Wuyi is one of the Chinese medicine recorded in Shennong's Herbal Classic and many other herbal books during the long history period. Up to now, Wuyi is still an important medicine used for insecticidal and removing food retention. Recent researches indicated that Wuyi also had the function of anti-malaria and treating herpetic simplex keratitis. Therefore, Wuyi had notable value on clinic and development of new medicine. The herbalogical textual research on Wuyi was conducted through investigation of the literature of materia medica during the long historical period from Han Dynasty. It was demonstrated by this work that the original plants of Wuyi include Ulmus macrocarpa Hance and Hemiptelea davidii (Hance) Planch, in which, U. macrocarpa was the quality specie. U. pumila was the false specie which cause confusing. The medicine Wuyi was the processed product made from the nutlet of the plants through fermentation with other additive agents.

Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University(Medical Science) 2009;29(6):693-697
Objective To investigate the expression of homeobox gene MSX-2 during cranial suture fusion of SD rats and discuss its significance. Methods SD rats aged 1, 2, 5, 8, 12, 15, 18, 22, 30 and 45 days were selected, and immunohistochemistry and Real-time PCR were employed to localize and quantify the expression of MSX-2 in different regions of cranial sutures. Results MSX-2 expressed in calvarial suture tissues including the extreme ends of the osteogenic fronts and the underlying dura mater. The expression of MSX-2 was low in posterior frontal suture (PF) and sagittal suture (SAG) from postnatal day 1 to day 8 before the initiation of suture fusion, while it was higher in PF than in SAG from postnatal day 12 to day 22 after the initiation of PF suture fusion. The expression of MSX-2 significantly declined in PF and was moderately higher than that in SAG from postnatal day 30 to day 45 after the initiation of suture fusion. Conclusion There is different expression of MSX-2 in PF and SAG during different suture fusion periods, which suggests the expression of MSX-2 may participate in the regulation of cranial bone development and the fusion of cranial sutures.

OBJECTIVE To explore the indication and effect of primary repair of the defects for stomal recurrence after total laryngectomy. METHODS A total of 18 cases with stomal recurrence after total laryngectomy were performed operation. The defect of hypopharynx and cervical oesophagus was repaired with free forearm flap (n=5),free jejunual interposition(n=3),pectoralis major myocutaneous flap (n=1)and pharyngogastric anastomosis(n=2).The defect of skin was repaired with pectoralis major myocutaneous flap.RESULTS All pectoralis major myocutaneous flaps were viable. Pharyngeal fistula occurred in 4 cases, one of whom had been performed free jejunual interposition,2 had been performed free forearm flap, and one with fistula bleeding had been performed pharyngogastric anastomosis. All cases could swallow after operation. During follow-up for 6 to 74 months, swallow obstruction occurred in 3 cases.CONCLUSION The methods of repair for surgical defect of stomal recurrence after total laryngectomy should depend on the bound of stomal recurrence and therapeutic procedure of primary tumor.

Abstract?AIM: To observe the clinical efficacy of intravitreal Lucentis injection combined with panretinal photocoagulation ( PPR ) and compound trabeculectomy for neovascular glaucoma ( NVG) .?METHODS:A total of 14 cases (14 eyes) with NVG were collected from January to November 2015.All cases were treated with intravitreal lucentis injection, PPR and compound trabeculectomy by turns.Intraocular pressure ( IOP) , visual acuity and the complications at pre-or post-surgery were recorded, respectively.?RESULTS: Followed up for 3-6mo, the average IOP preoperatively was significantly decreased than that detected at post-operation ( 18.00 ±6.70 vs 41.65 ± 4.07mmHg, t=11.288, P<0.05).IOP less than 21mmHg with or without the usage of anti-intraocular pressure drugs was defined as the sign of successful or effective surgery, respectively. At the ultimate follow-up, 11 cases were successful, 2 cases were effective, and the success rate was 79%, effective rate was 14%.Only 1 case was applied cyclocryotherapy due to the uncontrolled IOP. Moreover, the results of visual acuity detection demonstrated that 6 eyes got a better visual acuity, 7 eyes remained the same condition and 1 case got no light perception. Meanwhile, 13 cases showed none iris neovascularization during the follow-up; 1 case got a reappearance of iris neovascularization on the third month, which was then dissolved subjected to the intravitreal lucentis injection in combination with PPR. One case developed post -operative hyphema and absorbed after 1wk. No shallow anterior chamber and eyeball atrophy happened.?CONCLUSION:Intravitreal lucentis injection combined with PPR and compound trabeculectomy is an effective and safe therapeutic strategy for the treatment of NVG.

