Objective To study whether Fcα/μ receptor(Fcα/μR)can mediate complement killing of human glomerular mesangial cells.Methods Fcα/μR cDNA contained plasmid,pcDNA3.1-Fcα/μR was transfected into a human glomerular mesangial cell(NHMC).Fcα/μR expression was detected by Western blot and laser scanning eonfocal microscopy.Binding of IgM-immune complexes(IgM-IC)to the Fcα/μR on cell membrane was detected by flowcytometry and laser scanning confocal microscopy.Killing of cells by complement was shown by Trypan blue exclusion assay.Results NHMC cells transfected with Fcα/μR could bind IgM and IgM-IC.After treatment with complement,added IgM-IC,the death rate of pcDNA3.1-Fcα/μR transfected cell was significant higher than the control groups of wild type cell,pcDNA3.1 transfected cell and the pcDNA3.1-Fcα/μR transfected cell without IgM-IC.Conclusion IgM-IC can bind to the Fcα/μR expressed NHMC cells and mediate complement killing of the cells.

Objective To study the biological characteristics of dendritic cells (DCs) derived from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of patients diagnosed with syphilis. Methods PBMCs were isolated from 16 patients clinically and serologically diagnosed with syphilis, and from 16 healthy human controls, then cultured with GM-CSF and IL-4. On day 10, the monocyte-derived dendritic cells (MoDCs)of the patients and controls were collected and subjected to the detection of surface molecules by flow cytometry; TpN17 was used to stimulate MoDCs from the controls, the expression of phosphorylated ERK was detected by Westem blotting 20 minutes following the stimulation. Results The positivity rate of CD80 was significantly increased in the patients with syphilis than that in the controls (51.90% vs 33.67,P ＜ 0.05), while no significant difference was observed in the expressions of CD83, CD86 or HLA-DR be tween the two groups (16.53% vs 15.99%, 66.13% vs 59.32%, 91.29% vs 90.51%, all P 0.05). The ex pressions of CD80 and CD83 on the surface of MoDCs were enhanced in a dose-dependent manner after ex-posure to TpN17. The expression of cytoplasmic phosphorylated ERK was observed in MoDC stimulated by TpN17, but not in those without the treatment. Conclusions Antigenic stimulation with Treponema pal-lidum may be a reason for phenotypic abnormality of MoDCs derived from patients with syphilis. TpN17 may stimulate the maturation of DCs through the ERK signal transduction pathway.

Objective To investigate the medical cost of 72 patients with panic disorder and efficacy of paroxetine(SSRIs)in the treatment.Methods The course,medical cost,types and times of main examination of all 72 patients were reviewed and analyzed.The effect of paroxetine on the patients was studied in terms of anxiety and depression scale.Results The 72 patients had long course,high medical cost and received many unnecessary medical examinations.Paroxerine was effective on patients with panic disorder in light of anxiety and depression scale.Con- clusion Patients with panic disorder had long course and spent much unnecessany money before final diagnosis. Paroxetine was useful and safe in the treatment of panic disorder.

Objective To observe the effects of soybean isoflavone in attenuating trans fatty acids-induced athero-sclerosis in rats .Methods The rats were randomly divided into normal diet group、trans fatty acids group、soybean isoflavone group and trans fatty acids +soybean isoflavone group .Research kit was used to test the amounts of TG , HDL,LDL and IL-6,TNF-αin rats'blood.Bovine aortic endothelial cells were cultured and divided into control group,trans fatty acids group and trans fatty acids group +soybean isoflavone group .Western blot was performed to test the NF-κB phosphorylation ,as well as to determine ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 protein contents in bovine aortic endo-thelial cells.Results Compared with normal diet group ,the amounts of TG,LDL,IL-6,TNF-αincreased evidently (P<0.05), whereas the amounts of HDL decreased evidently (P<0.05) in the rats'blood of trans fatty acids group . After the soybean isoflavone intervened ,the amounts of TG,LDL,IL-6,TNF-αall decreased (P<0.01), meanwhile the amounts of HDL increased significantly (P<0.01).Soybean isoflavone inhibited NF-κB phosphorylation induced by trans fatty acids ( P<0.01) .The high expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 induced by trans fatty acids was de-creased by soybean isoflavone when comparing with those in the control group ( P<0.01 ) .Conclusions Soybean isoflavone has a role in attenuating trans fatty acids trans fatty acids-induced atherosclerosis in rats .

