Objective To investigate the antitumor activity of the procaspase-3 activator SM-1 in BGC-823 cells in vivo and in vitro and the mechanisms. Methods The inhibitory effects of SM-1 on proliferation of BGC-823 cells were evaluated using MTT method, the cell apoptosis rate was detected by flow cytometry, and the expression of caspase-3 protein and procaspase-3 mRNA was detected by Western blotting and RT-PCR, respectively.SM-1 Antitumor activity was evaluated using the xenograft of BGC-823 cells in nude mice. Results SM-1 effectively inhibited the proliferation in vitro and in-duced apoptosis of BGC-823 cells in a dose-dependent manner. After treatment with SM-1 for 48 h, the protein expression levels of caspase-3 and mRNA expression levels of procaspase-3 were increased.SM-1 significantly inhibited growth of BGC-823 xenograft tumor at the 300 mg/kg dose and the inhibition rate was 56.3%(P<0.05).Conclusion SM-1 can significantly inhibit the tumor growth of BGC-823 cells in vivo and in vitro. The mechanism is possibly related to the activation of procaspase-3 and induced apoptosis of tumor cells.

Objective By using lung sound spectrum analysis, the clinical efficacy of asthma -relieving manipulation, which is a gentle massage therapy mainly on the acupoints, on acute exacerbation of children asthma was evaluated. Methods We collected the lung sound of 11 children with acute asthmatic attack before and after asthma-relieving manipulation, and then input to the computer for obtaining lung sound spectrum signal data. The sound intensity, average respiratory muscle strength ( RMS) power, total RMS power and the volume of every 25 Hz frequency spectrum were extracted for comparison. Results After asthma-relieving manipulation, the sound intensity, average RMS power, and total RMS power of the children with acute asthmatic attack were significantly lower than those before the manipulation (P<0.01). The results of lung sound spectrum analysis displayed that lung sound volume was significantly lower at frequency band 0~300 Hz after manipulation ( P<0.05 compared with that before the manipulation) . The difference of the lung sound volume was insignificant over frequency band 300 Hz before and after treatment ( P>0.05). Conclusion Lung sound spectrum analysis can be applied to monitor lung function of asthmatic children objectively and quantitatively, and it is a new sensitive method for clinical detection. Asthma-relieving manipulation shows certain effect on acute exacerbation of children asthma.

Objective To determine the neuronal damage or loss and gliosis at the cellular level in spinocerebellar ataxia type 3/Machado-Joseph disease(SCA3/MJD), and evaluate the potential use of neuron-specific enolase (NSE) and protein S 100 B(S100B) serum concentrations as biochemical markers. Methods Serum concentrations of NSE and S100B were measured in 102 SCA3/MJD patients and 100 healthy subjects matched by sex and age. The correlations between both markers and age, age of onset, disease duration, CAG repeat size, scores of international cooperative ataxia rating scale(ICARS), and scale for the assessment and rating of ataxia(SARA) were analyzed. Results Compared with the healthy controls, patients with SCA3/MJD had higher NSE serum concentrations [(6.95±2.83)ng/mL vs (4.83±1.70) ng/mL, P<0.05] and higher S100B serum concentrations [(0.07±0.06) ng/mL vs (0.05±0.02) ng/mL, P<0.05]. In the SCA3/MJD patients group, NSE levels presented a positive correlation with age, disease duration, ICARS scores and SARA scores, whereas S100B levels did not correlate with age, age of onset, disease duration, ICARS scores and SARA scores. CAG repeat size did not correlate with the NSE levels and S100B levels in different age groups of SCA3/MJD patients. Conclusion Serum NSE might be a useful marker to monitor disease progression and represent the degree of severity of a certain disease. Elevated S100B serum concentrations in patients compared to healthy controls may suggest an application of this protein as a peripheral marker of brain impairment in SCA3/MJD.

Objective:
To understand cognitive behavioral responses of college students in Guangxi at the early stage of COVID-19 regarding, and to provide a basis for schools and government to formulate relevant strategies and measures.
Methods:
An anonymous questionnaire survey was conducted among 69 783 students recruited online from 28 colleges and universities in Guangxi Province, regarding psychological response under public health emergencies.
Results:
Significant associated were found between the total score of COVID-19 knowledge score and factors scores of optimism, fear, avoidance, help and combat in cognitive behavioral response (r=0.15, -0.01, -0.06, -0.03, 0.28, P<0.05). Gender factors had an impact on all the five factors (Z=-13.67, -2.05, -13.31, -7.15, -24.34, P<0.05). Students with higher education levels and medical students had higher score in optimism and lower score in avoidance.Students with limited activities (β=0.38, 0.38, 0.42, P<0.05) and living in a community with infected cases score higher in factor including fear, escape and turning for help (β=0.14, 0.06, 0.15,P<0.05).optimism was negatively associated with fear among students living in a community with infected cases(β=-0.10,P<0.05).
Conclusion
Relevant departments need to strengthen science popularization and education, further improve students’ awareness of the epidemic, take scientific prevention and control measures, guide positive cognition, shape positive behavior, strengthen mental health education, and make preparations for the orderly resumption of school after the epidemic.

China Occupational Medicine 2023;50(5):596-600
Cytochrome P450 enzyme 1A1 (CYP 1A1) is one of the main members of CYP1A subfamily, which participates in metabolizing and activating a variety of indirect carcinogens. CYP1A1 can induce carcinogenesis by participating in activating exogenous compounds to produce intermediates or active metabolites that bind to specific biomolecules. CYP1A1 plays a critical role in the metabolic activation of benzo(a)pyrene e [B(a)P], and plays a key role in activating the toxic and carcinogenic effects of B(a)P. CYP1A1 involves in the metabolic activation of 7,12-dimethyl benzanthracene and 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (PhIP), and plays an important role in PhIP-induced genotoxicity. CYP1A1 is the main enzyme to metabolize and activate 7H-dibenzo[c,g]carbazole (DBC), a key factor in the carcinogenic effect of DBC. CYP1A1 is also associated with metabolic activation of indirect carcinogens such as aflatoxin B1, 3-nitrobenzene, and naphthalene. Inhibition of the catalytic activity of CYP1A1 can decrease the CYP1A1-mediated activity of carcinogens, thus playing a role in the prevention and treatment of malignant tumors.
