AIM: To examine COX-2 expression in esophageal carcinoma, and to study relationships between COX-2 expression and clinicopathological features and prognosis of esophageal carcinoma patients.METHODS: 89 paraffin-embedded tissue samples from patients with esophageal carcinoma were collected, its clinicopathological features such as tumour differentiation, depth of invasion, length and site of the tumor, regional lymph node metastases, distant metastasis were recorded.Survival time of 81 cases were also recorded.By SP immunohistochemistry method, the expression of COX-2 in tumor samples was examined.RESULTS: COX-2 expression in esophageal carcinoma was markedly higher than that in nomal esophagus, the expression was higher in less differentiated and deeper invaded cases(P0.05).Cases of esophageal carcinoma with lower COX-2 expression had longer survival time than those with higher COX-2 expression(P

Objective:To investigate the relationship between EGFR mutations and pulmonary tuberculosis in lung adenocarcino-ma. Methods:We detected EGFR mutations in 506 patients with lung adenocarcinoma by PCR amplification and sequencing and ana-lyzed the relationship between the mutations observed and pulmonary tuberculosis. Survival analysis was performed using the Ka-plan-Meier method with log-rank tests. Result:A total of 218 patients showed EGFR mutations;of these patients, 25 had a clinical his-tory of pulmonary tuberculosis. Compared with lung adenocarcinoma patients with no history of tuberculosis, patients with a history of pulmonary tuberculosis showed higher incidence rates of EGFR mutations, especially of exon 21 (P=0.047, P=0.002). Higher incidence rates of EGFR mutations, especially of exon 21, were observed in patients with lung cancer and tuberculosis in the same lobe or the same side of the lung than in those who had lung cancer and tuberculosis in opposite sides of the lung (P=0.02, P=0.03). Survival analy-sis showed that adenocarcinoma patients with a history of pulmonary tuberculosis have 2-year survival rates lower than that of adeno-carcinoma patients with no history of the disease (P=0.039). In patients adenocarcinoma associated with tuberculosis patients without EGFR-TKIs treatment, the 2-year survival rates of EGFR mutation patients and those without EGFR mutation showed no statistically significant difference (P=0.948). At the same time, we got the same results in adenocarcinoma associated with tuberculosis patients with EGFR-TKIs treatment (P=0.425). Conclusion:Lung adenocarcinoma patients with a history of pulmonary tuberculosis have high-er incidence rates of EGFR mutations, and EGFR mutations are not related to disease prognosis.

Chinese Journal of Pathophysiology 1986;0(01):-
AIM: To investigate the expression of MAT1 protein in pancreatic cancers and the relationship between MAT1 and clinicopathological features of pancreatic cancers. METHODS: 94 surgical specimens, including 70 pancreatic cancers, 10 pancreatic benign tumors, 14 chronic pancreatitis and 10 autopsy normal pancreas tissues, were analyzed immunohistochemically, and then MAT1 expression and clinicopathological features were compared. RESULTS: MAT1 was expressed mainly in the cancer cells, and also in the fibroblasts, where it was localized within the cytoplasm and nuclear envelope. MAT1 expression was found in 75.7% (53/70) of the cancers, but not detected or weakly expressed in control tissues. There was a significant difference in expression of MAT1 among the above four tissues (P

Chinese Journal of Postgraduates of Medicine 2014;37(11):45-47
Objective To investigate the clinical manifestations and MR imaging features of olivopontocerebellar atrophy(OPCA).Methods The clinical data and MR findings of 8 patients with OPCA (OPCA group) were retrospectively analyzed, and 75 cases of healthy physical examination people were chosen as control group (they were divided into 21-30 years group,31-40 years group,41-50 years group,51-60 years group,61-70 years group, and 15 cases in each group),all subjects under went pons measurement. Results All 8 patients with OPCA were sporadic cases. The cerebellar symptom, autonomic symptoms and extrapyramidal symptoms were common manifestations. The head MR imaging of OPCA presented with cerebellum and brain stem atrophy, cross sign was the characteristic appearance.Vertical diameter and anteroposterior diameter of the pons in OPCA group patients was (20.63 ± 2.16) and (16.74 ±4.37) mm,compared with control group [(27.14 ±1.73) and (22.28 ± 1.49) mm],there was significant difference (P < 0.01).In control group, vertical diameter and anteroposterior diameter of the pons maximum in 21-30 years group and 31-40 years group, increased with age,the value had been reduced, but there was no significant difference (P > 0.05).Conclusion MR is the first choice for the diagnosis of OPCA,combine with clinical manifestations may improve the diagnostic accuracy.

Objective To evaluate the effect of the endotracheal tube (ETT) depth on the efficacy of bronchial blocker when used for one-lung ventilation. Methods Sixty patients of both sexes, aged 46-78 yr,weighing 48-85 kg,with body mass index<30 kg/m2,scheduled for elective thoracotomy requiring one-lung ventilation, were divided into 2 groups (n =30 each) using a random number table:the distance between the tip of ETT and the carina was 3 cm group (group Ⅰ) and the ETT cuff was placed at 2 cm below the glottis group (group Ⅱ).The bronchial blocker was inserted under the guidance of a fiberoptic bronchoscope. The ETT depth, time to bronchial blocker position, development of bronchial blocker displacement and increase in airway peak pressure, degree of lung collapse, severity of postoperative tracheal mucous membrane injury and development of sore throat and hoarseness were recorded. Results Compared with group Ⅰ,the ETT depth was significantly shallower, the time to bronchial blocker position was shortened, postoperative tracheal mucous membrane injury was attenuated (P<0.05 or 0.01),and no significant change was found in the incidence of bronchial blocker displacement and increase in airway peak pressure, degree of lung collapse or incidence of sore throat and hoarseness in group Ⅱ (P>0.05).Conclusion The ETT depth the ETT cuff placed at 2 cm below the glottis can improve the efficacy of bronchial blocker when used for one-lung ventilation.

Objective To investigate the lung CT findings in patients with primary Sj(o)gren's syndrome (pSS) and clinical significance. Methods Images of lung CT scans of 68 patients with pSS were retrospectively observed. The distribution characteristics of lung lesions were observed.CT visual score were used to quantitatively analyze lung lesions.Binary classification unconditional logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the relationship between pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and anti-SSB seropositivity in Patients with pSS.Results The 68 cases of patients with pSS,PAH in 13 (19%),anti-SSB seropositivity in 25(37%),CT shows normal in 13 (19%),interlobular septal thickening,ground-glass opacity and intralobular interstitial thickening were frequent findings. The lesion distribution was in the peripheral and lower lung fields.Interlobular septal thickening and cysts were associated with PAH in Patients with pSS (OR=1.780,2.513,P<0.05),cysts was significantly associated with anti-SSB seropositivity (OR =10.530,P<0.05).Conclusion Lung CT can quantitatively analyze the degree of pSS lung damage, and provide helps for clinical treatment and prognosis.
