Objective To observe ultrasonic manifestations of secondary intussusception (SI) in children. Methods Preoperative ultrasonic features of 125 children with histopathologically proved SI were retrospectively analyzed. Results Concentric circle sign in transverse section, sleeve sign in longitudinal section and abnormal mass echoes in intussusception loop were found in all 125 children. Low echo mass with small or round-shaped anechoic area was found in 28 children with juvenile polyps and 2 with juvenile polyposis syndrome. Wheel-like mass, radial distribution or high and low echo interphase were detected in 19 Peutz-Jeghers syndrome children, while cystic mass with thick wall showing "double ring" or "three ring" signs was found in 18 intestinal duplication children. Nodular changes or abnormal patterns of intestinal echo were observed in 17 children with Meckel's diverticulum. Obviously thick wall with rich blood supply was found in 11 children with allergic purpuras. Tubular hypoecho was detected in 6 appendicitis children. An extremely hypoechoic mass with abundant blood was noticed in 5 intestinal lymphoma children, while a mass of mixed echogenicity containing several small cystic areas was found in 2 ileal adenomyoma children. A mass echo was found in 2 lipoangioma children. A medium and high echo mass with low echo and anechoic area was found in 1 child with duodenal Brunner's gland adenoma. A mass with honeycomb microcystic margin was observed in 1 child with mesenteric lymphangio-cavernoma. A heterogeneous hypoechoic mass was found in 1 multiple polypoidal cavernous hemangioma child. A cystic mass with separation was found in 1 intestinal wall and mesentery vascular malformation child. An oval hypoechoic mass was detected in 1 child with low grade malignant angiogenic tumor. Thickened intestinal wall and lacked blood supply was found in 10 hemorrhagic necrotizing enterocolitis children. Conclusion Ultrasonography can be used to confirm original disease of SI in children, therefore provide important basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment of SI.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the characteristics of 24-hr ambulatory electrocardiography (DCG) of children with myocarditis and to study the clinical value of DCG in the diagnosis of childhood myocarditis.
METHODS24-hr DCG findings, including abnormal DCG rate, and number, grade and distribution of ventricular premature beat (PVC), as well as heart rate variability, from 59 children with myocarditis were retrospectively reviewed and compared with those detected in 41 children without heart disease.
RESULTS86.4% of patients with myocarditis showed abnormal DCG, and compound arrhythmia was commonly seen, but only 46.3% showed abnormal DCG (P < 0.01) and single arrhythmia was predominant in the control group. The number and grade of PVC/24 hrs were not significantly different between the two groups. Compared with the control group, the average pattern PVC was predominant in the myocarditis group (84.6% vs 48.7%; P < 0.05). Monopeak pattern PVC was mostly seen (64.4%), followed by multiple-peak pattern (25.4%) and bi-peak pattern (8.4%) in the myocarditis group, which were significantly different from the control group: monopeak pattern 53.6%, bi-peak pattern 36.6% and multiple-peak pattern 7.3% (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONSThe 24-hr DCG characteristics of children with myocarditis are different from the normal controls, suggesting 24-hr DCG monitoring is useful to the diagnosis of childhood myocaditis.

BACKGROUND:Neuroblastoma is a common solid tumor in children. Pediatric tumors are little affected by environmental factors, but closely related to child development. The suspension method is an effective and reliable method to harvest neoplastic stem cel s.
OBJECTIVE:To culture the cel clones of human neuroblastoma cel line SK-N-SH and to assess the biological properties of the cel clones.
METHODS:Using the suspension method with no serum media, tumor cel clones were obtained. Immunofluorescence method was used to identify whether tumor cel clones exhibit stem cel properties. SK-N-SH neuroblastoma was labeled by luciferase, and tumor cel clones and tumor cel s were seeded onto the back of nude mice to monitor cel proliferative properties in nude mice using in vivo imaging.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Using the suspension culture method, SK-N-SH neuroblastoma cel s could successful y develop into cloning bal s. Under serum-free culture, cloning bal s were immunofluorescently used to detect molecular markers that showed strong positive expression. Cloning bal s subcutaneously implanted into
nude mice showed the strong ability of self-renewal and differentiation as stem cel s. The cel clones cultured by the suspension method strongly expressed Nestin, but weakly expressed glial fibril ary acidic protein, neuron-specific tubulin, possessing stem cel characteristics and strong proliferation and metastasis in nude mice.
