Acta Anatomica Sinica 1955;0(03):-
Femurs of 206 Chinese adults (122 males and 84 females) were used for the present study. Their lengths, and torsional and inclinational angles were measured after Martin's method. The results are as follows:1. The Lengths of FemurThe average length of the femur in males is 43.68?2.02 cm. (43.77?2.02 cm. on the left side, and 43.61?2.04 cm. on the right), while that in females is 40.96?2.84 cm. (41.05?2.84 cm. on the left side and 40.93?2.84 cm. on the right). No significant difference has been found between the femoral lengths of both sides; however, there is a significant difference between both sexes.2. The inclinational angles of femoral neckTheir average value in the male is 128.46??6.58?(128.87??6.76?on the left side, and 127.46??6.60? on the right), but that in the female is 130.52??6.44?(130.88??6.10? on the left side, and 130.17??6.80? on the right). No significant difference exists between both sides; however, there is a significant difference between both sexes.3. The Torsional Angles of FemurTheir average value in the male is 11.95??8.89? (14.51??8.08? on the left side, and 9.20??7.75? on the right), whereas that in the female is 12.80??9.07? (15.95??9.63? on the left side, and 9.63??7.31? on the right). There is a significant difference between two sides, but no significant difference between both sexes.4. The relationship between the inclinational and torsional angles on one hand and the changes in the femoral lengths on the other has been studied by dividing the femurs into groups according to their lengths. It has been shown that the changes in the femoral length exert no effect upon the inclinational and torsional angles of the femoral necks, neither in the male nor in the female.Besides, a comparison has also been made between the femurs of both sides and both sexes, between the femoral lengths and the inclinational and torsional angles, and between the variant ranges of the torsional angles of femurs. A discussion on these problems has been made with reference to the racial differences.

Objective To observe the effect of residual tumor after radiotherapy on survival rate of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods From Jan. 1989 to Dec. 1998, 108 of 304 NPC patients pathologically confirmed, had residual tumor after radical radiotherapy, of whom, 26, 68, 14 had residual lesion in the nasopharyngeal cavity alone, cervical lymph node alone, and nasopharyngeal cavity plus cervical lymph node. Results The overall 1 , 3 , 5 , and 10 year survival rates (OS) significantly decreased in the residual group. The highest OS was in the group with nasopharynx residual alone, and the lowest in nasopharynx plus residual lymph node group. The bigger the residual lesion, the lower the OS. Conclusions The overall survival rate decreases in patients with residual lesion after radiotherapy, especially in patients with both nasophrynx and regional lymph node residual. Tumor residual after radiotherapy can be a prognostic indicator for patients with NPC.

Objective:To preliminarily investigate the efficacy and safety of bevacizumab plus neoadjuvant chemotherapy combined with concurrent chemoradiotherapy in the treatment of locally advanced giant cervical cancer (LACC).Methods:Twenty-four patients with LACC who were treated with bevacizumab combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy were assigned into the study group, and 30 patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy in phase Ⅱ clinical trial (ChiCTR-TRC-11001832) were allocated in the control group. The survival rate was calculated by the Kaplan- Meier method, and the significance of differences between the variables was determined by the log-rank test. Results:The tumor volumes were (1.64±23.15) cm 3 and (12.83±15.08)( P=0.037), and the complete remission (CR) rates were calculated as 45.8% and 13.3%( P=0.004) in the study and control groups after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The tumor volumes were (0±1.5) cm 3 and (1.00±10.63) cm 3( P=0.022) and the CR rates were 70% and 50%( P=0.009) in the study and control groups before afterloading treatment. The median follow-up was 24.6(9.3-101.7) months. The 1-and 2-year overall survival rates were 96%, 96% and 90%, 71%( P=0.110), the recurrence-free survival rates was 96%, 96% and 97%, 89%( P=0.512), and the distant metastasis-free survival rates were 96%, 88% and 83%, 80%( P=0.297) in the study and control groups, respectively. Adverse reactions were acceptable in both groups. Conclusion:Bevacizumab combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy can significantly reduce the tumor volume, improve the tumor CR rate and yield tolerable adverse reactions.

Journal of Preventive Medicine 2024;36(3):185-188
Objective:
To investigate the relationship between total homocysteine (tHcy) levels and sarcopenia among the elderly, so as to provide insights into the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia.
Methods:
The elderly aged 65 years and older who participated in the physical examination of Shibantan Township Health Center in Xindu District, Chengdu City from April to June 2021 was selected as the study subjects. The elderly with sarcopenia (diagnosed according to the diagnostic criteria of the Asian Sarcopenia Working Group in 2019) and non-sarcopenia were matched 1︰1 by gender and age (±2 years). Demographic information, skeletal muscle mass, skeletal muscle strength and tHcy were collected through questionnaire surveys, physical examination and laboratory testing. Multivariable conditional logistic regression model was used to explore the relationship between tHcy and sarcopenia.
Results:
A total of 320 individuals, including 160 sarcopenia patients and 160 non-sarcopenia individuals, were investigated. There were 138 males (43.13%) and 182 females (56.87%), with a median age of 71.00 (interquartile range, 6.00) years. There were 57 drinkers (17.81%), 78 smokers (24.37%), 173 cases of hypertension (54.06%) and 124 cases of hyperhomocysteinemia (38.80%). Multivariable conditional logistic regression analysis showed that elevated tHcy was associated with an increased risk of sarcopenia (OR=1.107, 95%CI: 1.024-1.197), after adjusting for smoking, alcohol consumption, hypertension, waist circumference, neck circumference, body mass index, platelet count and high density lipoprotein cholesterol.
Conclusion
Elevated tHcy is associated with sarcopenia, and intervention should be carried out for the elderly with higher tHcy.

Objective To investigate the balance of Th1/Th2 cytokines and its relationship with prognosis of severe chronic hepatitis B ( CHB ). Methods Peripheral blood samples were collected from 112 severe CHB patients, 30 CHB patients and 30 healthy controls. IL-4, IFN-γ levels and HBV DNA loads were measured by ELISA and fluorescent PCR, respectively. The levels of cytokines in different stages, and their correlations with HBV DNA loads and short-term prognosis were analyzed. Results Higher levels of IL-4, IFN-γ and Th1/Th2 ratios in peripheral blood were detected in patients with severe CHB than those with CHB and the healthy controls (Z = 8.968, 10. 004 and 26. 067, P =0. 009, 0. 007 and 0. 000). IL4 levels in patients with end-stage server CHB were markedly higher than those in other stages ( Z = 3. 672 and 3. 158, P= 0.000 and 0.002), while their Thl/Th2 ratios were lower (Z=3. 161 and 2. 166, P=0.002 and 0. 030). No significant differences on levels of IL-4, IFN-γ and Th1/Th2 ratios were observed in severe CHB patients with different HBV DNA levels (Z =4.431, 2.626 and 0. 140, P =0.219, 0.403 and 0. 987). Elevated IL-4 was closely correlated with the high case-fatality rate within 12 weeks. Conclusions The balance between Th1 and Th2 cytokines is- disturbed in patients with severe CHB. Thl/Th2 ratio decreases with the aggravation of diseases, which may indicate unfavorable short-term prognosis.
