Objective To study the extracranial scalp electroencephalography ( EEG ) and intracranial electrocorticography (ECoG) of closed colony New Zealand white rabbits .Methods To record the extracranial scalp EEG and intracranial ECoG of closed colony New Zealand white rabbits , and to compare and analyze the results of those two scanning methods .Results EEG was characteristic of 9-12 c/sαwave and 16-20 c/sβwave with an amplitude of 30-100μV as the basic rhythm .ECoG showed 10-12 c/s αwave and 16-20 c/s βwave with an amplitude of 200-300 μV as the basic rhythm.Anesthesia could attenuate the electrocerebral activity , cause brain tissue hypoxia , and induce δ wave and slow θ wave in ECoG .Conclusions EEG method is a simple , non-invasive and convenient operation , and can be made in rabbits without anesthesia .The recorded EEG waveform is highly consistent with that of ECoG , and may be used as an alternative to the traditional ECoG in neurofunctional studies .

Objective: To explore the relationship among grit, self-identity and self-esteem and the mediating role of self-identity between grit and self-esteemin middle school students, so as to provide evidence for the study of grit of middle school students. Methods: In March 2019,1 476 middle school students were selected from two ordinary middle schools in a county of Fujian Province. 12-Ttem Grit-scale, Selt-identity Scale and Selt-esteem Scale were used to conduct the questionnaire survey. Results: Relevant analysis showed that perseverance of efforts, consistency of interests were positively correlated with self-identity (r=0.40, 0.31,P<0.01) and self-esteem (r=0.46, 0.18, P<0.01). Self-identity and self-esteem were positively correlated (r=0.67,P<0.01).The results of the mediation test showed that self-identity partially mediates the relationship between perseverance of efforts and self-esteem,mediation effect accounted for 50.38% of the total effect.Self-identity fullymediatesthe relationshipbetween consistency of interests and self-esteem. Conclusion The self-identity of middle school students partially mediates the relationship between perseverance of efforts and self-esteem, and completely mediates the relationship between consistency of interests and self-esteem.

The purpose of this epidemiologic study was to provide clinically useful information on the fundamentals for both the diagnosis and treatment planning of oral squamous cell carcinoma, which comprises 80-90% of all oral cancers. One hundred and forty two patients diagnosed with oral squamous cell carcinoma were selected from a total of 220 patients with oral malignancies. The patients' medical and follow-up records were reviewed and their survival was traced. The highest occurrence rate was observed in those aged between 60 and 69 years. The tongue was the most common primary site (31.7%) for oral squamous cell carcinoma. The survival rate was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method. The overall five-year survival rate of oral squamous cell carcinoma patients was 66.90%. The 5-year survival rate according to stage was 85.82% for stage I, and 49.98% for stage IV. The five-year survival rate according to the originating site was 91.67% for the retromolar trigone, 75.30% for the tongue, and 62.41% for the maxillary gingiva. In terms of cell differentiation, the majority (58.5%) was the well-differentiated type, which had a 5-year survival rate of 70.62%.

Objective To analyze the clinical features of candida arthritis and to conduct literature review to improve diagnosis and treatment.Methods From January 2008 to June 2018,eighteen patients (5 females and 13 males) with candida arthritis were admitted to two hospitals.The mean age at diagnosis was 59±8 (range 48-71 years).The diagnosis was determined based on joint fluid aspirate in all cases and on intra-operative samples in 1 patients.Seventeen patients received MR examination,and on epatient who underwent total knee arthroplasty underwent knee X-ray examination.The clinical features,risk factors,clinical manifestations,etiology,treatment and prognosis are recorded.Results Knee joints were involved in all patients as infection sites.Seventeen patients had risk factors for candida infection,including diabetes mellitus in 2 patients,artificial joint replacement in 1,and glucocorticoid injection in the joint cavity in 16.Swelling and pain were presented in all cases.Peripheral blood leukocytes were increased or normal,while C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) were increased.Magnetic resonance showed joint effusion and slip membrane hyperplasia.Joint turbidity and synovial hyperplasia were presented by arthroscopy.X-ray demonstrated swelling of soft tissue around the prosthesis and bone absorption around the prosthesis.The most frequent species was non-candida albicans.Susceptibility to antifungals was tested in all cases.Thirteen patients underwent surgery combined with antifungal therapy,while 4 patients only received antifungal therapy and 1 patient refused to treat.The duration of antifungal therapy was from 6 weeks to 52 weeks (median,12 weeks).Twelve cases were treated with fluconazole and 1 with voriconazole,1 with voriconazole and fluconazole,1 with fluconazole combined with lipid formulation amphotericin B,1 with terbinatine and fluconazole,1 with flucytosine combined with tluconazole.Seventeen cases were followed up for 3 to 72 months.At final follow-up,twelve patients were healed,while 1 case was amputated and 4 patients relapsed and refused further treatment.Conclusion As a rare disease,candida arthritis is usually happened after artificial joint replacement and in high-risk patients with diabetes and immunosuppressant applications.In immunoeompetent patients without surgery,infection may be related to multiple injections into the joim cavity with glucocorticoids.The infection may be difficult to be diagnosed and with poor prognosis.Surgery with long-term antifungal therapy is required.

