Objective To discuss the value of video-assisted thoracoscope in the treatment of esophageal leiomyoma. Methods Clinical data of 19 patients with esophageal leiomyoma treated by video-assisted thoracoscopy from July 2000 to October 2007 were reviewed retrospectively.Under general anaesthesia with the patients at the lateral position according to the location of esophageal leiomyoma,3 incisions were made on the chest wall for insertion of the trocars.Gastroscope was applied for intraoperative auxiliary operation.Results Under a video-assisted thoracoscope,enucleation of the leiomyoma was performed on 18 of the patients,the other one,who were diagnosed with esophageal leiomyoma(3 cm ? 2 cm) was converted to thoracotomy because of the tumor was confirmed huge during the thoracoscopy.No postoperative death or severe complications occurred.Pathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of leiomyoma in all of the cases.The patients were followed up for a mean of 24.5 months(5-35 months),no recurrence was found during the period. Conclusions Video-assisted thoracoscopy can be the first choice for the treatment of esophageal leiomyoma.Open surgery should be considered if the tumor is huge.

AIM: To explore the role of plasma endothelin (ET) in patients with acute cerebral infarction (ACI) and its change after nimodipine treatment.METHODS:Sixty-six patients with ACI were randomly divided into 2 groups according to blood pressure:hypertension ACI group 35 patients［M 20,F 15;age (65±　s　11) a］ and pure ACI group 31 patients［M 17,F 14; age (62±10) a］.Plasma ET was measured by radioimmunoassay and compared with 27 healthy individuals.Among them,42 patients（hypertension ACI group 25 patients，pure ACI group 17 patients） with ACI were given nimodipine 4 mg, iv,gtt, qd, for 2 wk and measured ET again.　RESULTS:Plasma ET in 2 groups were (144±42) ng*L-1 and (72±35) ng*L-1 respectively, and that were (94±55) ng*L-1 and (60±37) ng*L-1 respectively after treatment with nimodipine, but was still higher than that in healthy individuals (P<0.01).　CONCLUSION: The level of plasma ET was associated with blood pressure and the severity of disease. ET is closely related with ACI. Nimodipine reduces the plasma ET while nerve function default degree is effectively improved.

Objective To determine the length of warm ischemic (WI) tolerance in bronchial graft from non-heart-beating donors. Methods Forty-eight rats were randomly divided into 4 groups (each group having 12 rats) according to different WI durations including WI-0 min (group A), WI-30 min (group B), WI-45 min (group C) and WI-60 min (group D). In each group, the tracheae from 6 rats were respectively imbedded in greater omentum of other 6 rats, and 14 days later, the transplanted tracheae were taken from recipients to evaluate epithelial thickness and regeneration. Results Epithelial thickness and the degree of epithelial regeneration had no significant difference (P >0. 05) between the syngeneic control group and the WI-30 minutes group. All of the grafts with WI duration of 45 min were viable, but the epithelium was significantly thinner than that in the syngeneic control group (P<0. 05). However all of the grafts with WI duration of 60 min showed lower viability rate. Conclusion The time limits of tolerance to WI of tracheal grafts from NHBDs may be 45 min.

Purpose To assess the diagnostic value of 18F-FLT and 18F-FDG PET/CT scan in patients with lung cancer. Materials and Methods Computer-based retrieval was performed on Medline, PubMed, EMbase, Wanfang data, CNKI and the Cochrane Library to search reports on diagnostic value of lung cancer with 18F-FLT and 18F-FDG PET/CT scan. The quality of included studies was evaluated according to quality assessment of diagnostic accuracy studies (QUADAS), and MetaDisc software was adopted to conduct meta-analysis. The pooled specificity, sensitivity, and diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) were calculated. The heterogeneity was tested. The summary receiving operating characteristic (SROC) curve was drawn, and the areas under the curve (AUC) as well as Q* were measured. Results Ten studies were included. Meta-analysis showed pooled sensitivity was 0.88, pooled specificity was 0.56, DOR was 9.10, AUC was 0.8102, Q*was 0.7448 for FDG group;pooled sensitivity was 0.79, pooled specificity was 0.78, DOR was 12.50, AUC was 0.8440, Q*was 0.7756 for FLT group. Conclusion Both 18F-FDG and 18F-FLT have well diagnostic value for lung cancer, but the specificity of 18F-FLT is higher than that of 18F-FDG in the diagnosis of lung cancer.

