test 163 residents in 12 medical school-affiliated hospitals who had finished their first year of tralning and had taken the NMLE and an annual skills assessment. We used Pearson correlations to estimate the relationship be-tween NMLE scores and annual assessment scores. Results A total of 163 residents met inclusion requirements. Correlations between NMLE scores and annual assessment scores ranged from 0.300 to 0.843. Conclusions The criterion-related validity of NMLE was high, so it can be use to evaluate the residents clinical competence indeed.

Objective To investigate clinical biologic characteristics and factors that impact prognosis of patients with follicular thyroid carcinoma(FTC).Method Clinical data of 105 FTC patients treated surgically in the Department of Head& Neck,Tianjin Cancer Hospital from 1970 to 1990 was analyzed retrospectively.Results The overall 5-year,10-year and 15-year survival rates of these patients were 85.3％,76.7％ and 72.9％ respectively.The overall 15-year survival rates of patients ≥45 years and those ＜ 45 years were 45.9％,89.8％ respectively.The overall 15-year survival rates of patients with unilateral and bilateral carcinoma was 50.0％,76.2％ respectively.The overall 15-year survival rates of patients with neck lymph node metastasis and without were 54.2％,79.2％ respectively.The overall 15-year survival rates of patients at stage Ⅰ,stage Ⅱ,stageⅢ and stageⅣ were 89.3％,70.0％,45.5％ and 35.3％respectively.During the follow-up period,11 patients were diagnosed with distant metastasis from 1 year to 33 years after surgical treatment and 9 died of cancer within 5 years after diagnosis.Seventeen patients had local recurrence from 3 months to 34 years after surgery and 10 of these patients died of local recurrence.Conclusions The factors influencing prognosis of patients with FTC were age,clinical stage,bilateral carcinoma and neck lymph node metastasis,therefore early treatment and close following-up are essential to improve the prognosis of patients with FTC.

Epithelial architecture is formed in tissues and organs when groups of epithelial cells are organized into polarized structures.The epithelial function as well as signaling across the epithelial layer is organized by polarity proteins.Epithelial polarity complexes form and regulate epithelial integrity.Polarity proteins establish and maintain cell polarity,regulate tight junctions and adherens junctions.Polarity proteins act as neoplasms suppressors in mammals and interact with oncogenes,disrupt cell polarity,induce tumorigenesis.Therefore,polarity mechanisms of epithelial cell could therapeutic targets for clinical therapy.

Objectives To investigate the clinical features of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) in children from Shen-zhen. Methods The clinical manifestations, results of electrophysiological tests and prognosis of 28 GBS patients from July 2002 to July 2012 were retrospectively analysed. Results Of 28 children, 16(57.1%) had preceding acute upper respiratory infection for 3-14 days but no patient had acute gastroenteritis. One had received HBV vaccination in 2 weeks before the onset of GBS. The peak season for GBS is spring. According to the clinical presentations and the neurophysiological results 17 patients had demyelinating neuropathy, 5 acute motor axonal neuropathy, 2 acute motor sensory axonal neuropathy, 3 Miller-fisher syndrome, and 1 polyneuritis cranialis. 14 (50.0%) patients suffered from pain in limbs which is the most nota-ble symptom in the early stage. Intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) and steroids were given during the acute phases in the majority of the patients, and assisted ventilation was performed in 2 patients due to respiratory muscle paralysis. No diffe-rence was found in Hughes scores, average hospitalization durations, and the prognosis between patients with GBS variants patients and patients with classic GBS. Conclusions Children with GBS in Shenzhen area have different clinical features.

Objective:To observe the change of BDNF level expression in experimental in hippocampal and habenular nucles in experimental depression rats.Methods:The depression model of rats was established by chronic unpredictable mild stress. Openfield test was performed to detect the behavior of rats. Immunohistochemistry was used to observe the changes of BDNF level.Results:Compared to the control group,the number of depressed animals was much less than that of normal animals.Conclusion:The level of BDNF decrease significantly in experimental depressive model of rats.