Objective To explore the method and effect of applying just-in-time-teaching (JiTT) mode in the reform of the teaching method of biochemical comprehensive experiment (Isolation, Purification and Identification of γ-Globulin From serum). Methods A total of 100 undergraduate students in our 2016 clinical medicine were divided evenly into two groups: the control group and the experimental group. The control group used traditional teaching, and the experimental group used JiTT-based teaching. In the experimental group, an online environment for pre-classroom discussion and feedback was constructed by uploading learning resources such as short video and tutorials to the online teaching platform and the online learning exchange group 3-5 days before the class; the class session itself consisted of personal tests, face-to-face teaching by teachers, group discussion, finishing experimental report and answering questions etc., and was intended to evaluate the students' self-study. SPSS 22.0 was used to collect exam scores and questionnaire results, and the data between groups were compared using t test. Results The scores of individual test scores in the experimental group (9.44±0.59) were higher than those in the control group (8.77±0.41) (P=0.00), and the difference was statistically significant. In all the six questionnaire items pertaining to teaching effect , JiTT teaching method received higher scores than the traditional teaching method (P<0.05), and the difference was statistically significant. Conclusion JiTT can improve the quality of biochemistry experiment teaching. It is worthwhile to try it in the teaching of other basic specialized courses.

Objective:To evaluate the clinical effect of the modified transfer of the proximal interphalangeal joint (PIPJ) from the second toe in the treatment of a finger PIPJ defect.Methods:A total of 13 patients with finger PIPJ defects caused by traumatic injury were enrolled from May, 2017 to March, 2020. All the PIPJ defects had primary traumatic repairs. The causes of injury: 5 patients were caused by strangulation, 4 by chainsaw, 2 by strangulation and 2 by crushing. Of which, 7 patients had index finger injury, 3 middle fingers and 3 ring fingers. The operations were carried out 3-7 months after the first stage of treatment. The grafting of the PIPJ of the second toe with modified vascular anastomosis were performed. The ipsilateral second toe was taken in 10 patients, and the contralateral second toe in 3 patients. The grafted joints all carried observation skin islands, with an area of 1.0 cm×1.5 cm-1.0 cm×2.0 cm. All the secondary bone defects in the donor site of the toe were reconstructed with iliac bone grafts, and the length of the iliac bone strips was 4.0-6.0 cm. At the same time, the island flap on the fibular side of the great toe was removed and repaired at the donor site, with an area of 1.1 cm×1.6 cm - 1.1 cm×2.1 cm. Early postoperative rehabilitation was performed. The patients were followed-up through outpatient visits, telephone and WeChat interviews.Results:All the 13 finger PIPJ and donor site island flaps survived. Bone healing were observed in all patients with the healing time in 8-12(average 10) weeks. Three patients with severe adhesion of joint and tendon were treated with secondary release. All the patients were followed-up for 10 - 18 months without degeneration of PIPJ. Active range of motion of PIPJ ranged: 45°-90° in flexion and 0°-10° in extension, the average motion activity was 66.3°. Seven patients were in excellent, 4 in good and 2 in fair, according to the function assessment proposed by the Society of Hand Surgery of Chinese Medical Association. The appearance on donor site was good and the walking was normal in the longterm follow-up. Only one linear scar was left in the ilioinguinal donor site without obvious discomfort.Conclusion:It was possible to use the modified transfer of the PIPJ from the second toe in the treatment of a finger PIPJ defect. An iliac bone graft and an island flap of the first toe transfer can preserve the appearance and function of the toes.

