Objective To study the role of coping styles in the relationship between coping resources and psychosomatic health in patients with asthma. Methods 184 adult patients with asthma were investigated with General Serf-Efficacy Scale (GSES), Internality, Powerful Others, and Chance Scale (IPC), Social Support Rat-ing Scale (SSRS), Defensive Style Questionnaire (DSQ), Trait Coping Style Questionnaire (TCSQ) and Short Form 36 Health Survey Questionnaire (SF-36). Results Significant correlation between self-efficacy (r=0.356),locus of control(Ir=0.208, Pr=0.341, Cr=-0.349) ,subjective(r=0.201) and objective(r=0.189)social support, immature and middle ( r = - 0. 257 ) defensive styles and coping styles ( PCr = 0.231, NCr =-0.505 ) with Mental Component Summary (MCS) was found (all P <0.05), but Physical Component Summary (PCS) was only related to self-efficacy( r=0. 175) ,chance(r=0.150),immature(r=-0.256) and middle de-fensive Styles and negtive coping styles (all P < 0.05). PCS (t = - 5.189) and MCS (t = - 6. 758) could be predic-ted effectively by negative coping style (all P<0.01). Moreover, self-efficacy, powerful others and the use of so-cial support could had an effect on the health of patients through negative coping style. Conclusion Negative coping style could not only have a direct effect on the health of asthma patients but also be a mediator between self-efficacy, locus of control, social support and the health of patients.

Objective To study the neuro-protective effects of magnetotherapy after traumatic brain injury of rats. Methods Traumatic brain injury models were created in 20 rats and divided randomly into magnetotherapy and non-magnetotherapy groups. The rats in magnetotherapy group received magnetotherapy on the cranial surface of traumatized region twice daily, each for 20 min, over 10 d. The intensity of magnetic field was O. 15 T at the surface, and 0.1 T during spinning at 3000 rpm. The contraction strength of gastrocnemius of each rat's left hind limb was measured on the 11 th d after trauma. The rats were then sacrificed and brain tissue samples were taken. The infiltra-tions of CD4 + and CD8 + cells and apnptosis in the area around the injury lesion were observed with immunohisto-chemical methods. The relationship among the indexes was analyzed. Results At the 11th d after brain injury, the quantities of CD4 + and CD8 + cells and apoptotic cells in magnetotherapy group were all obviously less than those in non-magnetotherapy group. Average contraction strength of gastrocnemius in magnetotherapy group was significantly stronger than that in non-magnetotherapy group. Conclusions Magnetotherapy can relieve the secondary effects of brain injury and induce neuro-protection effects. This may involve decreasing the local infiltrations of CD4 + and CD8 + and apoptotic cells in the area around the injury lesion.

A 66-year-old man was admitted for a 7-day history of painful blisters and erosions in the upper lip.Real-time PCR with herpes simplex virus (HSV) type-specific primers showed that the blister fluid and crusts were positive for HSV-1,but negative for HSV-2.Observation of the blister wall with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed 3 types of nucleocapsid in the karyoplast of epithelia cells, including the electron-translucent core, granular core and electron-dense core.Numerous matured viral particles with envelope were found in the cytoplasm, which were identified as HSV.The diagnosis was made as herpes simplex in the upper lip based on the above findings.PCR based molecular typing combined with observation of HSV particles via TEM may be an effective approach to the definite diagnosis of primary herpes simplex.

[Summary] Type 2 diabetic rat model accompanied by insulin resistance was established by high fat/high glucose diet and streptozotocin.Following metformin treatment for 4 weeks, realtime PCR and Western blot were used to detect the expressions of SIRT3 mRNA and protein in skeletal muscle tissue, respectively. The results showed that insulin sensitivity, superoxide dismutase (SOD),and glutathione (GSH) levels were significantly reduced in diabetic group compared with the control group (P<0.05),while methane dicarboxylic aldehyde (MDA) level was increased (P<0.05),along with the decreased expressions of SIRT3 mRNA and protein in skeletal muscles (P<0.01).After metformin treatment, the insulin sensitivity,SOD,GSH,and SIRT3 mRNA and protein levels were significantly increased (P< 0.05 or P< 0.01),while MDA level was decreased (P < 0.05),suggesting that metformin may ameliorate insulin resistance via upregulating SIRT3 expression in skeletal muscles of diabetic rats.
