1.STUDIES ON THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE EPIDEMIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF KESHAN DISEASE AND SELENIUM STATUS OF POPULATIONS AND LOCAL ENVIRONMENT IN SICHUAN
Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(03):-
The relationships between some of the epidemiological characteristics of Keshan disease and the selenium status of populations and local environment in Sichuan province were investigated. The average Se contents of grains (rice, corn, wheat, soybean) and human hair in the heavy endemic areas were below 0.024 and 0.1 ppm respectively; while those in the non-endemic areas some distant from the endemic areas were above 0.04 and 0.2 ppm. These differences were statistically significant. However, the average Se contents of grains and human hair of the light endemic areas were not significantly different from those of the non-endemic areas. In endemic areas, hair Se contents of the susceptible children from peasant families were significantly lower than those from staff and professional fami- lies, and the hair Se contents of the children were significantly lower than those of the adults. These results are in consistent with the epidemi-ological characteristics of Keshan disease. However, there are some characteristics that cannot be explained by the Se deficient theory. For example, the hair Se contents of populations in the endemic areas did not change consistently with the seasonal variations of the incidence rates. The possility of using hair Se content as one of the reference indices for the forecast of epidemics of this disease is discussed.

Objective To evaluate the nutrition status of the elderly patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods The nutrition status of 100 elderly patients〔male 52, female 48, aged 60-83 yrs, with average of (69.2?0.7)yrs〕 with type 2 diabetes was investigated by analyzing nutrient content in daily diet, body measurement and laboratory examinations. Results Compared with the ideal body weight, total calorie intake was suitable for the elderly patients〔male: (1592?216) kCal, female: (1320?172) kCal〕, fat intake 〔male:(67?12) g, female:(65?13)g〕 was higher than the standard for diabetics(P

Objective To explore the incidence and risk factors of acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Methods The clinical data of 72 cases allo-HSCT from Oct 2004 to Dec 2008 were analyzed. Thirteen factors possibly correlated with the development of aGVHD were analyzed. Results aGVHD was developed in 32 cases (44.4 %), in which grades Ⅰ aGVHD was 11.1%, gradesⅡaGVHD was 18.1%, and grades Ⅲ-Ⅳ aGVHD was 15.3 %. The univariate analysis showed that diagnosis, the status of disease, use ATG, conditioning regimen, donor type,ABO blood group disparity between donor and recipient, CD34+ cell number, early engraftment and neutropenic infection, HLA locus were associated with the occurence of aGVHD (P <0.1). On the COX regression mode, an increased risk of aGVHD was associated with HLA mismatch (HR =2.58, P <0.005), GVHD prophylaxis without ATG (HR =2.94, P < 0.001), and unrelated donor (HR =1.97, P <0.01). Conclusion aGVHD is a common complication after allo-HSCT, and HLA mismatch and unrelated donor are independent risk factors for aGVHD.

Objective To determine the level of leptin in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF)of patients with aggressive periodontitis (AgP)and to analyze the relationship between leptin and periodontal cilinical parameters. Methods Fifty-four patients with AgP and 30 healthy controls were recruited.Detailed clinical examinations were conducted, and clinical parameters such as bleeding index (BI),probing depth (PD),attachment loss (AL)were recorded. Two teeth were selected as test teeth in each subject, one from posterior area and the other from anterior region. The level of GCF leptin was measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Results The level of GCF leptin in AgP patients was significantly lower than that of control subjects[(16.5±4.6) ng vs.(26.0±6.0) ng,P<0.05].The level of GCF leptin was negatively related to BI (-0.306,P<0.01),PD (-0.346,P<0.01) and AL (-0.250,P<0.01).Conclusions AgP patients have significantly decreased level of GCF leptin and the level of leptin was negatively related to BI,PD and AL.

Objective: The current investigation aimed to determine the appropriate dosage form by comparing solid dispersion and liposome to achieve the purpose of improving the solubility and bioavailability of linarin. Methods: Linarin solid dispersion (LSD) and linarin liposome (LL) were developed via the solvent method and the thin film hydration method respectively. The Transwell chamber model of Caco-2 cells was established to evaluate the absorption of drug. The pharmacokinetics of linarin, LSD and LL in rats after ig administration were carried out by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. Results: The solubility of LSD and LL was severally 3.29 times and 3.09 times than that of linarin. The permeation coefficients of LSD and LL were greater than 10
