Using the micromethod of Farmer and Abt, plasma vitamin C content of 9S boys and girls in a middle school was determined throughout the year 1954 to 1955. A dietary survey was also carried out every month of the year, for calculating the vitamin intake. The results of the present study are as follow:1. When the diet contains ample amount of fresh leafy vegetables in season, a satisfactory plasma vitamin C level can be maintained. When the diet is limited in fresh vegetables, plasma vitamin C readily decreases in those seasons.2. There is a significant seasonal variation of plasma vitamin C content Highest values are obtained in winter, the maximal content occurring in December. The minimal value is observed in June. This corresponds to the variation in the. level of vitamin C intake in different seasons. There is no significant difference between Autumn and Winter.3. No definite correlation between plasma vitamin C content and the condition of the gums was observed in the present study.4. The plasma vitamin C content of Chinese and English school children observed by some other authors was lower than that obtained in the present investigation. It is believed that the increase plasma vitamin C of the subjects in this study is mainly due to improvement of the living condition of the population and widespread education of the people in the fundamentals of nutritional science in recent years.

Objective:To understand the clinical characteristics and prognosis of Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) with skin-limited lesion. Methods:A retrospective analysis was performed on clinical characteristics and prognosis of 16 skin-limited LCH patients, out of 578 LCH patients who were hospitalized in Beijing Children′s Hospital during December 2013 to June 2018.Results:A total of 16 skin-limited LCH cases, accounted for 2.7% of all 578 cases, were included.Among which, sex ratio (male vs.female) was 1.28∶1.00.Median ages of skin eruption occurrence and of diagnosis of the disease were 3.5 months (3 days to 2 years and 5 months) and 6 months (2 months 14 days to 2 years and 8 months) in this group.Among the 16 cases, seborrheic dermatitis-like lesions(11 cases, 68.7%) was the most common, and the trunk was most frequently involved[75.0% (12 cases)]. Serine/threonine protein kinase gene V600E [ BRAF (p.V600E)] mutation was detected in pathological specimens from 10 skin-limi-ted cases, with 9 cases being positive.Plasma samples from 5 positive cases were further detected for BRAF (p.V600E) mutation, and 4 positive results were gained.Of all 16 patients, 11 cases (68.7%) were treated.Remission were achieved in 3-6 months from treatment start in patients treated whether according to the Histiocyte Society′s LCH-2009 protocol for 25 weeks(6 cases, 37.5%), or with topical mometasonefuroate for 3 months (3 cases, 18.8%). Two patients(12.5%) with solitary cutaneous lesions underwent excision biopsy (one face and one prepuce) and were considered to be in remission immediately after surgery.None of these patients suffered from the recurrence of the disease. The remaining 5 patients (31.3%) with skin-limited LCH were just evaluated regularly, and achieved remission in 3-6 months of commencing observation.Among these untreated patients, 1 with consistently positive BRAF (p.V600E) mutation in plasma had bone involvement in the 24 th month of assessment, and was then treated based on the Histiocyte Society′s LCH-2009 Protocol. No clinical or imageological evidence supporting disease progression was found on this patient.Median follow-up period was 32.8 months (2.9-63.9 months). Except one patient, none of the rest cases had active disease till follow-up ended.Two-year event free survival(EFS) of this research was (92.3± 7.4)%.There was no significant difference between EFS of treated group and that of observation group( χ2=1.250, P=0.264). Conclusions:Skin-limited LCH often occurs in infants and newborns, with strong heterogeneity in clinical manifestations, laboratory indicators, and pathogenesis.Seborrheic dermatitis-like lesions were the most common cutaneous type. The prognosis of the patients is excellent despite progressing into multisystem involvement can be seen in a few patients.

International Journal of Cerebrovascular Diseases 2020;28(5):343-347
Objective:To investigate the predictive value of mean platelet volume (MPV) for early neurological deterioration (END) after intravenous thrombolysis in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Methods:Patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with intravenous thrombolysis in the Department of Neurology, Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine from September 2016 to December 2019 were enrolled retrospectively. Immediately after admission, hematology analyzer was used to detect the MPV level. END was defined as the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NHISS) score at any time point within 7 d after the admission increased by ≥2 from baseline. Univariate analysis was used to compare the differences in baseline data between the END group and the non-END group, and multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to determine the independent risk factors for END. The receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the predictive value of MPV for END. Results:A total of 103 patients were enrolled. Their age was 68.0±13.3 years old, and 80 were male (77.7%). There were 28 patients (27.2%) in the END group and 75 (71.8%) in the non-END group. The proportion of ischemic heart disease (28.6% vs. 9.3%; χ2=6.065, P=0.014), baseline NIHSS score (8.5 [4.0-16.5] vs. 5.0 [3.0-11.0]; Z=2.198, P=0.028), symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (1.9% vs. 0%; χ2=5.463, P=0.019), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (2.9 [2.2-3.4] mmol/L vs. 2.4 [1.8-3.1] mmol/L; Z=2.165, P=0.030), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (7.0 [1.2-36.0] mg/L vs. 2.1 [1.0-6.0] mg/L; Z=2.159, P=0.031) and MPV levels ( 10.4±1.3 fl vs. 9.5±1.2 fl, t=2.771, P=0.007) of the END group were significantly higher than those of the non-END group. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for the confounding factors, the larger MPV was an independent predictor of END (odds ratio 1.668, 95% confidence interval 1.079-2.579; P=0.021). ROC curve analysis showed that MPV had a certain predictive value for END (area under the curve, 0.653, 95% confidence interval 0.533-0.774). Its optimal cutoff value was 102 fl, and the sensitivity and specificity at this time were 57.4% and 70.3%, respectively. Conclusion:A larger baseline MPV had a certain predictive value for END after intravenous thrombolysis in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Journal of China Pharmaceutical University 2015;46(4):431-435
A long chain structure of DNA(polyaptamer)composed of multiple aptamer units was synthesized by rolling circle amplification and used for the construction of polyaptamer-doxorubicin system in the treatment of leukemia cells. It was found that the system was significantly more effective than monoaptamer in targeting and killing leukemia cells as it provided 35-fold enhanced binding affinity and 10-fold greater drug loading via multivalent effects. Drug release and cell viability also proved that the conjugates could gain entrance into the cells and rapidly release doxorubicin under the action of lysosome, leading to the tumoricidal effect.