Although DNA vaccination is now a promising strategy against hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, this approach has relatively modest antiviral effect, indicating that immunosuppressive mechanisms may occur in the long-term established infection. In this study, we studied the immunogenicity and anti-HBV efficiency of a combination of HBV surface (HBsAg) and core (HBcAg) DNA vaccine, enhanced by heat shock protein (HSP) gp96 or HSP70 and mediated by in vivo electroporation. Immunization with gp96 adjuvanted HBsAg/HBcAg DNA formulation induced potent T cell and antibody immunity against HBsAg and HBcAg. Notably, treatment with gp96 or HSP70 as adjuvant resulted in reduction of Treg populations by around 20%. Moreover, compared with nonimmunized control mice, immunization with gp96 or HSP70 adjuvanted DNA vaccine dramatically decreased serum HBsAg and viral DNA levels, and HBcAg expression in liver. These results may therefore provide an effective strategy for designing gp96-based DNA vaccine for immunotherapy of chronic HBV infection.

ObjectiveTo explore effect of interleukin-10 (IL-10) on histopathologic scores of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) and the level of serum amylase (AMY) in rats.Methods48 female and male adult Sprague Dawley rats (200—300g) were randomly allocated into three groups: OPgroup, SAP group and IL-10 group with 16 rats in each group. SAP was made with retrograde ductal infusion of 5% sodium taurocholate solution.ResultsIn SAP and IL-10 group, there were interstitial edema, necrosis, neutrophil infiltration and interstitial hemorrhage of pancreas, more or less. At 6h and 12h after models were made, the pancreatic histopathologic score in IL-10 group (4.00±0.33 and 6.25±0.25) were significantly lower than that in SAP group (6.13±0.35 and 9.50±0.50)(P<0.01). At 6 h after models were made, the serum AMY in IL-10 group was lower than that in SAP group (P<0.05), but at 12 h there were no differences.ConclusionIn earlier period of SAP in rats, IL-10 can lower the serum AMY level, and significantly reduced pancreatic histologic score (edema, inflammation, hemorrhage, and necrosis).

This study was aimed to evaluate the biocompatibility of Hydroxyapatite/High density polyethylene (HA/ HDPE) nano-composites artificial ossicle. The percentage of S-period cells were detected by flow cytometry after L929 cells being incubated with extraction of the HA/HDPE nano-composites; the titanium materials for clinical application served as the contrast. In addition, both materials were implanted in animals and the histopathological evaluations were conducted. There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups (P >0.05). The results demonstrated that the HA/HDPE nano-composite artificial ossicle made by our laboratory is of a good biocompatibility and clinical application outlook.

While currently therapeutic vaccines for chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection are actively being developed to complement standard antiviral treatments, their immune activity, especially T cell activity, remains to be further improved. Here, we investigated the role of heat shock proteins HSP70 and gp96 on cellular and humoral immunity, using the main structure antigens of hepatitis core (HBcAg) and surface (HBsAg) as the DNA vaccine. By ELISPOT (enzyme linked immunospot assay), IFN-gamma intracellular staining, [3H]-thymidine incorporation and ELISA (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay) analyses, we showed that immunization with HBsAg/HBcAg DNA formulation along with HSP70 or gp96 induced significant increase of T-cell (about 1-6-fold) and antibody (about 20%-60%) immunity against HBsAg and HBcAg. These results may provide bases for designing HSP70- and gp96-based vaccines aimed at eliciting T-cell responses for therapeutic applications.

Objective To investigate the correlations of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) with fibrosis and fibroblast activation protein (FAP) score in pancreatic cancer .Methods Eighteen patients with pathologically confirmed pancreatic cancer were per‐formed conventional MR imaging ,DWI examinations .ADCs were measured with region of interest method on a “Single slice” .The wax blocks of 18 patients with pancreatic cancer were received Masson staining and FAP immunohistochemical staining .The correla‐tions of ADC with levels of fibrosis and FAP scores of pancreatic cancer were assessed by Pearson correlation analysis .Results The mild negative correlation between ADC value of cancerous foci and fibrosis was not significant (r= -0 .459 ,P=0 .056) .Significant negative correlation was found between ADC values of moderate and high differentiation cancerous foci and fibrosis (r= -0 .564 ,P=0 .044) .Significant negative correlation was found between ADC value and FAP score (r= -0 .497 , P=0 .036) .Conclusion The negative correlations are found between ADC and fibrosis ,FAP score of pancreatic cancer .DWI will be helpful to infer the pathologi‐cal characteristics .

This study was aimed to evaluate the biocompatibility of metal powder injection molding (MIM) 316L stainless steel. The percentage of S-period cells was detected by flow cytometry after L929 cells being incubated with extraction of MIM 316L stainless steel, and titanium implant materials for clinical application were used as control. In addition, both materials were implanted in animals and the histopathological evaluations were carried out. The statistical analyses show that there are no significant differences between the two groups (P > 0.05), which demonstrate that MIM 316L stainless steel has good biocompatibility.
