Objective To investigate the effects of two sputum aspirations on old critical patients. Methods Sixty elderly critical patients were divided into the experiment group and control group in equal number. The former group received sputum aspiration by oropharynx airpipe and the control group by oronasal airpipe. The two groups were compared in terms of sputum aspiration effect and saturation of blood oxygen.Result The observation group was significantly better than the control group in terms of sputum aspiration effect and saturation of blood oxygen(both P<0.05).Conclusion Sputum aspiration by oropharynx airpipe is effective in the aspiration of secretions from respiratory tract and the reduced effect of saturation of blood oxygen.

Objective:To analyse the clinical characteristics and to study the effects of thalidomide combined with tripterygium glycosides in the treatment of Behcet disease.Methods:50 cases of Behcet disease were analysed retrospectively.26 of them were treated by thalidomide at 35 mg combined with tripterygium glycosides at 10 mg 3 times a day.24 cases were treated by levamisole at 50 mg 3 times a day with 3-day-treatment and 11-day-interval.All the patients were treated for 2 months.Results:Middle-aged male patients with chronic onset were common, oral ulcer was the first common symptom. The disease could damage all organs, however the oral mucosa, skin, oculus, genitalia and joint were commonly involved.Reaction of needle puncture was highly specific in the diagnosis. The effective ratio of treatment was observed in 92% of the patients treated by the combination of thalidomide with tripterygium glycosides and in 67% of those by levamisole. Conclusion:The clinical manifestations of Behcet disease are complex, its diagnosis mainly depends on symptoms and signs, reaction of needle puncture is helpful in diagnosis.Thalidomide combined with tripterygium glycosides is effective in the treatment of the disease.

Objective To investigate the effect of Smo siRNA on the aggressive capability of human esophageal carcinoma EC9706 cells. Methods EC9706 cells were transfected by Smo siRNA.The expressions of Smo and Glil protein in experimental and control groups were detected with immunocytochemistry. The expressions of Smo and Gli1 mRNA in experimental and control groups were detected with in situ hybridization. The change of aggressive capability in all groups was detected by Boyden chamber in vitro. Results Compared with control group, there was a significant decrease in the protein and mRNA levels of Smo and Gli1 in every specific siRNA transfection group with three different concentration (P < 0.05).The aggressive capability of EC9706 cells was significantly weakened after the transfection (P < 0.05).Conclusions Smo siRNA can inhibit the expressions of Smo and Gli1 genes in EC9706 cells, and can also weaken the aggressive capability of EC9706 cells.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the changes of volt-ampere characteristics of Yuan-Primary acupoints in women before, during and after menstruation, and to find out the relationships between Qi-blood in human body and volt-ampere characteristics of acupoints, so as to develop a new method for quantitative analysis on changes of Qi-blood. METHODS: A high-sensitive detection system of volt-ampere characteristics of acupoint was applied to detecting the volt-ampere characteristics of Taiyuan (LU 9), Daling (PC 7) and Shenmen (HT 7) in healthy women before, during and after menstruation. RESULTS: The resistances on LU 9, PC 7 and HT 7 with some certain scan currents were quite different among the women before, during and after menstruation. For such changes, PC 7 was of the most obvious change, LU 9 was of the less and HT 7 was of the least. The total ratio of the scanning spots with significantly increasing changes of resistances on these three acupoints along with the menstrual process was 70.6%. CONCLUSION: The volt-ampere characteristics of acupoints vary with the menstrual process, which is of the acupoint specificity. The resistances on the acupoints increase with the menstrual process, and such results may be due to the blood loss during menstruation. The volt-ampere characteristics can be used as a quantitative index to study on the change of Qi and blood.

Chinese Journal of Pathophysiology 2001;17(6):527-530
AIM:To study the effect of ONOO- on the airway epithelial injury. METHODS: The mitochondrial respiration, the amount of lactate dedydrogenase (LDH) release into the cell culture medium, the levels of 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), and the cellular apoptosis were examined after exposure of cultured rat tracheal epithelial (RTE) cells to ONOO-. RESULTS: Exposure of RTE cells to 0.25, 0.5 and 1 mmol/L ONOO- caused a dose-dependent suppression of the mitochondrial respiration . ONOO- also caused a dose-dependent increase in the percentage of LDH release. Exposure of RTE cells to ONOO- resulted in an increased generation of 8-OHdG in a dose-dependent manner. ONOO- caused an increase in apoptotic percentage in RTE cells in a time-dependent manner at different concentrations. CONCLUSION: ONOO- could cause necrosis and apoptosis in cultured RTE cells. Low concentration of ONOO- caused apoptosis in a time-dependent manner. Whereas exposure to high concentration of ONOO- resulted in cell necrosis, ONOO- caused a dose-dependent increase in the percentage of LDH release. Suppression of mitochondrial respiration and oxidative DNA damage by ONOO- may be the major cause of cellular injury induced by ONOO-.

ObjectiveA survey of the status quo of community nursing health resources in Shao xing countryside was carry out in order to rationally allocate medical resource, optimize quality of medical employees and construct modern rural community nursing patterns.MethodsA survey for 19 health service organizations and 381 nurses in rural communities was carried out with questionnaires. Results There existed regional differences in medical resources. The medical resources per ten thousand people were limited, only 0.7 health education room,1.2 recovery rooms,0.4 women and children′s health center. There was 1 nurse for every 1877 rural residents. The average age of nurses was (30.84±6.88) years old.Nurses on professional health education, community arevention of diseases only accountel for 43.8%.Community nuses of different ages and with different degrees had different knowledge requirements.ConclusionsThe medical resources are limited and imbalanced. The employees are too young and they have only low level of education and are not professional enough.Rational allocation of resources, optimization of personnel structure and abundance of on-the-job training is urgently needed.

Objective To discuss the relationship between serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D[25(OH)D] level and the severity of diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods 1474 cases of type 2 diabetic patients were classified into three groups according to their severity of diabetic retinopathy, the non-diabetic retinopathy group(NDR group, n =640), the background diabetic retinopathy group(BDR group, n =494) and the proliferative diabetic retinopathy group(PDR group, n=340).640 healthy people with normal level of glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c) were selected as control group(NDM group, n=640).Disease duration, body mass index(BMI), systolic pressure, low density lipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL-C), HbA1c and 25(OH)D were detected and compared among groups. Results Disease duration and HbA1c were increasing significantly, and the levels were NDM group

In this study, three methods for identification of E.coli were compared. The conventional method was employed to select and identify the suspicious E.coli isolates from a fecal sample. PCR based ARDRA analysis was then carried out to distinguish these E.coli isolates, E.coli MG1655 and other bacterial species. All the potential E.coli isolates and E.coli MG1655 had the identical ARDRA banding pattern while the other bacterial species showed the different patterns. The result indicated that the ARDRA analysis was consistent with the traditional method for identification of E.coli and could be the practical method for distinguishing E.coli from other intestinal bacterial species. The ERIC-PCR analysis provided abundant polymorphism between different E.coli isolates, and might be a powerful approach for elucidating the genetic diversity among isolates of the same species.
