As a new interdisciplinary course, the current paper writing course for medical postgraduates exhibits certaln disadvantages. For example, the course does not well target the learners' needs because of the absence of the needs analysis before class;English or biomedical teachers fall to combine English with medicine, thus unable to provide ideal courses. As textbooks are an important means to improve the quality of the course, one way to reform the course is to compile high-quality textbooks by interdisciplinary talents. Meanwhile, the compiling process should be guided by needs analysis as well as the teaching and editing experiences. In addition, the textbooks need to be con-tinuously improved in teaching practice.

Obesity is becoming a chronic epidemic worldwide. Persistent obesity, in addition to triggering changes in skeletal muscle function and structure, may also lead to the occurrence of skeletal muscle atrophy, that maybe associate with autophagy and ubiquitin protea-some, interleukin-6, leptin, adiponectin, interleukin-10, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, growth hormone, angiotensin II, glucocorticoid, ad-vanced glycation end-product and myostatin, etc.

Medical English is an indispensible tool subject for medical students.However,the limited in-class teaching hours fail to provide adequate opportunities for students to participate in a diversity of subject-based tasks to practice medical English.Therefore,extracurricular activities serve as a complement to in-class teaching.Moreover,the features of extracurricular activities conform to those of Content-based instruction ( CBI),a teaching mode adopted in the teaching of ESP ( English for special purposes).The specific forms of extracurricular activities can be designed based on need analysis to cultivate the students' language competence in communicating biomedicine in Medical English.

The course of medical English fundamental reading carefully chooses reading materials from original English medical textbooks as the course materials, aiming at imparting the skills for reading biomedical English literature, and meeting the reading needs of medical undergraduates. In conducting this course, formative assessment is adopted, the frame of which is the theoretical model developed by Professor Wen Qiufang. There are three key phases in this model: setting up goals, eliciting learning evidence, and providing feedback. Three ways are employed to assess the course (symposium records, reflective journals and quizzes), which confirms that this model of formative assessment has improved the effectiveness of the course.

The language of English medical papers should be accurate, precise, clear and objective. Unfamiliar with these features and influenced by mother tongue, Chinese authors are prone to use unnecessary words, subjective expressions and long and confusing sentences, etc. To avoid those mistakes, they are suggested to practice a lot, keep a good reading habit and equip themselves with necessary searching skills, etc.

Objective To stuay the serum levels of sCD40L,hsCRP,ICAM-1 and VCAM-1,and the expression of CD40L of the CD4+T cells in patients withacute coronary syndrome(ACS),and to explore the relationship between CD40L and inflammatory factors and the effects of CD40/CD40L on ACS.Method Thirty-two coronary heart disease patients without history of other discernible systemic disease and medicine of steroids or immunosuppressants taken were divided into acute myocardial infarction group(AMI,n=11),unstable angina pectoris group(USP,n=14)and stable angina pectoris group(SAP,n=7).The control group was composed of eight healthy volunteers(CON group).Theexpression of CD40L Was determined by flow cytometry(FCM).Serum sCD40L.ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 were determined by using ELISA.The serum hsCRP was assayed by using immunoturbidimetry.Data were analyzed with SPSS 11.0 software for windows.Results The expression percentage(%)of CD40L of the CD4+T cells,and the serum levels of sCD40L,hsCRP,ICAM-1 and VCAM-1were sifnificantly higher in patients of AMI group than those in patients of other groups(P＜0.05 or P＜0.01).Similarly,those biomarkers in patients of UAP group were usually higher than those in patients of CON or SAP groups(P＜0.05).There Was a positive correlation between the expression of CD40L and the serum level of VCAM-1 in paients of AMI group(P＜0.05),and likewise,a positive correlation also existed between the serum level of sCD40L and other factors,hsCRP,ICAM-1 as well as VCAM-1,in patients of AMI group(P＜0.05).Conclusions The enhanced expression of CD40L of the CD4+T cells and high serum level of sCD40L are present in patients with acute coronary syndrome.The hsCRP,ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 play roles in the pathogenesis of ACS,and they have correlation with enhanced expression of CD40L and high serum level of sCD40L.Therefore,CD40L and sCD40L may be used as indicators of risk in coronary heart disease.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of three different impression methods on the marginal fit of all-ceramic crowns. The three methods include scanning silicone rubber impression, cast models, and direct optical impression.

METHODSThe polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) material of a mandibular first molar in standard model was prepared with 16 models duplicated. The all-ceramic crowns were prepared using three different impression methods. Accurate impressions were made using silicone rubber, and the cast models were obtained. The PMMA models, silicone rubber impressions, and cast models were scanned, and digital models of three groups were obtained to produce 48 zirconia all-ceramic crowns with computer aided design/computer aided manufacture. The marginal fit of these groups was measured by silicone rubber gap impression. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 17.0 software.

RESULTSThe marginal fit of direct optical impression groups, silicone rubber impression groups, cast model groups was (69.18±9.47), (81.04±10.88), (84.42±9.96) µm. A significant difference was observed in the marginal fit of the direct optical impression groups and the other groups (P<0.05). No statistically significant difference was observed in the marginal fit of the silicone rubber impression groups and the cast model groups (P>0.05).

CONCLUSIONAll marginal measurement sites are clinically acceptable by the three different impression scanning methods. The silicone rubber impression scanning method can be used for all-ceramic restorations.

Objective To study curative effect of edaravone on acute severe brain injury through the observation of neuron-specific enolase( that is:NSE) changes.Methods 60 severe brain injury patients were randomly assigned into the treatment group (n=30 ) and the control group (n=30).Besides the routine treatment,edaravone was used in the treatment group for 7 days.The control group received the same treatment except edaravone.NSE were measured in the two groups before the treatment and at 1st,3rd,5th,7th day after the treatment.GCS was evaluated at 21 days.Results Compared the NSE before treatment and after three days,they had significant difference(P＜0.05,also between the two groups and the GCS after 21 days.they had no significant adverse drug reactions during the two groups of patients with medication.Conclusion Edaravone for patients with severe brain injury has a better treatment effect,medication safety,fewer adverse reactions from the mechanism of NSE at acute phase.

Objecfive To study the influence of edaravone therapy on semm levels of neuronspecific enolase (NSE)in the patients of severe brain trauma and assess the therapic effect of edaravone.Method Sixty patients of severe brain trauma were randomly assigned into the treatment group(n=30)and the control group(n=30).Besides the routine treatment in both groups.edaravone Was only used in the treatment group.NSE levels were measured in the two groups before treatment and at 1st,3rd,5th,7th day after treatment.Results NSE levels before treatment in treatment group and control group were(48.73±30.46)μg/L and (40.86±22.05)μg/L,respectively,there Was no statistical significance between two groups.NSE levels after treatment at 3rd,5th,7th day in the two groups were(34.16±15.08),(29.86±12.61),(29.93±14.77)μg/L and (27.42±10.07),(22.33±8.93),(21.17±9.67)μg/L,respectively,there were statistical significances between two groups and in the same group (P＜ 0.05 or ＜ 0.01 ). With the time of therapy extended,NSE levels declined progressively. There were no significant adverse drug reactions during the treatment period. Conclusions The influence of edaravone therapy on serum levels of NSE in the patients of severe brain trauma is significant,edaravone for patients with severe brain trauma has a better curative effect ,medication safety,and fewer adverse drug reactions during acute phase.