Objective To explore the relationship between mathematical characteristics of cardiotocograph in electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) and umbilical blood acidosis,and help to evaluate the clinical significance of indeterminate EFM.Methods A total of 85 vaginal delivery cases (or transfer to caesarean section during labor) hospitalized in Peking University Third Hospital during February 4 to December 5,2011 was enrolled in this retrospective study.EFM monitored 0.5-1 hour before delivery was recorded and the mathematical characteristics as the baseline,deceleration area per unit time (cm2/min),deceleration duration ratio and some other variables of EFM were analyzed.All cases were divided into acidosis (n=12) and non-acidosis group (n=73) based on the umbilical blood gas results.Rank sum test or t-test were used to compare the difference on mathematical characteristics between these two groups.Results The deceleration duration ratio and deceleration area per unit time in acidosis group were 0.56±0.17 and 0.45 cm2/min (0.38-0.79 cm2/min),which were higher than those in non acidosis group [0.42±0.14 and 0.30 cm2/min (0.19-0.40 cm2/min)],the differences were statistically significant (t=2.889,Z=2.587,both P＜0.05).There were no statistically significant differences in the number of mild variable deceleration and severe deceleration per unit time between acidosis group and non acidosis group [(0.44± 0.14)/min vs (0.41±0.13)/min,t=1.318,P＞0.05; 0.033/min (0.016-0.062/min) vs 0.016/min (0.008-0.033/min),Z=-1.596,P＞0.05].Conclusions The deceleration duration ratio and deceleration area per unit time can be used to assist the interpretation of indeterminate EFM.

Objective To know the current conditions of institution set-up,personnels allocated and equipment supplied in county-,city-and country-level in endemic disease prevention and control.Methods Questionnaires,regarding institution set-up,personnels allocated and equipment supplied,was performed among staffs from administrative apartment and professional apartment.Results There were 31 institutions for endemic disease prevention and control in province level of our country(except Hainan Province),with one institution in each province.There were 308 institutions for endemic disease prevention and control in city level,and 23 cities did not have one.There were 2340 institutions for endemic disease prevention and control in county level,none in 502 counties.There were 20 provinces which had the professional crew of the endemic disease administration,but other provinces did not.The proportion of high-grade professional staff of province,city,county level was 24.84% (310/1248),17.05%(481/2821),5.31%(598/11 256)respectively.The averaged size of wdrking place at province-,city-and county-level was 2603.9,324.6,1227 m2.The averaged area of laboratory of province,city,county level was 1093.8,147.4 and 46.6 m2 respectively.The average quantity of equipments valued over ten thousand yuan at province-,city-and county-level is 15.5,2.2,0.6 respectively.Conclusions After the innovation of organizations for endemic disease prevention and control,the number of personnels devoting to this work has been curtailed,working place and equipment is insufficient,which hinders the prevention and control.

OBJECTIVETo investigate clinical effects of strategy by stages for preventing respiratory complications of patients with acute cervical spinal cord injury (ACSCI).

METHODSFrom September 2009 to May 2013,the clinical data of 91 patients with ACSCI underwent surgery were retrospectively analyzed. Among the patients, 42 patients were divided into in-stages group, including 30 males and 12 females with an average age of 50 years old (ranged 28 to 76) which were treated with strategy by stages for preventing respiratory complications; others 49 patients which were not treated with the strategy regarded as control group, including 38 males and 11 females with an average age of 47 years old (ranged 30 to 77). All of them had definite history of trauma, and were admitted to orthopaedics within 48 h after trauma. In in-stages group, respiratory muscle strength training, high-dose ambroxol using and other treatment were performed to prevent respiratory complilcations according to preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative stage. While in control group, there were no systematic and effective measures utilized. Chi-square test was used to evaluate the difference for respiratory complications rate, the rate of tracheostomy or intubation and mortality caused by the respiratory complications between two groups.

