Object To study the chemical constituents of Stelmatocrypton khasianum (Benth.) H. Baill.. Methods Some constituents were isolated by chromatographic methods and identified by physicochemical constants and their structures were elucidated by spectral data. Results Seven compounds were isolated from the stem of S. khasianum and their structures were identified as ?-sitosterol-3-O-?-D-glucoside-6′-O-eicosanate (Ⅰ), 2?, 3?, 23-trihydroxy-olean-12-ene-28-oic acid (Ⅱ), 2?, 3?, 23-trihydroxy-urs-12-ene-28-oic acid (Ⅲ), ?-sitosterol-3-O-?-D-glucoside (Ⅳ), stearic acid (Ⅴ), glucose (Ⅵ), and sucrose (Ⅶ) respectively. Conclusion All compounds were obtained from this plant for the first time, and compound I is new.

BACKGROUND: Spherical Toric intraocular lens can effectively correct the preoperative astigmatism of cataract patients, but it is unclear whether the aspheric Toric lens is better than the spherical Toric lens to improve the quality of vision. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the optical quality after implantation of aspheric toric intraocular lens in cataract surgery. METHODS: Seventy-three cataract patients with corneal astigmatism (80 eyes) were enrol ed, including 37 males and 36 females, aged 47-83 years. Among them, 36 cases were implanted with aspheric Toric intraocular lens (test group), and the other 37 cases were implanted with spherical Toric intraocular lens (control group). Postoperative examinations were performed at 3 months, including axial intraocular lens, uncorrected visual acuity, corrected visual acuity, residual astigmatism, contrast sensitivity, and wavefront aberration. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Three months after implantation, the axial view, uncorrected visual acuity, corrected visual acuity and residual astigmatism showed no differences between the two groups; no shape deviation and lens decentration occurred; there was no case required to remove the lens or subjected to secondary adjustment. In the test group, the moderate and high spatial frequency contrast sensitivity at the scotopic or scotopic glare state was significantly higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05), the total higher order aberrations and spherical aberrations at a pupil diameter of 5.0 mm and spherical aberration at a pupil diameter of 3.0 mm were significantly less than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Additional y, there were no differences in scattering index, cut-off frequency of the modulation transfer function, Strehl ratio and visual acuity at 9%, 20% and 100% contrast between the two groups. These findings indicate that the aspheric and spherical toric intraocular lenses have similar effects in improving the astigmatism and raising the uncorrected visual acuity, but the former one is superior to the latter one in improving scotopic vision, and total higher order aberrations and spherical aberrations.

Objective To explore the effect of multiple-formed nursing teaching ward-round.Methods Trainings and practices about muhiple-formed nursing teaching ward-round were executed to clinical instruction teachers.Results 95.9%of nursing students were satisfied with the quality of nursing teaching ward-round.After training ang practices,the evaluation to the nursing teaching ward-round and the scores of theoretic and operation examination of nursing students raised significantly(P＜0.05).Conclusions The trainings and practices improve the teachers' ability of utilizing multiple-formed nursing teaching ward-round,which not only enhance the students' study initiative,but also improve the query of nursing teaching teaching ward-round.

Objective To explore the role of problem-based learning(PBL) nursing ward round on critical thinking capacity of nurses from surgical departments. Methods All nurses from surgical depart-ments were randomly divided into the experimental group(86 nurses) and the control group(85 nurses) by drawing lots. Objects from the experimental group received PBL nursing ward round training twice a week for 8 months, while those from the control group used the traditional nursing ward round training. The influ-ence of the different teaching methods on the critical thinking capacity of the nurses was assessed before and after the training, using critical thinking disposition inventory-Chinese version (CTDI-CV). Results Total critical thinking capacity was improved significantly in the experimental group after the training. All sorts of critical thinking characteristics were strengthened in different degree. Conclusions PBL nursing ward round training can effectively facilitate the critical thinking capacity of surgical nurses.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of an acne-clearing device in treating acne vulgaris.Methods A bicenter,randomized,single-blinded,placebo-controlled,parallel-group study was conducted.Seventy-three patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris were enrolled for the trial.Two similar,clinically matched inflammatory papules were selected from each patient,and divided into a test group and a control group to be treated with an acne-clearing device with an output temperature of 46-50 ℃ and a control device without heat source respectively,for three sessions with the interval varying from 1 to 12 hours between the first two sessions and from 18 to 48 hours between the last two sessions.Every treatment lasted three minutes.Lesional color and size were recorded before and on day 1,5 and 14 after the first treatment.Side effects were also recorded for the evaluation of safety.Results Clinical improvement was observed in 66 (90.4％),73 (100.0％) and 72 (98.6％) patients,and marked improvement in 27 (37.0％),64 (87.7％) and 72 (98.6％) patients on day 1,5 and 14 after the first treatment,respectively.Significant differences existed between the control and test group in improvement rate on day 1 and 5,and in marked improvement rate on all the three time points (all P ＜ 0.01).The average time taken for erythematous swelling to begin to subside and time for lesions to completely heal were 19.51 hours and 7.15 days respectively in the test group,significantly shorter than those in the control group by 82.41 hours and 5.07 days respectively.Conclusions The acne-clearing device proves to be effective and safe for the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris,which can rapidly relieve the inflammation in acne,shorten the time required for erythematous swelling to subside and for lesions to completely heal.

