1.Accidents in acupuncture treatment: history and current state

Acupuncture is widely used as an alternative therapy with few side effects because of its simple manipulation and low cost. However, accidents may occur if the practitioner uses it improperly. Early in the Qin dynasty, the Canon of Medicine mentioned that improper use of acupuncture could cause injury to the body and even death, and it systematically described the occurrence and prevention of acupuncture accidents. Physicians in the successive dynasties frequently reported it, and realized that the manipulation skills were significantly important in preventing the occurrence of acupuncture accidents. Since the 1950s, acupuncture accidents had been effectively prevented because of the improving of acupuncture instruments, enhancing of the quality of the practitioners, popularizing of sterilization and disseminating of anatomic knowledge. Nevertheless, with the renovating of acupuncture techniques, new accidents may occur constantly. The prevention of acupuncture accidents still should be an arduous task for acupuncturists. Nowadays, acupuncture therapy is being used in more than 140 countries, and acupuncture accidents due to improper application are increasing. Prevention of acupuncture accidents has become a global issue deserving of great attention.
2.History and current state of moxibustion

Moxibustion is an important invention of the Chinese nation, which originated as early as in the clan commune period of the primitive society. The literature records on moxibustion can be traced back to the Warring States Period (475 B.C. to 221 B.C.). Doctors through the ages made considerable progress and published a great number of books on moxibustion. Moxibustion has been applied in treating a great range of diseases. Since the 1950s, the treatment scope of moxibustion has been expanded, and the therapeutic methods of moxibustion are becoming increasingly rich and varied, and great progress in research on the mechanism of moxibustion has been made. Moxibustion was once popular in Europe after its dissemination to the West in the seventeenth century, and the practitioners invented some new methods of moxibustion. Japan is the country in the West where fruitful efforts have been made in research on moxibustion. In modern times, moxibustion has been used for health protection, and the scientists are paying great attention to the experimental research on moxibustion.

4.Research progress of dexmedetomidine for elderly patients during anesthesia

Degenerative changes in autonomic nervous system happen in elderly. The cardiac function reduces, the ability of regulating the target organ decreases, and the stability of hemodynamics is not easy to maintain in old people. How to maintain the hemodynamic stability of elderly patients during anesthesia has become the focus of clinical research. Dexmedetomidine, as a new type of 2- alpha adrenergic agonist, has the function of anti-anxiety, sedation, analgesia and anti-sympathy, and which is wildly used in clinic. This article describes the research progress of dexmedetomidine used in elderly patients during anesthesia.
5.The management of cerebrospinal fluid leakage after transsphenoidal surgical removal of pituitary adenomas

Objective To evaluate the incidence and the causes of the intra-and postoperative cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)leakage during transsphenoidal surgical removal of pituitary adenomas,and discuss the sella closure methods.Method During the period from January 1998 to May 2008,118 patients underwent 134 transsphenoidal operations for pituitary adenomas.Two different methods to close the sella were used.The first one consisted packing the sella turcica and sphenoidal sinus with autologous fat and restoring the defect of sella turcica with autologous bone.In the second method,tht regenerated oxidized cellulose and collagen sponge with human fibrin were used to cover the seUa membrane defect and the dural defect,followed by packing the seHa with autologous fat.Proportions of each type of pituitary adenomas were analyzed.The frequency of the intra-and postoperative CSF leakage were evaluated in different type tumors and different operations.Data had been studied by statistical analysis.Results The incidence rate of intraoperative CSF leakage(26.5%,9/34)Was obviously increased in patients with growth homone adenoma compared with other type of adenoma(13.0%,13/100).Patients with invasive adenoma had an increased incidence rate of intraoperative CSF leakage(21.1%,8/38)compared with noninvasive adenoma(14.6%,14/96)(P<0.05).When the descent of the sella turcica membrane Was visualized with tumor being totally removed,the incidence rate of intraoperative CSF leakage increased(18.7%,20/107)compared with when membrane descent was not seen with tumor remaining(7.4%,2/27)(P<0.05).There were 3 cases postoperative CSF leakage happened in all 12 cases which adopted the first method. By the second method,there was no postoperative CSF leakage,and the number of postoperative complications was significantly smaller than the first method (10.0% and 33.3%,respectively). Conclusions The technique of covering the sella membrane and dural defects with oxidized cellulose and collagen sponge with human fibrin in the presence of intraoperative CSF leakage appears to be the most reliable,as no postoperative CSF leakage after applying this technique has been observed.
6.Alteration of level of panel reactive antibodies, TGF-βin serum and expression rate of nTreg cells in peripheral blood in women with unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion after immunotherapy

