Objective To study the values of quantitative assessment of extraocular muscles in diagnosing the thyroid associated ophthalmopathy(TAO).Methods The maximum section area, short and long diameters of extraocular muscles on orbital coronal CT were measured and the value of R was calculated in 50 healthy persons and 50 patients with TAO.Results The maximum section areas of 228 extraocular muscles in 50 patients with TAO increased,of them, inferior rectus(30.3%) and mediate rectus muscle(23.2%) were common, followed by superior rectus, lateral rectus and superior oblique muscle.Their maximum section areas(70.21 mm2,56.93 mm2,64.06 mm2,58.51 mm2,20.65 mm2,respectively) and the values of R(0.61,0.55,0.61,0.50,0.52,respectively) were larger than that in healthy group(27.72 mm2,27.07 mm2,26.93 mm2,36.74 mm2,9.42 mm2 respectively in maximum section areas) and(0.41,0.35,0.60,0.34,0.44 in the values of R,respectively). There were statistical significant differents between them. Conclusion The quantitative coronal CT measurement, especially the values of R can assess enlargement of extraocular muscles accurately, which may be helpful in diagnosis of TAO.

Objective To investigate the occurrence, prevention and management of surgical complication of contralateral C7 nerve root transfer through the prespinal route to repair the brachial plexus nerve root avulsion injury. Methods From Feb. 2002 to Aug. 2009, 425 patients were performed the contralateral C7 nerve root transfer through the prespinal route with this procedure. There were 379 males and 46 females, with the average age of 21 years (range, 3 months to 56 years). The contralateral C7 nerve root was sectioned at the distal of the middle trunk in 15 cases, at the distal of the anterior and posterior division in 410 patients. The surgical complications related to the health C7 nerve root section and the make of tunnel through the prespinal route and others were analyzed retrospectively. Results The incidence rate of complication was 5.2%(22/425). The surgical complications related to the make of prespinal route including 2 cases had the severe bleeding during the operation because of vertebral artery injury; transitory laryrecurrent nerve palsy occurred in 5 cases, the pain and numbness occurred on the donor upper limber in 4 cases when the patients swallowed. The complications related to the section of contralateral C7 nerve root including the extension of finger and thumb was dysfunction in 5 patients after the operation, 3 cases had the severely pain on the health upper limber, Horner's sign occurred on donor side in 2 children suffered birth palsy, and C6 nerve root was mistaken sectioned as C7 in 1 case. Other serious perioperative complication including the thromboses of the cerebral trunk occurred in 1 case 42 hours postoperative and died in hospital 38 days after the operation. Conclusion The procedure of contralateral C7 nerve root transfer through the prespinal route is safe. The effective method to prevent this complication occurrence is to expose the origin segment of vertebral artery when making prespinal route.

Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica 2022;57(2):296-302
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) is defined as the electron reduction product of oxygen with high reactivity which can maintain normal physiological functions and redox homeostasis. The tumor microenvironment is in a state of oxidative stress. ROS can affect multiple processes of tumor immune response by modulating the phenotype and functions of tumor cells and immune cells. With the rapid development of immunology, ROS-based tumor immunomodulation has been widely concerned and studied. In this review, the mechanism of ROS participating in tumor immune response is elaborated. Meanwhile, the research process and application of ROS in tumor immunomodulation in recent years are reviewed and analyzed.

Objective To observe the protective effect of progesterone on brain edema in newborn rats with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy(HIE).Methods Fifty-two 7-day-old neonatal rats were randomly divided into 5 groups:normol control group(group A),hypoxic-ischemic group (group B) and pretreatment groups(group C,D and E).Rats were subjected to left common carotid artery ligation, then were exposed to 8% oxygen and 92% nitrogen for 2.5 hours to establish HIE model.Progesterone was injected intraperitoneally into the groups C,D and E rats respectively at 30 minutes before hypoxia. All rats were killed at the 24 hours after operations, then the contents of water, sodium, potassium were mensurated. Results The contentation of water in group B was higher than that in group A,the contentation of water, sodium in groups C,D and E were significantly lower compared with group B, but the contents potassium were no difference between group C,E and B. Conclusion Progesterone exerts a prominent preventive and protetive effects on the hypoxic ischemic brain edema in newborn rats.

Objective To investigate the diagnostic significance of endoscopic findings in Henoch-Schonlein purpura(HSP),especially when abdominal pain preceded the cutaneous lesions. Methods The clinical data and gastroscopic findings in 37 cases of children with HSP were studied and analysed retrospectively in order to detect the pathological changes in the stomach and duodenum mucosa. The biopsy was taken in the pathological changeing place, and the relationship between clinical and endoscopic findings was analyzed. Results Detection rate of the pathological changes in the stomach and duodenum mucosa was 62.2%,31.3% of which experienced only cutaneous lesions,100% of which presented the acute abdominal pain.Three patients were not checked up the pathological changes.Of them,1 had arthritis,2 had Henoch-Schonlein nephritis.Characteristically endoscopic findings in the stomach and duodenum mucosa were found. The endoscopic findings included anabrosis, hyperemia, edema and hemorrhage. Conclusions Detection rate of the pathological changes in the stomach and duodenum mucosa is higher.Endoscopy is very helpful to the early diagnosis of HSP in children, especially abdominal pain presented firstly.

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of DZWJY-1 type electronic moxibustion apparatus and traditional moxibustion in treating knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Methods: A total of 76 eligible patients were randomized into an electronic moxibustion apparatus group and a traditional moxibustion group, with 38 cases in each group. The electronic moxibustion apparatus group was intervened by DZWJY-1 type electronic moxibustion apparatus, and the traditional moxibustion group received moxa stick moxibustion for treatment. Neixiyan (EX-LE 4), Dubi (ST 35), Xuehai (SP 10) and Liangqiu (ST 34) were selected for both groups and the treatment was conducted 3 times a week for a total of 12 times. The visual analog scale (VAS) and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities osteoarthritis index (WOMAC) scores were observed before treatment and after 6 and 12 sessions of treatment, respectively. Results: There were 4 dropout cases in the traditional moxibustion group. Therefore, this trial had 72 valid cases, including 38 cases in the electronic moxibustion apparatus group and 34 cases in the traditional moxibustion group, the differences in the baseline data between the two groups were statistically insignificant (P>0.05). After 6 and 12 sessions of treatment, the VAS scores decreased significantly with the increase of treatment sessions in both groups (all P<0.01), and the betweengroup differences were statistically insignificant at the same time points (both P>0.05). The pain intensity was evaluated using the weighted value of VAS score. The markedly effective rate was 47.4% and the total effective rate was 89.5% in the electronic moxibustion apparatus group, versus 50.0% and 94.1% in the traditional moxibustion group, and the betweengroup differences were statistically insignificant (both P>0.05). After 6 and 12 sessions of treatment, the total score and the component scores including pain, stiffness and difficulty moving in the WOMAC decreased significantly with the increase of treatment sessions in both groups (all P<0.01), and the between-group differences were statistically insignificant (all P>0.05). Conclusion: Electronic moxibustion apparatus and traditional moxibustion both are effective in reducing joint pain and improving joint function in KOA patients, and they are equivalent comparing the clinical efficacy.
