Journal of Southern Medical University 2007;27(12):1921-1923
OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of X ray on human colorectal cancer cells for their tumor necrosis factor receptor-p55 (TNFR-p55) expression and release of soluble soluble TNFR-p55 (sTNFR-p55) in vitro.
METHODSThe protein expression of TNFR-p55 in Lovo cells exposed to X-ray was detected using immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to examine the levels of sTNFR-p55 in the supernatants of the cell culture. The cell apoptosis of the exposed cells was analyzed with flow cytometry, and the changes in cell morphology were observed microscopically.
RESULTSX-ray exposure of cells resulted in a strong increase in TNFR-p55 expression of (P<0.01) and LoVo cell apoptosis (P<0.05). The levels of sTNFR-p55 in the supernatant of cells with X-ray exposure was significantly lowered in comparison with the levels before exposure (P<0.01). Optical microscopy showed that the exposed LoVo cells shrank and became spherical with cytoplasmic condensation and nuclear pyknosis.
CONCLUSIONX-ray exposure can induce LoVo cell apoptosis by increasing TNFR-p55 expression on the cell membrane and inhibiting the release of sTNFR-p55 in the supernatants.

Objective:To investigate short-term and long-term outcomes of off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting(OPCABG)in patients aged 80 years and over. Methods:In this retrospective study, clinical data were collected, from June 2005 to July 2014, of 31 patients aged 80 and over years with left ventricular dysfunction who had received OPCABG in Beijing Anzhen Hospital and a follow-up of 3-12 years after discharge. Results:Ages of the patients ranged from 80 to 88 years with a mean age of(82.0±2.1)years.There were 25 males(80.6%). The mean left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)of patients was(42.0±6.5)% before operation, and 15 patients had LVEF less than 35%(48.4%). The average operation time was 4 hours.Three patients died in hospital(9.7%), of whom, one died from acute respiratory failure and the two others from low cardiac output syndrome.Perioperative complications included myocardial infarction(1 case, 3.2%), acute cerebral infarction(2 cases, 6.5%), tracheal intubation(3 cases, 9.7%), secondary thoracotomy and hemostasis(1 case, 3.2%), continuous renal replacement therapy(3 cases, 9.7%)and perioperative intra-aortic balloon pump(IABP)(8 cases, 25.8%). Twenty-eight patients were followed up for 3-12 years(median, 8.0 years), and no one had withdrawn. There were 10 all-cause deaths(35.7%), including 5 cardiogenic deaths(17.9%), 2 lung cancer deaths(7.1%), 2 deaths due to sepsis from systemic infection(7.1%), and 1 death from unknown causes.Besides, 2 patients had re-admission(7.1%), 2 patients suffered angina(7.1%)and 1 patient(3.6%)had recurrent myocardial infarction(3.6%). No patient received re-revascularization.Coronary computed tomography angiography(CTA)was performed on all surviving patients 1 year after surgery, and the patency rate of vascular bridges was 100%.Conclusions:Both short-term and long-term clinical outcomes of OPCABG are fair in patients aged over 80 years with left ventricular dysfunction, but the mortality and risk of complications are still high, and comprehensive preoperative evaluation is needed for these patients.

Objective:To investigate the difference between the short-term and long-term survival rates of patients undergoing tricuspid valve replacement with biological and mechanical valves.Methods:273 patients who received tricuspid valve replacement were selected from our Hospital from November 1993 to August 2018. The mean follow-up time was(8.2±5.6) years. The total follow-up rate was 95%. Kaplan-Meier method was used to make survival curves of the two groups and log rank test was used to compare the differences between the two groups. In addition, this study made the comparison of preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative information and long-term survival rate between these two groups. Results:There was no significant difference in demographic characteristics and baseline between mechanical valve group and biological valve group. 16 patients died in the mechanical valve group and 22 in the biological valve group. In the mechanical valve group, 14 cases died of postoperative low cardiac output syndrome and 2 cases died of gastrointestinal hemorrhage. 22 patients were died of low cardiac output syndrome. The auxiliary time in the mechanical valve group was longer than that in the biological valve group[(151.76±70.30)min vs.(131.62±60.25)min, P=0.013)]. There was no significant difference in long-term survival rate between the two groups in Kaplan- Meier survival curve( P=0.234). Conclusion:There is no difference in short-term and long-term survival rate between mechanical valve and biological valve in tricuspid valve replacement.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the clinical effect of Liqi Kuanxiong Huoxue method LKH, traditional Chinese medicine, TCM therapeutic method for regulating qi, relieving chest stuffiness and promoting blood circulation) in treating patients with cardiac syndrome X (CSX).
METHODSThe prospective, non-randomized controlled study was conducted on 51 selected patients with CSX, who were non-randomly assigned to 2 groups, the treated group treated with LKH in addition to the conventional treatment (32 patients), and the control group treated with conventional treatment (19 patients) like nitrate, diltiazem hydrochloride, etc. The treatment course was 14 days. The changes of such symptoms as angina pectoris, TCM syndrome and indexes of treadmill exercise test before and after treatment were observed.
RESULTSAfter treatment, such symptoms as chest pain and stuffy feeling and palpitation in the treated group were improved more than those in the control group (P<0.05); the total effective rate on angina pectoris and TCM syndrome in the treated group was better than that in the control group (P<0.05). The treadmill exercise test showed that the maximal metabolic equivalent (Max MET), the time of angina onset and ST segment depression by 0.1 mV were obviously improved after treatment in both groups, but the improvement in the treated group was better than that in the control group respectively (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe LKH method could reduce the frequency of angina attacks and improve the clinical condition of patients with CSX.

OBJECTIVE: To understand the general awareness of the residents around a newly built nuclear power,to evaluate the safety and the attitude on the construction of nuclear power. METHODS: By the stratified random sampling method,1 029 general publics and 260 representatives were selected for investigation. The participants were from 30 km range around the nuclear power plant, each 5 km was assigned as 1 layer and there were total 6 layers. RESULTS: 74. 9%( 965 /1 289) interviewees were not aware of nuclear power,3. 1%( 40 /1 289) interviewees were well or very-well understand nuclear power. The awareness score of the general publics was lower than that of the representatives( 1. 0 vs3. 0,P < 0. 01); male, younger people, higher educational level, higher family income, religious people and living close to the nuclear power plant had higher awareness( P < 0. 05). A total of 28. 4%( 366 /1 289) interviewees considered the nuclear power was very safe or safe. The evaluation of nuclear power safety of the general publics was inferior to the representatives( P < 0. 05). The representatives, older people and those living far away from the nuclear power have better evaluation on the nuclear power safety than the general publics( P < 0. 05). Only 13. 0%( 167 /1 289) interviewees supported building the nuclear power in their residence construction; male, people with family members working in nuclear power plant, people with high degree of awareness on nuclear power, considered highly safety of the nuclear power had higher support for the local nuclear power construction( P < 0. 05). The interviewees who mostly believe about nuclear energy sources were experts, government officials, plant management and domestic media. CONCLUSION: Residents around the nuclear power plant had low awareness of the knowledge about nuclear power. Therefore,it is necessary to enhance the awareness of residents on nuclear power and the trust on the government.