Objective: To investigate the effects of immunotherapy on PRA, TGF-β and CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ nTreg cells in women with unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion. Methods:We detect the level of PRA,TGF-βin serum and the expression of nTreg cells in peripheral blood of pregnant, non pregnant and natural fertility women by enzyme immunoassay and flow cytometry. Results:After immunotherapy,the median level of PRA and TGF-βin non pregnant group was lower than that in pregnant group(27. 5%,107. 7 pg/L vs 68. 75%,189. 9 pg/L,P<0. 01). Compared to pregnant group,the median expression rate of nTreg cells were lower in non pregnant group(5. 05% vs 8. 05%,P<0. 01). Conclusion:The PRA,TGF-βand nTreg cells are critical factors for pregnancy in RSA patients. It is helpful to identify and judge the effect of immunotherapy by detect the level of panel reactive antibodies,TGF-β in serum and the expression rate of nTreg cells in peripheral blood.
7.Combination of 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine and trichostatin A synergistically increased chemosensitivity of human gastric cancer cells to anticancer drugs

s Objective To observe the enhancement of sensitivity of human gastric cancer cell MKN-74 to anticancer drugs by administration of 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine(5-Aza-CdR)and trichostatin A(TSA)with anticancer drugs.Methods Growth inhibition of MKN-74 with treatment of 5-Aza-CdR and/or TSA together with anticancer drugs,including fluorouracil(5-FU),paclitaxel(PTX),oxaliplatin(OXA),SN38 or gemcitabine(GEM),was detected by MTT method.Induction of apoptosis was analyzed by flow cytometry.Expressions of p21,caspase3,Rb and p16 gene were studied by RT-PCR.The gray scale of the genes was analyzed by gel analysis software Bandscan 4.3,and the ratio of gray scale of targeted genes and GAPDH gene were calculated.Results Compared with 5-Aza-CdR alone,combined administration of 5-Aza-CdR and TSA enhanced the chemosensitivity of MKN-74 to 5-FU,PTX,OXA and GEM.Compared with TSA alone,the combined administration enhanced its osensitivity to OXA and GEM.The apoptosis rates in MKN-74 cells in TSA+OXA group,5-Aza-CdR+OXA group and 5-Aza-CdR+TSA+OXA group were 28.067%,25.333% and 38.367%,respectively(P

9.Immuno-therapeutic effect of Interleukin-2 in HIV-1 infection

Antiretroviral therapy(ART)has been started in an increasingly earlier period in clinical practice.However,owing to the failure of immunological reconstitution or maintenance of latent HIV-1 reservoir in present antiviral treatment,interleukin-2(IL-2)is widely used as an adjuvant to ART with a view to intensifying immunological reconstitution and to activating latent HIV-1 infections.Some conclusions could be drawn as follows,1)IL-2 can extend the half-life of CD+4 T cells and increase the number of CD+4 T cells.2)Compared with ART alone,IL-2 and HAART combination can not reduce HIV-1 related opportunistic infection or death.IL-2 clinical usage is mainly focused on purging HIV-1 reservoir.3)IL-2 combined with ART could increase out flow rate of HIV-1 latent reservoir to reduce HIV-1 infected quiescent memory cells in peripheral circulation even to an undetectable level.4)IL-2 is supposed to be used periodically and for a long period of time.

Most patients with ischemic stroke are accompanied by osteopenia and osteoporosis, especially in the hemiplegic side, which seriously affects the prognosis of the patients.At the same time, osteoporosis is also an independent risk factor for ischemic stroke.Among the many treatment options, rehabilitation training plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.In recent years, it has gradually aroused the interest of researchers.This article reviews the relationship between osteoporosis and ischemic stroke, as well as the rehabilitation treatment of osteoporosis.