Objective To study the effects of eliminating free radical and increasing antioxidative capacity of glutathione peroxidase 1(GPX1) on PC12 cells. MethodsGPX1 recombinant plasmid and Plncxplasmid were transfected into PC12 cells and PC12 cells highly-expressing GPX1 stably were sieved by G418 solution. PC12 ceils were treated with different concentrations of amyloid β-protein (Aβ25-35) for 48 h, to decide the optimal concentration of Aβ25-35 and construct ideal cell model. GPX1/pLNCX/PC12 group, pLNCX/ PC12 group and PC12 group were treated with optimal concentration of Aβ25-35 ,respectively for 48 h, and their absorbance (A) value by MTT conversion was compared among three groups.ResultsCell clone highly expressing GPX1 stably were obtained by G418 selection. The increment of cell inhibition ratio was 24.7 ％ after 20 μmol/L Aβ25-35 treatment for 48 h, compared with control group (P＜0.01). Thus the optimization concentration of Aβ25-35 was 20 μmol/L. After treatment with 20 μmol/L for 48 h, the A value was significantly higher in GPX1/pLNCX/PC12 group than in pLNCX/ PC12 group and in PC12 cells group(0.53±0. 02 vs. 0.44±0.02;0.53±0.02 vs. 0.39±0.07, P＜0.01). Conclusions Transfection of GPX1 recombinant plasmid may protect cell against injury from free radical and reverse the decrease of PC12 cell survival rate impaired by Aβ25-35.

Objective To assess the image quality of iterative model reconstruction algorithm (IMR) compared with hybrid iterative reconstruction algorithm (iDose4) for hypovascular hepatic metastases.Methods Medical history and pathological results of 33 cases with primary malignant tumor were retrospective analyzed.Follow-up with enhanced CT or enhanced MRI at more than 3 months confirmed hypovascular metastases in these patients.All patients underwent abdominal CT scanning and dynamic enhanced CT scanning.Portal vein phase of low dose scanning data were taken as the research object.According to the different tube currents and reconstruction algorithm,the images were divided into 4 groups.Group A included images with tube current of 175 mAs and IMR post-processing (17 cases).Group B included images with tube current of 175 mAs and iDose4 post-processing (17 cases).Group C included images with tube current of 125 mAs and IMR post-processing (16 cases).Group D included images with tube current of 125 mAs and iDose4 post-processing (16 cases).In the cases with multiple lesions,the largest lesion was selected to evaluate.For each image of the objective evaluation [including noise,the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR),contrast to noise ratio (CNR)] and subjective evaluation (including lesion sharpness,necrosis interface and diagnostic confidence).The CT dose index of each scanning was recorded.The objective evaluation,subjective evaluation indexes were compared by paired samples t test and Wilcoxon signed rank test.Results The tube current of Group A and Group B were (7.7± 1.8) and (12.8±3.7)HU,while CNR were 10.3 ±2.6 and 5.6± 1.4,SNR were 13.2±3.2 and 8.1 ± 2.2,and the differences were statistically significant (t values were 9.966,12.670,9.203;P＜0.01).The tube current of Group C and Group D were (7.2±1.3) and (9.9±1.8)HU,while CNR were 7.4±2.0 and 3.7±0.9,SNR were 13.9±2.9 and 9.8±1.9,and the differences were statistically significant (t values were 9.209,12.320,9.628;P＜0.01).The lesion sharpness score of Group A and Group B were 4.95±0.24 and 4.29±0.59,while the necrosis interface score were 4.76 ± 0.36 and 3.68 ± 0.30,diagnostic confidence score were 4.94± 0.24 and 4.44 ±0.56,and the differences were statistically significant (P＜0.05).The lesion sharpness score of Group C and Group D were 3.94±0.68 and 3.56±0.63,while the necrosis interface score were 3.91±0.64 and 3.03±0.50,diagnostic confidence score were 4.19±0.40 and 3.94±0.44,and the differences were statistically significant (P＜0.05).CTDIvol of 175 mAs group and 125 m As group were (11.83±0.28) and (8.44±0.24) mGy respectively.Conclusion Compared with iDose4,iterative reconstruction technology IMR significantly reduces the image noise and enhances image quality of hypovascular hepatic metastases.

