Objective To observe the effect of Maiya on the hormone level of the female mice. Methods Female mature mice (5 ～ 6 months) were ovariectomized and treated with Maiya. Follicular stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P) in blood were examinated. Results Maiya could increase the FSH and E2 in blood, and decrease P in blood of the castrated mice, while the level of LH had no obvious change. Conclusion Maiya can influence the level of hormone.

Abstract?AIM:To evaluate the effect of combined glaucoma and cataract surgery on the function of eye surface and tear film.?METHODS:This clinical trial involved 75 patients ( 75 eyes ) with glaucoma complicated with cataract undergoing combined glaucoma and cataract surgery.All the eyes were divided into surgical group ( the eyes undergoing operation ) and control group ( the other eyes).The symptoms and signs of dry eye disease, Schirmer's I test, break -up time ( BUT ) , corneal fluorescein staining were tested and marked 1mo after operation.Comparison of the results was made between two groups.?RESULTS:The average intraocular pressure was 16.25± 0.46mmHg at 1mo after operation, compared with 45.29± 4.39mmHg at 3d before surgery, the difference was statistically significant ( P<0.05 ).Preoperative average visual acuity was 0.08±0.06, corrected visual acuity was<0.05 in 23 eyes,≥0.05 to<0.1 in 16 eyes,≥0.1 to<0.3 in 36 eyes.Postoperatively 1mo, corrected visual acuity:<0. 05 for 7 eyes (9%),≥0.05 to <0.1 for 11 eyes (15%), ≥0.1 to<0.3 for 38 eyes (51%), ≥0.3 to <0.5 for 11 eyes (15%) , ≥0.5 for 8 eyes (11%), postoperative visual acuity was 0.15 ±0.1, which was significantly higher than before surgeries ( P<0.05).The postoperative dry eye symptoms of surgical group was higher, compared with that of control group, and the differences of diagnosis of dry eye test indicators between the two groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).? CONCLUSION: Combined cataract and glaucoma surgery may affect postoperative ocular surface and tear film function, make the tear film stability damaged and lead to dry eye disease.

The risk factors of diastolic heart failure include among others: hypertension,diabetes,myocardial ischemia and aging.The underlying mechanisms for this cardiac complication are incompletely understood.With the increase of aging of the population,the prevalence and mortality of diastolic heart failure is rising gradually.It seriously affects the life quality and life span of people.In order to more truly reveal the underlying mechanisms of diastolic heart failure and to develope novel therapeutic strategies,the experimental animal models are extremely important.The present review focuses on providing an overview of the characteristics of these models for the growing number of investigators who seek to understand the pathology of diastolic heart failure.

Objective To observe-the different effects of 2 doses recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factors (rhG-CSF) on Nogo receptor(NgR) expression in the brain tissue of neonatal rats after hypoxic-ischemic brain damage(HIBD) at different times in order to reveal the neuroprotective effects of rhG-CSF.Methods Seven-day neonatal Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats were randomly divided into 4 groups by drawing method:sham operation group,model group,low-dose rhG-CSF group and high-dose rhG-CSF group,24 rats in each group.Then each group was divided into 4 subgroups (6 rats in each subgroup)and all rats were exterminated at different times after HIBD(1 d,3 d,7 d and 14 d).In the low-dose rhG-CSF group and high-dose rhG-CSF group,the rats were given daily doses of rhG-CSF 50 μg/kg,100 μg/kg respectively for 7 days by subcutaneous injection immediately after the molding(total 7 injections).In model group,rats received an injection of same amount of 9 g/L saline.In sham operation group,rats received no special treatment.Brain tissues of rats from each group were collected at different time points.The expressions of NgR protein and NgR mRNA in the left brain tissue were detected by immunohistochemistry and real-time fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR).Results Immunohistochemistry:NgR proteins were constitutively expressed in the cerebral cortex in sham operation group at each time point;compared with sham operation group,the expressions of NgR in model group were increased markedly at each time point (135.67 ± 16.63,173.98 ± 17.82,234.00 ± 14.70,319.59 ± 25.22),and the differences were statistically significant(all P ＜ 0.01);compared with model group,the expressions of NgR in the cerebral cortex in low-dose rhG-CSF group (134.35 ± 8.89,109.04 ± 12.62,75.99 ± 13.39) and high-dose rhG-CSF group (81.38 ± 12.25,80.14 ± 10.50,72.58 ± 13.66) on the 3rd,7th,14th day were reduced significantly (all P ＜ 0.01).Compared with low-dose rhG-CSF group,the protein expressions of NgR in the high-does rhG-CSF group were decreased faster,and had the marked difference on the 3rd,7th day (P ＜ 0.05).Real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR:compared with the sham operation group,the expressions of NgR mRNA increased gradually in the cerebral cortex in the model group (1.34 ± 0.24,1.88 ± 0.27,2.88 ± 0.84,4.26 ± 0.86),the differences in NgR mRNA expression were statistically significant at different times(all P ＜ 0.05) ; compared with model group,the expressions of NgR mRNA in low-dose rhG-CSF group on the 7th (1.08 ± 0.30),14th day (0.93 ± O.26) and high-dose rhG-CSF group on the 3rd (0.61 ± 0.10),7th (0.56 ± 0.28),14th day (0.47 ± 0.12) were significantly different (all P ＜ 0.05).The expressions of low-dose group and high-dose group were reduced gradually.The NgR mRNA expression reduced more quickly in the high-dose group than in the low-dose rhG-CSF group and had substantial difference between two groups in 3 days (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions The findings suggest that rhG-CSF intervention can reduce the expressions of NgR in the brain tissues of neonatal rats after HIBD,and low-dose rhG-CSF also has neuroprotective effect,but it could be weaker than high-dose rhG-CSF.

Objective To determine the contents of fructose, glucose, sucrose and total saccharide in honeysuckle extracts which were produced by three classical methods, to provide scientific data for producing and controlling of those patent medicines containing honeysuckle extract. Methods Three classical extract methods were used for producing honeysuckle extracts. HPLC-ELSD method was used for determining the contents of fructose, glucose, sucrose, and a spectrophotometric determination method was used for determining the contents of total saccharide. Results The contents of fructose in three honeysuckle extracts were 5.44%, 3.47%, 4.74%, glucose were 4.35%, 2.73%, 4.21%, glucose were 17.41%, 8.47%, 14.47%, and total saccharide were 50.63%, 41.12%, 35.90%, respectively. Conclusion About 36%～51% of total components of honeysuckle extracts were determined except chlorogenic acids, and 19%～27% of components in the extracts were fructose, glucose, sucrose.

AIM:To investigate the effects of ?v?6 integrin-mediated cell adhesion on 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) induced apoptosis in colon carcinoma cell lines.METHODS: The expression of the ?v?6 integrin in colon carcinoma cell lines HT-29 and WiDr cells was analyzed by flow cytometry. The apoptosis induced by 5-FU and the effects of ?v?6 integrin-mediated cell adhesion on 5-FU induced cell apoptosis were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method and acridine orange-ethidium bromide (AO-EB) double fluorescent dye staining.RESULTS: Both the colon carcinoma cell lines HT-29 and WiDr cells expressed the ?v?6 integrin.
