Objective To explore the effect of electromyogram-triggered neuromusclar stimulation (ETNS) on motor function of upper limbs of stroke patients. Methods 45 stroke patients from July, 2011 to December, 2012 in China Rehabilitation Research Center were randomly divided into control group (n=15), neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) group (n=15) and ETNS group (n=15). 3 groups were given routine medication and rehabilitation treatment. They were assessed with the largest surface electromyography (sEMG), Simple Test for Evaluating Hand Function (STEF), and modified Barthel Index before and after treatment. Results After treatment, the range of sEMG of extension carpi radialis and STEF improved in three groups (P<0.05). NMES group and ETNS group were better than the control group (P<0.05), and ETNS group was better than NMES group (P<0.05). The scores of modified Barthel Index rose (P<0.05), NMES group and ETNS group were better than the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Both NMES and ETNS can improve the motor recovery of upper limbs after stroke, and ETNS is more effective.

Microbiology 1992;0(02):-
Iron uptake mechanism of Vibrio alginolyticus was primarily investigated. V.alginolyticus could survive in the medium with high-concentration iron chelator. The strain of V. alginolyticus isolated from diseased fish produced more siderophore than that from marine environment. The extract of siderophore from V. alginolyticus could stimulate the growth of Escherichia coli mutant AN93. Under iron limitation, the growth rate was decreased and several outer membrane proteins were induced. Adding iron into the iron-limited medium the normal growth could be recovered.

Objective To investigate the effects of penehyclldine hydrochloride postconditioning on hind limb ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury in rats. Methods One hundred and forty-four male Wistar rats weighing 220-250 g were randomly divided into 4 groups (n = 36 each): control group (group C), I/R group, ischemic postconditioning group (group IPO) and penehyclidine hydrochloride postconditioning group (group PHPO). Limb ischemia was induced by occlusion of bilateral hind limb for 3 h followed by 24 h reperfusion. In group IPO, the animals were subjected to three cycles of 30 s reperfusion and 30 s ischemia on the proximal part of the hind limb, while in group PHPO, the animals received iv injection of penehyclidine hydrochloride 0.15 mg/kg (in normal saline 1 wl) via the caudal vein immediately after reperfusion. Blood samples from the inferior vena cava were taken for determination of activities of serum LDH and CK and concentrations of TNF-α and IL-10 at O, 1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 h of reperfusion. Then 6 rats were sacrificed at each time point respectively and the quadriceps femoris tissues of the hind limb were removed for determination of MDA content, activities of SOD, MPO, Na+ -K+-ATPase and Ca2 + - Mg2+ -ATPase, and HIF- 1 α expression and microscropic examination. Results Compared with group C, the activities of serum LDH and CK and concentrations of TNF-α and IL-10 were significantly increased, the activities of SOD, Na+-K+-ATPase and Ca2+-Mg2+-ATPase were decreased, MPO activities and MDA content were increased, HIF-1α expression was up-regulated in group I/R, IPO and PHPO (P <0.05 or 0.01). Compared with group I/R, the serum activities of serum LDH and CK and TNF-α concentration were significantly decreased, IL- 10concentration was increased, activities of SOD, Na+ -K+ -ATPase and Ca2+ -Mg2+ -ATPase were increased, and MPO activity and MDA content were decreased, HIF-1α expression was down-regulated (P < 0.01), and the pathologic changes was reduced in group IPO and PHPO. Compared with group IPO, the serum LDH activity and TNF-α concentration were significantly decreased, CK activity and IL-10 concentration were increased, activities of SOD and MPO and MDA content were decreased and HIF-1α expression was down-regulated (P < 0.05 or 0.01).Conclusion Penehyclidine hydrochloride postconditioning can reduce hind limb I/R injury in rats, and the mechanism is related to inhibiting inflammatory response and lipid peroxidation, reducing calcium overload and improving cellular energy metabolism.

Background The integration of segregated pathways from the two eyes first appears in V1 neurons, where it not only plays a critical role in the generation of a three-dimensional visual representation.Abnormal visual experiences in critical period usually lead to amblyopia and binocular integration defects. Objective Present study was to investigate how neurons of kitten coordinate their activity patterns in response to synchronous dichoptic stimulus inputs in striate cortex. Methods Spike rate and local field potential(LFP) gamma band(20-90Hz) power of three kitten(1-1.2Kg,8-10 weeks old) to monocular and synchronous dichoptic presented gratings were assessed for 28 binocular neurons in V1 of kitten by in vivo extracellular record method under anaesthesia and paralysis.Ocular dominance index(ODI) and binocular integration index(BII) were assessed and the correlation between these two indexes were analyzed. Results In 28 cells with binocular characteristic, the absolute value of spike-ODI was significant larger than that of LFP-ODI(t=2.606,P=0.021).A positive linear correlation between the ocular preferences of spike and LFP was found(R2=0.513,F=27.423,P=0.003).In dichotic trails, binocular facilitation with BII for spike was 2.348±0.996,showing a significant reduce in comparison with BII for LFP(3.678±1.974)(t=2.671,P=0.019).Binocular integration index for two signals were greater when monocular responses of both eyes were similar(P=0.035 and P=0.124,respectively).Conclusion Both spike rate and gamma band power of LFP exhibited binocular facilitation to synchronous presented dichotic stimuli with significant facilitation induced by balanced monocular responses.Spiking activity and LFP reflect neural activities of different spatial scales and source components.

OBJECTIVEThe biological safety of a new developed silicone rubber for inflatable silastic prosthesis (SRISP) was evaluated.
METHODSFollowing the GB/T 16886.10-2005 standard, YY/T 0127.13-2009 standard, and GB/T 16886.11- 2011 standard, samples were prepared and tested by animal experiments, such as guinea pig maximization test, oral mucous membrane irritation test, and short-term systemic toxicity test (oral route).
RESULTSNo obvious erythema and edema in the guinea pig abdominal skin were observed after 24, 48, and 72 h of stimulating touch, thus indicating that SRISP does not cause potential skin sensitivity. No local response to SRISP was found, and the visual observation and pathological findings of oral mucosa were normal and similar to that of the control group. Therefore, SRISP had no irritation response to oral mucosa. No clinical signs of toxicity were observed in rats, and no significant differences in weight and weight relative growth rate between extract group and blank control group (P > 0.05) were found. Thus, SRISP had no short-term systemic toxicity.
CONCLUSIONThese results indicated that SRISP met the requirement of biomedical materials and had good bio- security.

OBJECTIVEThe aim of this study is to investigate the occurrence and mechanism of Cheyne-Stokes breathing pattern in patients with heart failure.
METHODSFifty-six patients who performed polusomnography sleep testing at National Center of Cardiovascular Diseases Fuwai Hospital from March to May in 2015. We divided them into chronic heart failure (CHF) group and non-CHF group.
RESULTSThe occurrences of sleep apnea in two groups were high. In CHF group (n = 11) , there were 10 patients with apnea hypopnea index (AHI) > 5; and their AHI was 23.93 ±14.63. In non-CHF group (n = 45), there were 33 patients whose AHI > 5; and their AHI was 16.20 ± 18.76. The ratio of center sleep apnea to all gross sleep apnea ratio in CHF group was higher than that in non-CHF group (80.21% ± 30.55% vs 27.16% ± 35.71%, P < 0.01 ).
CONCLUSIONBased upon the new theory of holistic integrative physiology and medicine, we explain the mechanism of circulatory dysfunction induce the oscillation breathing in patients with CHF. The sleep apnea and C-S respiration in CHF should be called circulatory sleep apnea, rather than central sleep apnea.