To study the chemical constituents of Bauhinia glauca subsp. pernervosa, eleven phenolic acids were isolated from a 95% ethanol extract by using a combination of various chromatographic techniques including column chromatography over silica gel, ODS, MCI, Sephadex LH-20, and semi-preparative HPLC. By spectroscopic techniques including 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 2D NMR, and HR-ESI-MS, these compounds were identified as isopropyl O-beta-(6'-O-galloyl)-glucopyranoside (1), ethyl O-beta-(6'-O-galloyl)-glucopyranoside (2), 3, 4, 5-trimethoxyphenyl-(6'-O-galloyl)-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3), 3, 4, 5-trimethoxyphenyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside (4), gallic acid (5), methyl gallate (6), ethyl gallate (7), protocatechuic acid (8), 3, 5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxybenzoic acid (9), erigeside C (10) and glucosyringic acid (11). Among them, compound 1 is a new polyhydroxyl compound; compounds 2, 10, and 11 were isolated from the genus Bauhinia for the first time, and the other compounds were isolated from the plant for the first time. Compounds 6 and 8 showed significant protein tyrosine phosphatase1B (PTP1B) inhibitory activity in vitro with the IC50 values of 72.3 and 54.1 micromol x L(-1), respectively.

Collagen α3 (IV) chains are one of the major constituent components of the basement membrane in the mammalian testis. Studies have shown that biologically active fragments, such as noncollagenase domain (NC1)-peptide, can be released from the C-terminal region of collagen α3 (IV) chains, possibly through the proteolytic action of metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9). NC1-peptide was shown to promote blood-testis barrier (BTB) remodeling and fully developed spermatid (e.g., sperm) release from the seminiferous epithelium because this bioactive peptide was capable of perturbing the organization of both actin- and microtubule (MT)-based cytoskeletons at the Sertoli cell-cell and also Sertoli-spermatid interface, the ultrastructure known as the basal ectoplasmic specialization (ES) and apical ES, respectively. More importantly, recent studies have shown that this NC1-peptide-induced effects on cytoskeletal organization in the testis are mediated through an activation of mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1/ribosomal protein S6/transforming retrovirus Akt1/2 protein (mTORC1/rpS6/Akt1/2) signaling cascade, involving an activation of cell division control protein 42 homolog (Cdc42) GTPase, but not Ras homolog family member A GTPase (RhoA), and the participation of end-binding protein 1 (EB1), a microtubule plus (+) end tracking protein (+TIP), downstream. Herein, we critically evaluate these findings, providing a critical discussion by which the basement membrane modulates spermatogenesis through one of its locally generated regulatory peptides in the testis.

Millettia nitida var.hirsutissima is a Chinese herbal medicine used for the treatment of gynecological diseases.An HPLC/DAD/ESI-MSn method was established for the rapid separation and characterization of bioactive flavonoids in M.nitida var.hirsutissima.A total of 32 flavonoids were detected,of which 14 compounds were unambiguously characterized by comparing their retention time,UV,and MS spectra with those of the reference standards,and the others were tentatively identified based on their tandem mass spectrometry fragmentation data obtained in the negative ionization mode on line.Nineteen of these compounds characterized were reported from this plant for the first time.
