2.Total Micrografting Hair Transplantation Using a New Hair Implanter.
Annals of Dermatology 1997;9(3):177-181
BACKGROUND: Hair transplantation is a continuously evolving era towards a more natural style and micrografting in greater quantities is becoming an unmistakable trend. OBJECTIVE: A rapid, simple method to make a micrograft implanter with low cost and a case of total micrografting using this new hair implanter are presented. METHODS: We devised a simple method to make a micrograft hair implanter using a spinal tap-ping needle and did total micrografting with this device 3 times on 1 patient. RESULTS: Cosmetically, hair transplantation using our device produces hair that is slightly less dense in a normal individual. However, our technique gives a good balance in distribution of hair with no scarring which contribute to a natural style appearance. CONCLUSIONS: Total Micrografting with our new implanter produces a natural appearance without the artificial look and scars typical of the minigrafts or punch grafts in Koreans. So we consider this device as a another alternative device in hair transplantation.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1992;30(5):577-584
The clinical spectruni of epidermolysis bullosa acquisita(EBA) is much broader than originally thought. Although the full extent of the clinical presenation is still being defined, it is now known that EBA include the followings: a non-inflammatory mechanobullous condition equating wit,h classical EBA; an inflammatory vesiculosullous eruption mimicking bullous pernphigoid; and a mucosal-centered disease with sarring similar to cicatricial pemphigoid. Among the nine cases of EBA, aged between 34 to 70 year-old, seen in recent years, three patients had mechanobullous lesions with skin fragilities and scarrings; three patients had inflammatory bullous eruptions, and three other patient had combined features of mechanobullous/inflammatory bullous lesions. Mucous membrane lesions were recognized in sex cases, and the rnos! frequent site of involvement was the oral mucosae. According to observations of these patients episodes of inflammatory bullous eruptions appeared to be present in seven cases and have been considered as early sympoms of the disease. It has been noted, however, that in two cases lesions develop d as an non-inflammatory mechanobullous from thonset. Based on the ability of EBA to mimick bullous pemphigoid or cicatricial pernphogoid and the fact that such cases have perhaps been missed, we feel EBA is more common than past literature has suggested.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1979;17(2):105-110
In atopic dermatitis, genetic factor undoubtedly involved, but precise mode of tra- nsmission is not yet clear. Since the true incidence and mode af transmission requires a large scale prospective study, they are very difficult to determine. This study was performed in order to elucidate incidence and hereditary backgro- und of atpoic dermatitis in the selected and secluded urban area where relatively an inbred population lived, because of substantially less immigration from other area. Investigation of this study were carried out among infants and children under 6 year old, The results were as follows 1) A total of 516 infants and children under 6 year nld were examined (male 267, female 249) 2) The incidence of atopic dermatitis was ll.2% (58/516). 3) 67. 3% of patients with atopic dermatitis (39/58) had a family history of atopic dermitis, urticaria and asthma. 4) Frequent clinical features of these patients were pruritus (93. 1%), dry or coarse skin (85. SF), and facial and extensor involvement of the skin (82.7%). 5) Molluscum contagisum (9 cases), impetigo(7 cases, strophuius (4 cases), and.. uzticaria (2 cases), were combined. with atopic dermatitis.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1978;16(2):149-154
A 10-year-old boy had pin-head sized, discrete, yellowish waxy, translucent papules on the face and also, various sized round, circumscribed, erythematous patches with silvery white scales on the trunk. The clinical and histopathologic findgs were compatable with diagnosis of tuberous sclersis associate with psorlasis. There were strong familial history during 3 generation in psoriasis(Fig. 1) Both psoriasis and tuberous sclerosis are heritable skin diseases. Some heritable dermatologic conditions found in tuberous sclerosis including ichthyosis, hypertrichosis and palmar and plantar keratoses but there is no report of tuberous sclerosis associated with psoriasis in published literatures.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1980;18(3):193-199