Chinese Archives of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery 2006;0(02):-
OBJECTIVE To analyze the incidence of anatomic variations of the temporal bone to provide valuable reference for clinical otology. METHODS Sev-enty six healthy adults (152 ears) and 66 patients(96 ears) with chronic suppurative otitis media confirmed by clinical examination underwent axial and coronal High-resolution Computed Tomography(HRCT) scan. The incidence of high jugular bulb, dehiscent jugu-lar bulb, anterior location of sigmoid sinus, low-lying middle cranial fossa, dehiscent tegmen tympani, mas-toid antrum dysplasia, aberrant internal carotid artery, and large sinus tympani were recorded. RESULTS In normal, abnormal, well and poorly pneumatized groups, the incidence of highly positioned jugular bulb on the right was higher than that on the left. The total inci-dence of high jugular bulb on the left and right was 26.2 % and 46.0 % respectively. The incidence of ante-rior location of sigmoid sinus in the abnormal group (32.3 %) was higher than that in normal group(15.8 %), which was higher in poorly pneumatized group(43.5 %) than that in well pneumatized group(11.3 %). The inci-dence of dehiscent tegmen tympani in well pneuma-tized group(18.0 %) was higher than that in poor pneu-matized group(8.7 %). There was no significant differ-ence in dehiscent jugular bulb, low-lying middle cranial fossa, mastoid antrum dysplasia, aberrant internal ca-rotid artery, and large sinus tympani between the left and right within and among groups. The incidence of these varia-tions was 2.0 %,21.8 %,1.2 %,0.4 %,0.8 %respectively. CONCLUSION HRCT can show ana-tomic variances of temporal bone clearly before opera-tion and has great clinical value for reducing the inci-dence of complications caused by middle ear operation.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2013;27(21):1187-1190
OBJECTIVE:
To analyse the risk factors involved in local failure following radiotherapy and chemotherapy to nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
METHOD:
A retrospective analysis was carried out to review the histopathological data from 308 NPC patients who recieved medical treatment between 2004 and 2006. The incidence and the risk factor for local treatment failure were evaluated in a model that included the following factors: sex, age, T and N staging, histological grade of primary tumor, presence of cervical lymph node metastasis, size and laterals of positive neck nodes, levels involved, ways of radiation and condition of concurrent chemotherapy. Univariate chi2 test and multivariate stepwise logistic regression model were used for the analysis. Statistical analysis of survival of patients with local residues and recurrence was performed using Kaplan-Meier method.
RESULT:
Ninty-three cases (30.2%) presented local residues and recurrence in 308 patients of nasopharyngeal carcinomas. In the univariate analysis, it was confirmed that the following variables correlated to local failure, i. e., T staging (P < 0.01), N staging (P < 0.01), presence of cervical lymph node metastasis (P < 0.05), size and laterals of positive neck nodes (P < 0.05, respectively). In the multivariate analysis, the most ignificant risk factors for local failure were the T staging only. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that overall survival rates of 71 NPC patients with local residues and recurrence who received re-treatment were 77.2% at 1 year, 40.4% at 3 years, 22.4% at 5 years, respectively.
CONCLUSION
T staging is the key risk factors in determining the development of local failure following radiotherapy or chemotherapy in NPC patients. Patients with primary tumor infiltrating bone have the higher risk of developing local residues and recurrence. Retreatment to the patients suffering from local failure can imrove survival rates.