Objective:To scientifically measure and morphologically evaluate the anatomical shape of the skin in the first web space based on cadavers, and to guide the design of flap in this area.Methods:Sixteen human cadavers fixed with 10% formaldehyde without injury or deformity on the hand were selected in the Department of Hand Surgery, the Third Hospital of Suqian. According to the characteristics of the first web area, marker points were selected for measurement and morphological observation. Morphological characteristics of the first web with thumb radial abduction(r) or palmar abduction(p) were measured and compared. The t-test was used for statistical analysis. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. According to the results of measurement, standardised shapes and parameters of the skin were obtained for flap repair of defect of the first web. Results:When the thumb was in palmar abduction, the maximum distance [a(p)] of the first web of female(F) and male(M) was 5.78/8.42 cm(F/M), and the skin [S(p)] was 17.09/23.63 cm 2(F/M), both were significantly greater than the distance [a(r)] at 4.86/6.28 cm and the area of skin area [S(r)] at 14.39/20.15 cm 2 when thumb was in the radial abduction position( P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the length of [b(r)] and [b(p)] alone the long axis of flap between palmar and radial abductions(7.54/9.38 cm and 7.34/9.74 cm, respectively) of the thumb( P>0.05). It was found that the area of first web was not shaped as a symmetrical spindle, but an irregular quadrilateral inclined to the index finger. Conclusion:Design and measurement of a flap for the first web space should take the maximum palmar abduction of a thumb as a reference. The asymmetric quadrilateral flap design is more in line with the anatomical and characteristics in the region.

INTRODUCTIONRetinitis pigmentosa (RP) is the most prevalent group of inherited retinopathies and demonstrates considerable clinical and genetic heterogeneity, with wide variations in disease severity, progression, and gene involvement. We studied a large family with RP to determine the pattern of inheritance and to identify the disease-causing gene/locus.

MATERIALS AND METHODSOphthalmic examination was performed on 35 family members to identify affected individuals and carriers and to characterise the disease phenotype. Genetic linkage analysis was performed using short tandem repeat (STR) polymorphic markers encompassing the known loci for Xlinked RP (xlRP) including RP2, RP3, RP6, RP23, and RP24. Mutation screening was performed by direct sequencing of PCR-amplified genomic DNA of the RP2 and RPGR genes of the affected individuals.

RESULTSA highly penetrant, X-linked form of RP was observed in this family. Age of onset was from 5 to 8 years and visual acuity ranged from 20/25 in children to light perception in older adults. Linkage analysis and direct sequencing showed that no known loci/genes were associated with the phenotype in this kindred.

CONCLUSIONA novel disease gene locus/loci is responsible for the xlRP phenotype in this family.

BACKGROUNDWe previously demonstrated that the aqueous extract of the Schizandra chinensis fruit (AESC) ameliorated Cd-induced depletion of monoamine neurotransmitters in the brain through antioxidant activity. In the present study, we investigated the effect of AESC on anxiety-like behavior and the levels of norepinephrine and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy-phenylglycol (a metabolite of norepinephrine) in different brain regions during ethanol withdrawal in rats.

METHODSMale Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with 3 g/kg of ethanol (20%, w/v) or saline by daily intraperitoneal injection for 28 days followed by three days of withdrawal. During withdrawal, rats were given AESC (100 mg × kg(-1)× d(-1) or 300 mg × kg(-1)× d(-1), P.O.) once a day for three days. Thirty minutes after the final dose of AESC, the anxiogenic response was evaluated using an elevated plus maze, and the plasma corticosterone levels were examined by radioimmunoassay. Meanwhile, the concentrations of norepinephrine and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy-phenylglycol in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus and hippocampus were also measured by high performance liquid chromatography.

RESULTSRats undergoing ethanol withdrawal exhibited substantial anxiety-like behavior, which was characterized by both the decrease in time spent in the open arms of the elevated plus maze and the increased level of corticosterone secretion, which were greatly attenuated by doses of AESC in a dose-dependent manner. The high performance liquid chromatography analysis revealed that ethanol withdrawal significantly increased norepinephrine and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy-phenylglycol levels in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus, while not significantly altering them in the hippocampus. Similar to the results from the elevated plus maze test, the AESC significantly inhibited the elevation of norepinephrine and its metabolite in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus in a dose-dependent manner.

CONCLUSIONSThese results suggest that AESC attenuates anxiety-like behavior induced by ethanol withdrawal through modulation of the hypothalamic norepinephrine system in the brain.