RESULTSTen patients developed with respiratory complications in in-stages group (7 patients with pneumonia, 1 with atelectasis and 2 with respiratory failure), among which 3 patients underwent tracheostomy or intubation. In control group, 24 patients developed with respiratory complilcations (15 with pneumonia,3 with atelectasis and 6 with respiratory failure), among which 11 patients underwent tracheostomy or intubation. There was significant difference between two groups (χ2 = 6.12, 4.07; P = 0.013, 0.044). Five patients died because of respiratory complications, one case were in in-stages group and 4 in control group. There was significant difference between two groups (χ2 = l.39, P = 0.238).

CONCLUSIONThe strategy by stages is an effective method for preventing respiratory complications of ACSCI and can reduce the respiratory complications rate and improve the prognosis of respiratory complications.

Objective To observe on the clinical effect and the influence of the level of plasma vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in acute leukemia before and after treatment by thalidomide combined with chemotherapy. Methods Thirty-six cases of acute leukemia patients were randomly divided into experimental group and control group by 18 cases each. Each group was treated with conventional chemotherapy in the standard-dose, meanwhile in the experimental group additional thalidomide 100 mg/day were taken orally. Before treatment and 8 weeks after treatment, plasma were collected for the detection of VEGF, VEGFR and bFGF content by double antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Results The ratio of experimental group and control group, were 88.9 % (16/18), 77.8 % (14/18)respectively and the difference was statistically significant (x2 =4.103, P ＜0.05). The level of plasma VEGF (389.78+249.94 pg/ml, 318.54±125.78 pg/ml) of experimental group and control group before treatment was statistically significant (t = 3.141, t =3.024, P ＜0.01) compared with healthy group [(132.91±26.66) pg/ml] respectively. The level of plasma VEGF of those groups after treatment [(211.74+36.72) pg/ml, (288.02±31.77) pg/ml] was statistically significant (t =2.413, t =2.324, P ＜0.05) compared with healthy group respectively. The difference of the level of plasma VEGF of experimental group and control group before treatment was not statistically significant (t =1.384, P ＞0.05). The difference of the level of plasma VEGF of experimental group and control group after treatment was statistically significant(t =2.793,P ＜0.05). The level of plasma VEGFR [(2490.75+1695.9) pg/ml, (2322.78+1105.87) pg/ml] of experimental group and control group before treatment was statistically significant (t =2.914, t =2.783, P ＜0.01) compared with healthy group [(1134.98+378.45) pg/ml] respectively. The level of plasma VEGFR of those groups after treatment [(1359.71± 390.24) pg/ml, (1753.89±337.04) pg/ml] was statistically significant(t =2.572, t =2.447, P ＜0.05) compared with healthy group respectively. The difference of the level of plasma VEGFR of experimental group and control group before treatment was not statistically significant (t =1.276, P ＞0.05). The difference of the level of plasma VEGFR of experimental group and control group after treatment was statistically significant (t = 2.486, P ＜0.05). The level of plasma bFGF [(2.43±0.27) ng/ml, (2.41±0.33) ng/ml] of experimental group and control group before treatment was statistically significant(t =4.982, t =4.171, P ＜0.05) compared with healthy group (1.83±0.44) ng/ml respectively; the level of plasma bFGF of those groups after treatment [(2.09±0.17) ng/ml,(2.11±0.31) ng/ml] was statistically significant (t =3.011, t =2.773, P ＜0.05) compared with healthy group respectively. The difference of the level of plasma bFGF of experimental group and control group before treatment was not statistically significant (t =0.953, P ＞0.05). The difference of the level of plasma bFGF of experimental group and control group after treatment was not statistically significant (t =1.282, P ＞0.05).Conclusion The remission rate could be improved by thalidomide combined with chemotherapy in acute leukemia, which could be an effective treatment by anti-angiogenesis and inhibiting the growth and infiltration of acute leukemia cells.

