Objective To observe the effect of visible light on apoptosis of cultured human retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells. Methods Being the light source,500lx,(2 000?500)lx and (3 400?200)lx cold white light were used. The duration of exposure was 0,6,12 and 24 hours respectively. Apoptosis was detected by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated dUTP nick end labelling, Annexin V flunorescein isothiocyanate/Propidium iodium labelling and flow cytometry. Results Apoptosis and necrosis were found in cultured human RPE cells which were exposed to visible light.(1)A significant increase in apoptotic and necrotic percentages was consistent with a higher light intensity.(2)Apoptosis was the main response to shorter (6 h and 12 h) exposure duration, while necrosis was more pronounced correlated to the prolongation of post exposure culture ( P 500 lx) increases the proportion of apoptosis and necrosis of human RPE cells in vitro. The extent is related to exposure intensity and duration. It demonstrates that the lower intensity and the shorter duration of exposure to light are, the more pronounced apoptotic percentages are observed, otherwise necrosis.
5.Effect of Various Kind of Dyslipidaemia on Insulin Resistance and Pancreatic Islet Function in Newly Diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic Patients
Journal of Chinese Physician 2001;0(07):-
Objective To evaluate the effect of various kinds of dyslipidaemia on insulin resistance and pancreatic islet ? cell function in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients. Methods 263 patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes were divided into normal lipidemia group and dyslipidaemia group according to ATPⅢ standard. The dyslipidaemia group included 3 subgroups as the following: high TG group, high TC group, and mix group with high TG and TC. Homeostasis model assessment (HOMA) was applied to estimate insulin resistance (IR) and pancreatic islet ? cell function. Early insulin secretion index (EISI) and area under curve of insulin (AUCI) at all OGTT time points were calculated. Results Incidence of dyslipidaemia in the type 2 diabetic patients was 63%. BMI and WHR were significantly higher in both high TG group and mix group than in normal lipidemia group(P

Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2015;(4):246-250
Objective:To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture combined with tuina manipulation for thoracic facet joint disorder. Methods:A total of 93 eligible cases were randomly allocated into an observation group and a control group. Patients in the observation group (n=46) were treated with acupuncture combined with tuina manipulation, whereas patients in the control group (n=47) were treated with tuina manipulation alone. The treatment was done once a day, for a total of 3 times. Therapeutic efficacies were then evaluated according to scores on signs and symptoms.
Results:After treatment, there were intra-group statistically significant differences in scores of eight signs and symptoms (all P<0.01); and the between-group differences were statistically significant in scores of eight signs and symptoms (all P<0.05). After three times of treatment, the recovery rate in the observation group was 54.4%, versus 25.4% in the control group, showing a statistical significance (P<0.05).
Conclusion:Acupuncture combined with tuina manipulation can obtain better effects than tuina manipulation alone for thoracic facet joint disorder and is therefore worth further clinical application.

Journal of Chinese Physician 2015;17(6):858-861
Objective To investigate the factors of hospitalization expense in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus undergoing non-emergency surgery. Methods A retrospective study included diabetic (109 cases) and control (162 cases) groups.Hospitalization expense and other observation indices were compared between two groups and subgroups. The factors that contribute to hospitalization expense were analyzed with multifactor regression analysis model. Results The median hospitalization expense was 12 014.74 yuan in the diabetic group,1.24 times than that in the control group (P =0.001).Diabetic group has higher American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification, longer wound healing time, higher postoperative infection rate, and longer hospital stay (P < 0.01).Multifactor analysis revealed that the significant factors that influence the hospitalization expense were ASA classification (β =0.442,P =0.000),postoperative fasting plasma glucose (β =0.204,P =0.020),and postoperative infection (β =0.204,P =0.019).No significant difference was found in postoperative infection rate and hospitalization expense between two groups, when patients had received minimally invasive surgeries (P > 0.05).Conclusions Type 2 diabetes patients have higher hospitalization expense;ASA classification, postoperative fasting plasma glucose, and postoperative infection are the main influence factors.Giving priority to minimally invasive surgeries and enhancing perioperative glucose control can help to reduce hospitalization expense in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
