Objective To evaluate the clinical significance of measuring IL-13 in serum and dynamics of pulmonary function in infants with bronchiolitis. Methods A total of 50 infants with bronchiolitis(30 in acute phase,20 in recovery phase) and 20 infants in healthy controls were recruited into this study.IL-13 level in serum were detected with Sandwich enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA),at the same time the object′s respiratory function were tested, then the above indexes were compared. Results The level of serum IL-13 in recovery phase of bronchiolitis was significantly lower than that in acute phase of bronchiolitis and those of both 2 groups were significantly higher than that in control group(all P0.05).Conclusions IL-13 plays a role in pathogenesis in infants with bronchiolitis. The reduction of level of IL-13 will contribute to recovery of infants with bronchiolitis.During the acute phase of bronchiolitis higher resistance can be seen.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common chronic liver diseases. However, due to its complex pathogenesis, there are no officially approved drugs for NAFLD treatment currently. Therefore, it is extremely urgent to find safe and effective anti-NAFLD drugs. Nowadays, lipid-lowering drugs are the main option for NAFLD therapy, but the clinical efficacy of chemical drugs is also very limited, as well as the frequent side effects or adverse reactions. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has attracted more and more attention in the treatment of NAFLD due to its unique advantages through multiple targets and pathways with few side effects. In recent years, numerous studies have demonstrated that the imbalance of gut microbiota plays an important role in the occurrence and development of NAFLD. This review systematically summarizes the experimental and clinical evidences of TCM active compounds and TCM prescription involved in the regulation of intestinal flora in the treatment of NAFLD in recent years, so as to provide a reference for further exploring the pathogenesis of NAFLD and exploring TCM treatment methods.

The aim of this study is to evaluate anti-tumor activities and mechanism of a novel kinase inhibitor ZLJ213 which targeted Aurora A and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) in vitro and in vivo against human colon cancer. Results showed that ZLJ213 inhibited cell proliferation and induced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of HCT1 16 and SW48 cell lines. In HCT116-derived xenograft, ZLJ213 dosed at 100 mg · kg(-1) inhibited tumor growth by 73.24%. The IC50 of ZLJ213 on the expression of p-Aurora A was 0.258 µmol · L(-1) analyzed by ELISA. Under the concentration of 0.08 µmol · L(-1), ZLJ213 could inhibit the activities of Aurora A, Histone H3 and VEGFR of HCT116 and SW48 cell lines. Simultaneously, ZLJ213 induced activation of Caspase 3 and PARP cleavage. Above data suggested that ZLJ213 had the ability to inhibit cell proliferation and induce cell apoptosis both in vitro and in vivo in colon cancer, and down-regulate the expression of p-Aurora A and p-VEGFR. ZLJ213 might be a potential therapeutic agent against colon cancer.

Objective:Establish mass-scale purification technology of cell-derived influenza virus. Methods: A microcarrier-based process was used to produce human influenza virus in serum free-adapted Vero cells. The virus was purified in a sequence of downstream processing steps including inactivation, clarification, anion exchange chromatography, affinity chromatography and size-exclusion chromatography. Results: The recovery of HA reached 102%. 95.3% total protein, including 99.77% host cell protein, and 99.99% host cell DNA were removed during downstream processing. Conclusion: Providing a high effective purification technology for cell-derived influenza virus.

Objective To observe the renal lesion caused by aristolochia manshuriensis kom(AMK) through 2 infants who had used AMK before hospitalization.Method Retrospecting the 2 cases of infants caused by AMK from 2002 to 2003,and evaluating their pathogenesis, treatment, and prognosis.Result Two infants both presented with symptoms of acute renal failure(ARF),and poor outcome. Conclusions Renal lesion in infant caused by AMK is serious. Some medcines, such as glucocorticosteroid, may be useful for its treatment and prognosis.

Objective To explore the pathogenesis and prognosis of acute renal insufficiency in children.Method The pathogensis, clinical manifestation, treatment and prognosis retrospected and discussed by analysis of the clinical features of 34 children with acute renal insufficiency hospitalized in 2002-2005.Results Of 34 children, there were 15 females and 19 males, the age range from 16 days to 15.5 years old.Among pathogenesis of acute renal insufficiency, primary glomerular diseases occupied 35.3% and drug-induced acute renal insufficiency occupied about 29.4%.The mortality of drug-induced acute renal insufficiency was 20% of and about 30%(deve-)loped chronic renal insufficiency was 30%.Conclusions Primary glomerular diseases rank the dominant causes of acute renal insufficiency, while drug-induced acute renal insufficiency has poor prognosis. So it is important to treat primary glomerular diseases in early stage and emphasize the side effect of drugs to kidney.

A series of novel sorafenib analogues were designed and synthesized. The cytotoxic activities of these compounds were tested in four tumor cell lines. Some of the compounds showed potent antiproliferative activity against the tested cell lines with IC50 = 4-20 micromol x L(-1). Some compounds demonstrated competitive antiproliferative activities to sorafenib against tested cancer cell lines. Among them, compound 7c demonstrated significant inhibitory activities on ACHN, HCT116 and MDA-MB-231 cell lines with IC50 values of 9.01, 4.97, 6.61 micromol x L(-1), respectively.

Chinese Journal of Medical Aesthetics and Cosmetology 2009;15(3):167-169
Objective In order to cure some patients with the following characteristics which appear only when smiling: elevation and shortening of the upper lip, a transverse furrow below the co-lumella, and increased exposure of the maxillary gums, we reported a new surgical procedure to cor-rect this deformities. Methods By means of a transfixion incision extended laterally along the vestibu-lar or the upper gingivolabial sulcus incision, part of the depressor septi and orbicularis muscle were excised, and extensive separation were made to lower the upper lip. Results 27 cases of short upper lip were treated. Among the total, the transfixion incisions were made in 9 cases, and the upper gingi-volabial sulcus incisions were made in 18 cases. These procedures achieved lowering the upper lip, lighting or disappearing the transverse furrow, and covering the exaggerated exposure of the gums when patients smiled. At the same time the rhinoplasties were done in 6 cases. Through the above-mentioned we were able to correct the deformities on rhino-gingivolabial part only when the faces moved, achieved some kind of beauty for patients, and obtained satisfactory results. Conclusions Some patients have added defects .that are exported only when they begin to make facial movements. The cause of these characteristics is hypertrophy of the depressor septi nasi muscles. We describe the technique that is not only to correct the defects but also to enhance the patient's smile. It is worth to recommend for clinical application.