This was a retrospective study of dentigerous cysts in people from the Singapore-Malaysian region. The purpose of this study was to present the clinicopathologic features of dentigerous cysts in the Oriental population and to compare these data with those from other reported studies. Biopsy records from 1981 to 1993 of 119 cases of dentigerous cysts from patients in Malaysia and Singapore showed that 36.1% of patients were female and 63.9% patients were male. Among patients with cysts, 70.5% were Chinese, 23.2% were Malays, 2.7% were Indian and 3.6% were other ethnic groups. The mean age of these patients was 30.2 +/- 17.3 years with a peak incidence occurring in the second and third decades. The location of the lesions was almost equal to the maxilla (50.9%) and the mandible (49.1%). There was a marked predilection for the posterior mandible (42.7%) followed by the anterior maxilla (38.2%). Histologically, 90.8% of the cysts were lined by a non-keratinised stratified squamous epithelium. The cyst linings were mainly thin (90.0%) with 38.7% of cases having a mixed thick and thin lining. Mucous metaplasia was observed in 9 (7.6%) cases. Rushton bodies were seen in 3.4% of cases. Cholesterol clefts in the epithelial lining and lumen were found in 16.8% cases while 12.6% of cases exhibited cholesterol clefts in the cyst wall. Other cellular structures within the cyst wall were lymphocytes (66.4%), plasma cells (52.1%), Russell bodies (16.0%) and histiocytes (4.2%). Odontogenic keratocysts were observed in 5.0% of cases. One case of adenomatoid odontogenic tumour was also observed. Epithelial atypia was seen in 9.2% of cases, islands of stratified squamous epithelial cells in 8.4% of cases while one case showed a combination of these two features. In conclusion, some clinical features seen in this study are similar to that for the Caucasian population such as prevalence in male, peak incidence in the second and third decades and the predilection for the posterior mandible and anterior maxilla. Histopathologically, odontogenic keratocyst and adenomatoid odontogenic tumour were observed in dentigerous cysts.

Objective To investigate the expression of hypoxia inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) and glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1) in lung adenocarcinoma and its correlation with tumor metastasis. Methods SP immunohistochemistry was used to detect GLUT1 and HIF-1α protein expression in 125 lung adenocarcinoma, including 41 cases without metastasis, 38 cases with lymphatic metastasis and 46 cases with brain metastasis. The correlation of GLUT1 and HIF-1α in lung adenocarcinoma metastasis was analyzed by using x 2 test and Pearson correlation analysis. Results Most lung adenocarcinoma were histologically heterogeneous, which contained more than one adenocarcinoma type. 73.2 % (30/41) cases were acinar predominant adenocarcinoma in lung adenocarcinoma without metastasis; 53.6 % (15/38) cases were acinar predominant adenocarcinoma and 26.3 % (10/38) cases were solid predominant adenocarcinoma in lung adenocarcinoma with lymphatic metastasis; 47.8 % (22/46) cases were papillary predominant adenocarcinoma and 34.8 % (16/46) cases were solid predominant adenocarcinoma in lung adenocarcinoma with brain metastases. The expression level of GLUT1 and HIF-1α in lung adenocarcinoma with lymphatic metastasis group was higher than that of the group without tumor metastasis (P< 0.05); the expression of GLUT1 and HIF-1α were positively correlated (r=0.407, P=0.000). Conclusions Papillary adenocarcinoma is the most histological type in lung adenocarcinoma with brain metastasis, suggesting that papillary adenocarcinoma is more prone to brain metastasis. The expression of GLUT1 and HIF-1α play an important role in lymph node metastasis and brain metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma.
