AIM: To investigate the effect of tea-polyphe nols (TP) on the activation of NF-?B and the expression of TGF-? 1 mRNA in TH P -1 cells (a human acute monocytic leukemia cell line). METHODS: TH P-1 cells were incubated with the different concentrations of TP, VLDL, LDL or o x-LDL. In the THP-1 cellls, the nuclear malposition rate of NF-?B was detected with immunohistochemistry technique, the positive index of the TGF-? 1 mRNA ex p ression was detected by hybridization in situ, and accumulation of total cholest erol (TC) in cells incubated with 0 4-40 ?g/L TP was determined with oxidase a ssay. RESULTS: The nuclear malposition rate of NF-?B, the posit ive index of the TGF-? 1 mRNA expression and TC in THP-1 cells incubated with 0 4-40 ?g/L of TP were lower than those with 0 ?g/L of TP in TP-V group, TP-L group and TP-O ( P 0.05). CONCLUSION: TP inhibited the activation of NF-?B, the expressio n of TGF-? 1 mRNA and the foam cell formation in the mono-macrophage.

Objective To analyze the clinical features of renal involvement associated with Behcet's disease (BD) through 1 case and to make a review of the literature in order to early diagnose and cure in time, thus decrease misdiagnosis and mistreatment. Methods This is a retrospective study. The case was diagnosed with BD and the renal damage was confirmed by renal biopsy. The clinical features and histology features were analyzed. Results The presentation of renal disease was edema, proteinuria and microscopic hematuria. The clinical spectrum of renal BD showed a wide variation.Amyloidosis (AA type),GN (nephritis),and microscopic vascular disease were the main causes of renal BD.Patients with vascular involvement had a high risk of amyloidosis and amyloidosis was the most common cause of renal failure in BD.Conclusion Kidney is one of the organs that can alter the prognosis of the BD,so the screening for renal damage must be done for each patient with this disease.Routine urine analysis and measurement of serum creatinine level are needed for early diagnosis of renal BD.Immunosuppressive drugs can be useful in selected cases.

Objective:To analyze the mean levels of skeletal muscle mass and strength in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM), and to investigate the effects of chronic inflammatory factors and oxidative stress on them. Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted on 120 patients with T2DM aged over 60 years and 126 elderly patients without diabetes(the control group). Skeletal muscle mass, strength and serum levels of chronic inflammatory factors interleukin-6(IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)and 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine(8-OHdG)were determined, and their effects on skeletal muscle mass and strength in elderly patients with T2DM were analyzed. Results:Compared with the control group, grip strength decreased in elderly patients with T2DM(25.03±7.85)kg vs.(29.52±7.73)kg( P<0.01), and skeletal muscle mass decreased(21.36±5.46)kg vs.(22.01±5.22)kg with no significant difference( P>0.05). Serum levels of 8-OHdG were higher in elderly patients with T2DM than in the control group(3.08±0.26)ng/L vs.(2.59±0.16)ng/L( P<0.01). Correlation and regression analysis results showed that 8-OHdG was an influencing factor for muscle strength in elderly patients with T2DM( R2=0.457)and that height and weight could be influencing factors for skeletal muscle mass in elderly patients with T2DM( R2=0.822). Conclusions:Skeletal muscle mass and strength decline in elderly T2DM patients, probably as a result of increased levels of oxidative stress. These findings may serve as evidence for sarcopenia intervention in elderly T2DM patients.

In order to study the role of the bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)transplanted with or without bone marrow(BM)in the treatment of lupus mice and the effect of MSCs in the onset of systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE).Method Twenty 12-week-old female MRL/lpr mice were randomly divided into four groups, including simple bone marrow transplantation group(SG,BM 1×107),united group-1(UG1,BM 1×107+MSCs 1×104),united group-2(UG2,BM 1×107+MSCs 1×106),the positive control group(PG,no transplantation).BALB/c mice were used as the negative control group(NG,no transplantation).MSCs which were amplified from the bone marrow of male BALB/c mice in vitro were transplanted into the female MRL/lpr mice with or without BM.One month later Y chromosome was detected to confirm if the transplantation was successful or not.The change of weight, white blood cells, urine protein,anti-dsDNA antibody, the pathology and immunofluorescence of renal were observed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy. Results Y chromosome was detected in all transplanted female mice.Compared with PG,urine protein concentration in SG,UG1 and UG2 significantly decreased 30 days after transplantation(P<0.05).40 days after transplantation, the rite of anti-dsDNA antibodies in sG(0.91±0.27)was still higher than NG,which OD value wag 0.47 s0.10(P<0.05),but there was no statistical difference among UG1(0.76±0.28),uG2(0.73±0.10)and NG(P>0.05).However,50 days after transplantation, there was no marked difference of the tite of anti-dsDNA antibodies in SG(0.55±0.15),UG1(0.57±0.14)and UC2(0.58±0.05)compared with NG(P>0.05).After transplantation there was no vasculitis.no inflammatory cell infiltration in matrix and no obvious intercapillary cells proliferation in the kidney. The immunofluoroscence became negative or weakly positive. Conclusion MSCs transplantation with or without BM Can both improve the pathogenetic condition of MRL/lpr mice.MSCs can accelerate the clearance of anti-dsDNA antibody and promote the restoration of injured organs. We presume that MSCs are important immunological regulation cells in SLE.

OBJECTIVETo observe reversal of ventricular remodeling by the protein kinase C inhibitor Scutellarein in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs).
METHODSTwelve SHRs were randomly divided into two groups. Scutellarein and saline (10 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1)) were given by intraperitoneal injection to two groups of rats separately. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) and ventricular weight index (LVW/BW, RVW/BW) were measured. A polarization microscope and an image analyzer system (IAS) were used to observe changes in cardiovascular structure and to count the content of cardiac muscle interstitial collagen.
RESULTSThe pathologic changes in the left ventricle in the Scutellarein group rats (SHR(D)) improved to varying degrees, including hypertrophy of the cardiac muscle and collagen volume fraction.
CONCLUSIONScutellarein can reverse ventricular remodeling, improve myocardial stiffness and protect heart cardiac muscle.

Background: Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) can display the different layers and structures of the intestinal wall, however, its value in diagnosis and assessment of disease activity of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is still in exploration. Aims: To investigate the value of colonoscopy and EUS in diagnosis and evaluation of disease severity of IBD. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in patients with active IBD admitted at the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University from September 2017 to September 2019. The results and characteristics of colonoscopy and EUS were analyzed. Results: One hundred and five active IBD patients were enrolled, including 68 cases of ulcerative colitis (UC) and 37 cases of Crohn's disease (CD). Spearman correlation coefficient analysis revealed that the endoscopic score of UC (ulcerative colitis endoscopic index of severity, UCEIS) and CD (simple endoscopic score for Crohn's disease, SES-CD) were both positively correlated with the disease severity (r
