Objective To evaluate the activation of the visual cortex in patients with primary openangle glaucoma (POAG) and to explore whether the neuronal activity corresponds with retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and cup-to-disc (C/D) values. Methods Twenty-five patients and 25 gender-and agematched healthy volunteers were studied.Blood oxygenation level-dependent functional magnetic resonance imaging (BOLD-fMRI) and three-dimensional brain volume imaging (3 D BRAVO) sequences were obtained using 3 T MR imaging system.A full-screen black-white shift checkerboard was used for visual stimulus during the fMRI experiment and was performed on each eye of all subjects using a visual-acoustical system. All acquired data were postprocessed and analyzed by statistical parametric mapping (SPM).After analysis, individual activated mapping,intra-group mean activated mapping, and inter-group variant mapping were observed. The voxel number, intensity, and Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) coordinate of the activated clusters were recorded. The Xjviewer software was utilized to obtain activated voxel numbers in occipital lobe.A Pearson correlated test was performed to test the correlation between the number of activated voxels and RNFL,C/D and Hodapp-Anderson-Parrish (HAP) clinical stage. Results Intra-group mean activated mappings of both patients and volunteers showed obvious activation in bilateral occipital lobes. As compared with healthy volunteers, the POAG patients exhibited statistically significantly decreased activation in bilateral occipital lobes, left hippocampus, and left cerebellum, along with lower mean RNFL [(71.56 ±21.54) i m versus (111.88 ± 9.96) μm] and higher C/D values (0.71 ± 0.18 versus 0.36 ± 0.08 ; t value was respectively-10.901 and 11.643,P < 0.05).The number of activated voxels in the occipital lobes of POAG patients did not correlate with RNFL,C/D and HAP clinical stage of the corresponding eye (r value was respectively 0.157,-0.113 and-0.242,P > 0.05).Conclusions fMRI demonstrated differences in visual cortex activation in POAG patients relative to healthy volunteers, suggesting it might be a promising complementary method for diagnosing glaucoma. However,fMRI findings did not correlate with POAG extent,as measured by RNFL and C/D values.Ophthalmological examination remains to play an important role in the evaluation of open-angle glaucoma.

Pancreatic cancer is a commonly malignant gastrointestinal tumor with an significantly increasing incidence. Those patients without nonspecific symptoms at early stage had mostly lost the opportunity of surgical therapy when pancreatic cancer was detected at advanced stage, and its prognosis is poor. Therefore,it is rather important to improve the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. In recent years, proteomics is developing rapidly.Proteomics technologies have been widely used in clinical research.Using proteomics technology screening pancreatic cancer tumor markers becomes the research focus, thus we try to find a kind of or a group of pancreatic tumor markers,so as to improve the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

ObjectiveA comparative proteomic method was used to analyse serum proteins between pancreatic cancer patients and control group, and to find a new protential specific marker.MethodsComparative analysis on the pancreatic peripheral blood protein profiling from 40 pancreatic cancer patients,10 chronic pancreatitis patients,10 benign tumor patients and 40 cancer-free controls was carried out by 2D differential gel electrophoresis, and differentially expressed proteins were identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry.ResultsTwo differentially expressed proteins:transthyretin and apolipoprotein E were identified. Those proteins were highly expressed in pancreatic carcinoma group compared with normal control group, chronic pancreatitis group and benign tumor group.Conclusion2D differential gel electrophoresis and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry technology in screening specific serum biomarkers of pancreatic cancer has a well repeatability and stability. The identified protein transthyretin in this study may be as specific serum biomarkers of pancreatic carcinoma.

Irritable bowel syndrome is a common functional gastrointestinal disorder, among which diarrhea-type irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) is the main type in China, which is seriously affecting the quality of life for patients. The pathogenesis of IBS-D is still unclear. It has been found that Intestinal flora disorder is an important pathogenesis of IBS-D. There is a close relationship between intestinal flora and IBS-D TCM syndrome types, and there are differences in intestinal flora of different TCM syndrome types of IBS-D. However, TCM syndrome types are a complex and multi-factor combination. Therefore, based on the TCM theory of nature and location of disease, this article proposed the following conclusions through analyzing previous studies on intestinal flora of different TCM syndromes of IBS-D, including that the intestinal flora of different TCM syndromes have different characteristics and there are differences in the functions of flora, deficiency and excess of disease are associated with the diversity and abundance of intestinal flora, cold and heat of disease are related to the proportion of beneficial bacteria and opportunistic pathogens, and the characteristics of intestinal flora are the microcosmic manifestation of the disease position of TCM. In addition, this article also proposed the application of fecal bacteria transplantation based on the theory of nature and location of disease. Based on this theory, the study on intestinal flora of IBS-D can provide help for objectification of TCM syndrome types, and also provide TCM research ideas for revealing the pathogenesis of IBS-D.
