1.Experimental study on melhylprednisolone therapy assisted by direct current field to treat spinal cord injury

Objective To study the effect of methylprednisolone therapy assisted by direct current field to treat spinal rord injury.Methods In order to make up for the defect that the direct current field could tiol reduce or remove spinal-cord edema,methylprednisolone was used 2 hours after spinal-cord injury.24 Chinese dogs wore randomly divided into two groups.Their spinal cords were made completely injured with Allen method.In Group A the electric stimulator was put into the body directly 6 hours after the spinal cord injury,while in Group B a large dose of rneuiylprednisolone was first injected 2 hours after thf spinal cord injury and then the electric stimulator was put into the body 6 hours after the spinal cord injury.In both groups the nerve function,cortical somatosensory evoked potential and three kinds uf morphometric changes were observed at 1,2,and 3 months after the injury.Results All the indexes mentioned above in Group B were much better than those in Group A.The differences between the two groups were statistically significant.Conclusion The direct current field can promote spinul curd regeneration effectively.A large dose of methylprednisolone assisted by direct current field has synergislic effects in treatment of spinal cord injury,especially in accelerating neurological functional recovery.
2.Rapid and undamage determination of fruit of Eucalyptus globules labill by near infrared spectroscopy and clustering analysis

AIM: To provide a rapid method for identifying fruit of Eucalyptus globule labill. METHODS: A new method, using NIRS for rapid and nondestructive classfication of the fruit of Eucalyptus globules labill and its counterfeit drug, the fruit of Eucalyptus robusta Smith, was proposed and then cluster analysis was adopted. RESULTS: The result showed that two kinds of fruits had their own characteristic NIRS spectra. CONCLUSION: The method is quick, simple and reliable, and in combination of the fingerprint NIRS spectrum and the clustering analysis is easy to identify the adulteration.
3.Regional Mechanical Properties of the Sclera

Objective To investigate the differences in mechanical properties of the sclera in different regions. Methods The sclera of sus scrofa was divided into 3 regions, namely, anterior, equatorial and posterior area. Local indentation was performed on different areas of the whole sclera. Strip specimens of different regions were circumcised along the equatorial direction, and subjected to uniaxial stretching by INSTRON 5544. Results Within the normal physiological stress range, the stiffness at anterior, equatorial, and posterior area of the sclera measured by local indentation was (0.91±0.21), (0.6±0.16), (0.39±0.13) MPa, respectively. The elastic modulus at anterior, equatorial, and posterior area of the sclera measured by uniaxial stretching was (1-28±0.37), (0.95±0.31), (0.72±0.28) MPa, respectively. Conclusions The local indentation could reflect regional mechanical properties of the sclera. The anterior sclera performed a higher stiffness than the equatorial and posterior areas. The results provide references for further study on the pathogenesis of ocular diseases including myopia.
