To improve the precision of image registration based on corner detection, a relative position function between multiple points to determine matching points accurately. First the corners in images are detected using Harris detector, and clustering method is used to eliminate most wrong matches after coarse screening. Then the proposed relative position function is used as a criterion of precise matching. Finally the image registration process is accomplished by affine transformation. Results show that the proposed algorithm is more effective and accurate than conventional registration algorithm.

Objective To investigate the regulatory effect of transforming growth factor-? 1 (TGF-? 1)on the proliferation and apoptosis of human prostatic epithelial cells in vitro. Methods The primary culture was prepared by collagenase dissociation of minced prostatic tissue obtained from 8 BPH patients (53 to 70 of age) on open prostatectomy and from 5 organ donors (23 to 36).Cells were cultured in serum free prostate epithelial cell growth media and identified by immunocytochemical studies. The cells were passaged and cultured in media free of bovine pituitary extract and EGF and TGF-? 1 and EGF in different doses were then added either alone or in combination according to experimental requirement. The rate of cell proliferation was assessed by counting the cell number and by 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (ELISA).Apoptosis induced by TGF-? 1 was examined by in situ transferase-mediated dUTP nick and labeling. Results The cultured cells had the typical morphological features of epithelium and stained positive for PSA and Pan-Keratin.The cells from normal prostates of young donors showed more mitogenic activity than those from BPH prostates.EGF enhanced cell proliferation whereas TGF-? 1 inhibited cell proliferation which could be reversed by increasing concentration of EGF.TGF-? 1 induced apoptosis of human prostatic epithelial cells. The effect of TGF-? 1 and EGF was concentration dependent. Conclusions TGF-? 1 is a direct physiological regulator of cell proliferation and cell apoptosis of human prostatic epithelial cells.

Objective To investigate the effect of TGF ? 1 and EGF on the proliferation of cultured human prostatic epithelial cells. Methods The primary culture was prepared by collagenase digestion of minced prostatic tissue obtained from prostatectomies of 8 benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) patients (aged 53 to 70) and 5 organ donors (aged 23 to 36). Cells were cultured in serum free prostatic epithelial cell growth media and identified by immunocytochemical method. The cells were passaged and cultured in media without bovine pituitary extract (BPE) and then, EGF and TGF ? 1 with different concentration were added into the culture either alone or in combination according to the experimental protocol. The cell proliferation was assessed by counting the cell number (BrdU) and ELISA. Results Cultured cells showed typical morphological features of epithelium and stained positive for PSA and Pan Keratin. After 5 7 passages cells went senescence. BPE and EGF enhanced whereas TGF ? 1 inhibited the cell proliferation and the inhibition was reversed by increasing the concentrations of EGF. The effect of both TGF ? 1 and EGF displayed concentration dependent manner. Conclusions Cell proliferation of the cultured human prostatic epithelial cells could be modulated by TGF ? 1 and EGF. These results indicated that TGF ? 1 and EGF, as the negative and positive growth factors might play an important role in the pathogenesis of BPH.

Objective: Surfactant protein A (SP-A) is protein that appears to play an important role in mammalian first-line host defense. The objective of this study was to immunolocalize SP-A in human sinonasal tissue. Method:Eleven cases of allergic rhinitis, fifteen cases of polyp and seven cases of normal middle turbinate were studied with immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence method to detect the expression of SP-A. Result:The expression of SP-A in allergic rhinitis and polyp were dramatically higher than that in controls(P<0.05), and there was no remarkable difference in the expression of SP-A between allergic rhinitis and polyp(P>0.05). The result demonstrated that SP-A was positivly correlated with eosinophils within the basement membrane of epitheli-um(R=0.81,0.55). In the result of immunofluorescence, there was significantly higher expression SP-A in nasal mucosa of allergic rhinitis and nasal polyp than that in control group(P<0.05). Conclusion:SP-A is likely to play key roles in the inflammatory reaction process of allergic rhinitis and polyp. Its secretion in the upper airway indicates that future studies may allow manipulation of this protein and development of novel treatments for sinonasal pathology.

OBJECTIVE To study the significance by analyzing the expression of human protection of telomeres1(POT1)and telomeric repeatbinding factor-2(TRF2)in the tissues of laryngneal squamous cell carcinoma(LSCC)and in polyp of vocal cord tissues. METHODS The expression of POT1 and TRF2 in 20 tumor samples and 19 polyp of vocal cord were determined by the indirect immunofluorescence method. The results were scored and analyzed statistically. RESULTS The positive expression rates of POT1 and TRF2 in tumor samples was 65.00% and 70.00% respectively. There were no positive expression of POT1 and TRF2 in polyp of vocal cord. The positive expression of POT1 was higher in poorly differentiated laryngeal carcinoma than that in well-differentiated and moderately differentiated laryngeal carcinoma(Chi-square test with contingency table, P0.05). CONCLUSION The expression of POT1 and TRF2 in laryngneal squamous cell carcinoma were remarkable, POT1 and TRF2 may play a critical role in tumorigenesis of laryngneal squamous cell carcinoma. There was statistical significant difference for degrees of POT1 expression in different tumor histological grades.
