To investigate the relationship between serum retinol-binding protein 4(RBP4) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in Chinese Han pregnant women.195 (23-42 years) pregnant women were recruited (July 2005 to December 2007) from the Department of Gynecology and Obstetric in Ruijin Hospital during their visiting for routine prenatal examination.99 subjects belonged to GDM group, and 96 belonged to the group with normal glucose tolerance (NGT).65 non-pregnant healthy women served as control.Serum RBP4 was measured using sandwich enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Pregnant women had higher level of serum RBP4 than that of non-pregnant control. The concentration of serum RBP4 was significantly increased in GDM group as compared with NGT group[(43.04±1.85 vs 33.84±2.17) rag/L,P<0.01].Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that triglycerides and homeostasis assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) were independent variables of RBP4 (r2 =0.165) in pregnant women. The results suggest that serum RBP4 level is significantly increased in pregnant women.Women with GDM had even higher RBP4 level than that of normal pregnant women, and RBP4 levele was positively correlated with triglycerides and HOMA-IR.

Objective To clarify the depression status of empty-nest elderly in Shanxi Province, to explore the related influencing factors by structural equation model, and to provide scientific basis for the prevention and intervention of depression for empty nesters. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among 4 901 empty-nest elderly in Shanxi Province by self-rating depression scale and general situation questionnaire, and the model was established. Results The prevalence of depressive symptoms among empty nesters in Shanxi Province was 64.21%. The model demonstrated that health status had a direct impact on depressive symptoms (P=0.028), the total effect was -0.978; the effect of economic status on depressive symptoms was 0.086 (P=0.030), and social function had no significant impact on depressive symptoms (P=0.173), which could affect depressive symptoms through affecting health status and economic status. There was a significant correlation between the three latent variables (P<0.05). Health status had the strongest correlation with social function (r=0.942), followed by economic status (r=0.718), and the correlation between social function and economic status was 0.683. Conclusions In this research, most of the empty-nest elderly suffer from depressive symptoms. Health status is the most direct and important influencing factor of depressive symptoms in empty nesters. Social function affects depressive symptoms through influencing health status and economic status.

OBJECTIVETo study the growth rhythm of preterm appropriate for gestational age (AGA) infants by investigating their physical catch-up growth characteristics.
METHODSEighty-four preterm AGA newborns (44 males and 40 females) with gestational ages between 28-36 weeks were enrolled. The weight, length and head circumference were evaluated by Z score according to the criterions of actual and corrected ages.
RESULTSThe preterm infants had the catch-up growth in weight, length and head circumference in the first year of life. The growth velocity within the first three months was the highest. The velocity in the weight catch-up was higher than that in the length.
CONCLUSIONSThe fastest growing period is the early three month of life in preterm AGA infants. The catch-up growth in weight and length is unbalanced.

Objective:To analyze the laboratory parameters and clinical characteristics of TTP patients, so as to provide reference for the timely diagnosis and death risk assessment or TTP.Methods:83 patients with TTP from June 2016 to March 2022 in our hospital were analyzed retrospectively. They were divided into survival and death groups. The differences in general information, clinical symptoms and laboratory parameters were compared between the two groups. The prognostic prediction score was constructed by combining parameters which differ between the two groups to calculate the corresponding mortality risk.Results:83 patients were included in the study, of whom 81.1% (60/74), 91.1% (72/79) and 86.2% (50/58) had increased AST, IBIL and cTnI results, and all (78/78) had higher LDH at admission. Hb was decreased in 97.5% (79/81) patients, and PLT of 97.5% (79/81) patients was less than 30×10 9/L. There were no significant differences in gender, age, blood type, presence of fever, ADAMTS-13 activity and PLASMIC score between the survival group (58 cases) and the death group (25 cases), but the proportion of neurologic symptoms in the death group was significantly higher than that in the survival group. AST, IBIL, cTnI and APTT at admission were significantly higher in the death group than in the survival group ( P<0.05). The risk of death was 4.86, 9.74, 3.71, and 5.33 for those with high AST, IBIL, APTT, and cTnI levels, respectively, compared with those with low levels at admission. At last, AST, IBIL, APTT, cTnI and neurological symptoms were included to construct a score model. For each 1 point increase, the risk of short-term death in TTP patients was 3.24. Conclusions:Multiple laboratory markers have high negative exclusion value for TTP. For TTP patients with high AST, IBIL, cTnI and APTT and neurologic symptoms, more attention and active treatment should be paid to reduce mortality.