This study was designed to investigate the therapeutic effect of dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) on alopecia areata. Forty patients with alopecia areata were sensitized by applying 0.1ml of 2% DNCB dissolved in aceton solution on the voiar aspect of left forearm. Patients were subsequently chaIlenged at weekly mtervals with 0. 1% DNCB solution appIied to one side of affected area for periods of 2 to 8 months. The other side of affected area was reserved as a contol site. The results were as follows. 1. In 29 out of 40 patients (72.5%), hair regrowth occurred either excIusiveIy on the treated site (18 cases) or considerably faster and denser on treated site(11 cases)(Table 1) 2. In the majority of cases, the regrowth of hair was observed, within eight weeks of the treatment. 3. The response to DNCB depended on the severity of the aIopecia. The response rate were 80.9% (17/21) in moderate degree (<25% bald area) cases, 68.7% (ll/16), in the extensive degree(>25% bald area) caes and 33% (1/3) in alopecia totalis(Tale 1) 4. The rate of response depended on the duration of the alopecia. Satisfaetory results were obtained in 19 out of 25 patients with a history of less than one year(76%), in 7 out of 10 patients with a history of one to three year(70%) and in 3 out of 5 patients with a history of more than three years (60%) (Table 2) 5. The main side reactions were burning sensation (3 cases), severe eczema (2 cases), folliculitis (2 cases) and cervical lymphadenopathy(7 cases). 6. Liver function test and complete blood cell count were in normal range during the course of treatment in 5 randomly selected patients. 7. Although the treatment of alopecia areata with DNCB still remains to be an experimental trial, this therapy could be substituted for corticosteroids in selected cases.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 1982;11(2):241-244
The occurrence of fistulous tract between the thoracic subarachnoid space and the pleural cavity due to injury is uncommon. The one was developed after traffic accident and treated by surgical repair of the fistula : The other was post-operative complication of costotransversectomy for T2 sympathectomy. The complication was realized by the surgeon who was aware of the small leakage of cerebrospinal fluid from the dura propria of the T2 nerve root at the time of surgery. Intermittent pleural punctures for drainage and semisitting position were followed by spontaneous closure of the fistula. These cases were reported so that the uncommon condition might be added to the differential diagnosis of pleural effusion.

To investigate recovery, growth, and activity of hepatocyte in primary culture after cell separation, the authors followed up the marker enzyme activities of golgi complex, mitochondria and biologic membrane. Thiamine pyrophosphatase, the marker enzyme of golgi complex, activity approached the level of long term culture at 4th day. Succinate dehydrogenase, the marker enzyme of mitochondria, activity decreased with time, then it maintained constant level after 4th day. Alkaline phosphatase, the marker enzyme of biological membrane, activity increased from 3rd day, and after 5th day it showed strong reaction. These data suggested that hepatocytes were stabilized and recovered normal activity 4 day after cell separation. But the main secretory function was speculated to be reduced in culture.

Yeungnam University Journal of Medicine 1990;7(2):27-37
To investigate the changing patterns of microfilament and microtubule arrangement and influence of myocardial cells and colchicines to microfilament and microtubule formation in cardiac endothelial cells the authors carried out indirect immunofluorescence stain for actin and tubulin with supernatant monoclonal antibodies. Secondary antibodies were IgG FITC conjugate. The results were summarized as follows. Fiberform reactions were stronger in the cells with many processes and spread cytoplasm and they became weaker after the endothelial cells formed monolayer. In the endothelial cells cocultured with myocardial cells the fiberform of the microtubule became less visible compared to control group but fiberform of the microtubule maintained strong intensity as endothelial cells formed monolayer. In the group treated with colchicines, there were no visible differences in microfilaments compared to control group but fiberform of microtubule revealed weaker intensity after colchicines treatment. The intensity of microtubule fiberform returned to control level after 2 days.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 1974;3(2):81-88
Interbody fusion was performed on eight cases of lumbar instability;five spondylolisthesis and three spondylolysis. Five cases were operated by anterolateral approach through the retroperitoneal space, and posterior approach on three cases after Cloward. Symptomatic improvement was obtained in almost all cases and complete fusion was observed on the roentgenogram three months later. Ambulation was possible from the immediate postoperative day without external support. While posterior approach has an advantage to observe the nerve root under direct vision, anterolateral approach has the following advantages; It is less destructive to the spinal structures, It can be performed without teasing the neural elements, anterior slipping of the vertebral body can be reduced easily, and its was applicable to the upper lumber level where neural elements qre compact. We believe interbody fusion has definite advantage to obtain strong weight bearing stability than fusion of any other parts of the spine because it has rapid recovery, low morbidity and high percentage of complete cure without disability.
