[Summary] A selection of 528 unrelated subjects were enrolled(198 males, 330 females) with the mean age of(52. 23 ± 13. 41) years old. According to body mass index, 253 persons belonged to the normal weight group and 275 persons overweight/ obesity group. A total of 10 SNPs in CIDEB and CIDEC genes were detected. SHEsis online were used to get the haplotypes of these two genes. The relationship between above SNPs and obesity were analyzed under additive inheritance pattern. The main effects and interaction on obesity induced by two genes’ haplotypes were analyzed by logistic regression. rs2144493 in CIDEB gene was associated with obesity, C was a protective alleles, OR (95% CI) equals 0. 722(0. 525-0. 992). CCTT haplotype of CIDEB gene carriers and GCG haplotype of CIDEC gene carriers were more prone to obesity or overweight, there was an interaction between the haplotypes of 2 genes. CIDEB, CIDEC haplotypes may play independent and interactive roles in causing obesity.

To study the level of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) in serum and the expression of MIF mRNA in abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue, and to investigate its impact on insulin resistance and islet β-cell dysfunction in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).120 pregnancy women from the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University Medical College and Taian Central Hospital were enrolled, including 60 GDM women and 60 women with normal glucose tolerance (NGT).The serum MIF in GDM group was higher than that of NGT group [(3.58±1.02 vs 1.23±0.62) ng/ml,P<0.01].Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that body mass index was an independent affective factor of the serum levels of MIF (r2 =0.516).The serum levels of MIF and the expressions of MIF mRNA in abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue were significantly higher in GDM group than NGT group.MIF may contribute to insulin resistance and β-cell dysfunction in GDM.Body mass index seems to be an independent factor in affecting the serum levels of MIF.

Objective To establish C6 glioma model in rat brain and to study its biological behavior(such as the incidence of tumor development, the process of cell invasion pathological characteristics of C6 and neoangiogenesis, the spontaneous regression of experimental gliomas and the best experimental time window). Methods C6 tumor cells and DMEM were implanted into the right caudate of 50 male Wistar rats. 9 rats implanted DMEM is the control group. The animals were examined by MRI and pathological staining at postoperative day (POD) 3, 7, 14, 21,28, 35, and 50. Matrix metalloproteinases-2 (MMP-2) and CD31 immunohistochemistry staining were used to study the histopathological features of the developed tumor. Methodology, physical findings and biological behavior were also discussed. Results 45 Wistar rats survived after surgery and tolerated MRI procedures well. On POD 7, there was a focal signal at the implantation site. The C6 cells sprout to the surroundings along the nerve fiber. During the day 14~28, the tumor exhibited a marked increase in size with focal mass effect, and immunohistochemical-staining shows MMP-2 and CD31 is overexpression; C6 cells were aggregated and blood brain barrier were destroyed greatly. Most of the tumor bearing rats died within 30 days. But, C6 cells in the two rats retrogress spontaneously after more leucocytes rounded 28 days. HE staining shows tumors. Conclusion The characteristics of rat C6 brain tumor model mimicked the human tumor with respect to its development, progression, and invasion. Although, part of C6 tumor spontaneously regressed, it is a useful animal model of glioblastoma for pre-clinical evaluation of various therapeutic strategies for the management of glioblastoma. The best experimental time window is 14 to 28 days.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of combination of Epimedii Folium and Ligustri Lucidi Fructus on osteoporosis rats induced by retinoic acid.
METHODSixty three-month-old male Wistar rats were randomly divided into the normal control group, the model group, the Epimedii Folium group, the Ligustri Lucidi Fructus group, the combination group of Epimedii Folium and Ligustri Lucidi Fructus and the raloxifene group. The osteoporosis model was established through oral administration with retinoic acid for two weeks. Meanwhile, all of treatment groups were administered with corresponding drugs for three weeks. The contents of serum calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), alkaline phosphatase (AKP) and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (StrACP) were detected, and the pathomorphological changes of femurs were observed.
RESULTThe model control group showed much lower contents of serum Ca and P than the normal control group, but with significantly higher AKP and StrACP activity than the normal control group. The femoral head area showed reduced, narrow and sparse trabecular bones, with typical osteoporosis-like changes. Compared with the model control group, all of treated groups showed significant increase in Ca and P contents in serum, and down-regulate AKP and StrACP levels, while trabecular bones became more and wider, and densely interweaved as a reticular formation. Among them, the combination group showed the most significant effect.
CONCLUSIONEpimedii Folium and Ligustri Lucidi Fructus could effectively correct the abnormal bone metabolism and improve pathological conditions of bone tissues, so as to show the anti-osteoporosis effect. The combined application of the two drugs showed a better efficacy.

Objective To investigate the expression of CXCR7 in gastric carcinoma tissues and the role of CXCR7 in tumor growth, adhesion and invasion of gastric cancer. Methods The expression levels of CXCR7, Survivin, CD44v6 and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-3 were detected by immunnohistochemistry method in gastric cancer specimens came from 160 patients (gastric cancer group) and 30 specimens of normal gastric tissues (control group). Results The expression of CXCR7 protein was significantly higher in gastric cancer group than that of control group (P<0.05). The positive CXCR7 staining was significantly different with tumor size, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and clinical staging ( P<0.05). CXCR7 expression was positively correlated with Survivin, CD44v6 and MMP-3. Conclusion CXCR7 might take part in progression of gastric cancer by anti-apoptosis (Survivin). CXCR7 might take part in the lymph node metastasis of gastric cancer and mediate the adhesion and invasion by CD44v6 and MMP-3.
