The ?-radioactive seed brachytherapy source has been widely employed in the implantation therapy for the prostatic carcinoma and the ophthalmic lesions. In this study the dosimetric parameters for characterization of a low-energy interstitial brachytherapy source 125I were calculated according to dose calculation formalism recommended by AAPM TG-43U1.For data processing,a 0.28 cm active length was used for the geometry function. The dosimetry parameter air-Kerma strength, dose rate constant, radial dose function and anisotropy function were estimated by means of the EGS5 Monte Carlo code. The results obtained from this study are in good agreement with the corresponding values recommended by TG-43U1 and with the data reported by Dolan,et al.

Objective To analyze the clinical features and factors associated with knee osteonecrosis in patients with systemic lnpus erythematosus (SLE).Methods Medical charts of Peking Union Medical College Hospital from 2000 to 2013 were reviewed to identify patients who were diagnosed as SLE with kuee osteonecrosis.Controls were selected and matched to the cases by age and sex.The clinical and laboratory variables were compared between SLE patients who were with and without knee osteonecrosis.Numerical data and categorical data comparisons were analyzed using t-test,x2-test,respectively.Results Sixteen patients developed knee osteonecrosis that constituted 0.37% of all the 4 301 hospitalized SLE patients during the same period.Fifteen patients were female, who developed knee osteonecrosis with an average age of 36 years (range:17-67 years). The mean duratiou of SLE before the diagnosis of knee osteonecrosis was 64±40 months (range:16-120 months). The interval from onset of symptoms to diagnosis was 0.5 to 24 months. The distal end of femur was involved in all 16 patients, while the proximal tibia necrosis also occurred in 8 patients. The detection rate of knee osteonecrosis by MRI was 100%,while it was only 19% by plain radiography. The incidence of skin vasculitis, myositis, osteoporosis, hyperlipidemia, hypoalbuminemia and elevated serum immunoglobin G levels were significantly higher in SLE patients with knee osteonecrosis than in controls (P<0.05).In addition, the use of anti-malarials was significantly lower in SLE patients with knee osteonecrosis than in controls (P<0.05).Conclusion The knee osteonecrosis in SLE patients is affected by multifactors. The risk factors include skin vasculitis, myositis osteoporosis, hyperlipidemia, hypoalbuminemia and the elevated immunoglobin G level. The use of antimalarial drugs in SLE patients may protect against knee osteonecrosis development.Knee osteonecrosis coull be diagnosed early by MRI.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate surgical strategy and clinical outcomes for the treatment of thoracolumbar metastatic tumor.
METHODSFrom January 2009 to December 2010,42 patients with thoracolumbar metastatic tumor were treated surgically. Among the patients, 30 patients were male, and 12 patients were female, ranging in age from 28 to 76 years old, with an average age of 56.8 years old. Twenty-five patients had metastatic tumor in thoracic vertebraes, and 17 patients had metastatic tumor in lumbar vertebraes. Thirty-four patients had metastatic tumor in 1 segment, 6 patients had metastatic tumor in 2 segments and 2 patients had metastatic tumor in 3 segments. Two patients had no symptoms and 40 patients had back or leg pain. Eighteen patients had neurologic deficits, and 5 patients had injuries of A degree, 3 patients had injuries of B degree, 4 patients had injuries of C degree, 6 patients had injuries of D degree according to ASIA grading system. The operation goal was made according to Tomita evaluation. The surgical procedures included pallative decompression, tumor curettage and total vertebrectomy, which were decided based on Tomita classification. The pain, spinal cord function, part control of tumor, survival rate and conditions of internal fixation were evaluated at 1 week, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and 2 years after operation.
RESULTSOne patient died in the operation. Pain relief was obtained in 38 patients after operation. Among 18 patients suffering from spinal cord compromise, 17 patients improved 1 to 4 grades after surgery according to the ASIA grading system. All the patients were followed up and the duration ranged from 24 to 48 months, with a mean time of 34.2 months. Five patients got recurrence. The postoperative survival rates at 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and 2 years were 95.2%, 85.7%, 58.2%, 37.6% respectively.
CONCLUSIONAccording to Tomita system, the different surgical treatments can be selected for patients with spinal metastatic tumors, which can relieve pain, improve the neurological status and spine stabilization, maintain local control, improve quality of life.

AIM: To analyze the pathogenic bacteria and drug sensitivity in cases of canalicular inflammation.
●METHODS: Lacrimal sac secretion from 57 cases ( 57 eyes) with canalicular inflammation. used to do bacterial cultures and drug sensitivity tests. Grind open the sulfur particles from canaliculus for bacterial smear.
●RESULTS:After squeeze canalicular, there are 56 sulfur granules from 57 patients. All of the Sulfur particles smears were found in actinomycetes. A total of 55 from 57 cases of lacrimal secretions for bacterial culture were positive, and 63 strains were cultured. The main pathogen are Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus viridans and pneumococcus. Drug susceptibility test results showed that:rifampicin, cefoxitin, chloramphenicol, and mezlocillin are sensitivity.
●CONCLUSION:Actinomycetes were the main pathogens to canalicular inflammation, and most of the presence of co- infection with other bacteria. Rifampin, cefoxitin, chloramphenicol, and mezlocillin are sensitivity canalicular inflammation.
