Objective To evaluate MRI findings and X ray appearance in primary myelofibrosis (PMF) in marrow of lumber vertebra and pelvis. Methods Eleven cases of PMF with integrated clinical and pathology data were collected. All cases were examined with X ray and MRI simultaneously. The imaging findings of PMF were studied and compared with that of normal group. The MRI findings and X ray appearance of cases with PMF were evaluated and compared with each other to find their good quality, the shortcoming, and the relationships. Results X ray appearance in the plain film in cases with PMF: There were no abnormal findings in lumbar vertebra, iliac bone, and superior segment of femur in 5 of 11 cases. Blurred bone trabecula and ground glass changes in bone marrow were found in 3 of 11 cases. In another 3 cases, the bone trabeculas were obscured, tightly closed or mixed together, and the density of bone marrow were widespreadly high, and the difference in it couldn′t be distinguished. MRI findings in cases with PMF: MRI findings in different parts of lumbar vertebrae, iliac bone, and femur superior segments in all 11 cases were consistent. Compared with the control group, both images on T 1 and T 2 weighted spin echo displayed diffusely and well distributed lower signal intensity in 6 of 11 cases, but displayed scattered spot and patchy lowersignals in 5 of 11 cases in all parts of bone marrow including lumbar vertebra, iliac bone, and superior segment of femur. The extents of lower marrow signal intensity varied in different cases. The high signal in femoral head and greater trochanters remained unchanged as that of subcutaneous fat in 4 of 11 cases. The positive rate was 54.6%(6/11)in X ray findings, but 100%(11/11)in MRI appearances. Conclusion MRI has greater value than X ray in the early diagnosis of PMF. The early diagnostic value of X ray plain film for PMF is limited.

BACKGROUND:Astragaloside and tanshinone IIa are the effective components of traditional Chinese medicine treatment of myocardial ischemia, and its role in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s differentiation into myocardium-like cel s remains unclear.
OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of tanshinone IIa and astragaloside on the differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s into myocardium-like cel s.
METHODS:The maximal non-toxic concentrations of tanshinone IIa and astragaloside were measured using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay, to define the dose of the two in the induced differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s into myocardium-like cel s. The isolated and purified bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s were divided into five groups:astragaloside group, tanshinone IIa group, astragaloside+tanshinone IIa group, 5-azacitidine group, and blank control group. The expression of gap junction connexin 43 and troponin was determined with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The expression of gap junction connexin 43 and troponin in astragaloside group, tanshinone IIa group, astragaloside+tanshinone IIa group, 5-azacitidine group was higher than that in blank control group (P<0.01). The astragaloside+tanshinone IIa group showed a higher expression of gap junction connexin 43 and troponin than astragaloside group and tanshinone IIa group (P<0.01). There was no significant difference in the expression of gap junction connexin 43 and troponin between astragaloside+tanshinone IIa group and 5-azacitidine group (P>0.05). A combined use of astragaloside and tanshinone IIa can induce bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s to differentiate into myocardium-like cel s, and their joint role is better than the role of a single ingredient.

Objective To design and synthesize novel drugs for metabolic syndrome. Methods A kind of drugs treating metabolic syndrome was designed by linking acipimox with the lipid lowering function group of fibrates. Primary amine intermediates were synthesized from 4-aminophenol, 4- (aminomethyl)phenol and 4- (2-aminoethyl)phenol by 3 steps, then target compounds were obtained by coupling acipimox with these primary amine intermediates, and their hypolipidaemic activity in Triton WR-1339 induced hyperlipi daemic mice was evaluated. Results and Conclusion 5 target compounds were synthesized and identified by1H NMR and ESI MS methods. It showed that all the compounds could decrease blood-lipid, and 4c exhibited anti-hyperlipidemic activities close to the positive control(bezafibrate)in in vivo hypolipidemic activity tests. The results have good value for the discovery of novel drugs for metabolic myndrome.

Plant samples were collected and investigated periodically. According to the growth of different parts and the characteristics of dry substance accumulation of Scrophularia ningpoensis, the development of S. ningpoensis could be divided into four stages: seeding stage, stem and leaf growth stage, expanding period of root tubers, and dry substance accumulation stage of root tuber. Leaf numbers of S. ningpoensis grew gradually from one at first to 370 at the final stage, main stem leaf were 50 pieces. Leaf size increasesed with the fastest growth at the stem and leaf growth stage, average daily increase amount was 225 cm2. By the middle of August, leaf size reached to 16,270 cm2. Leaf area indexrose sharply in the seeding stage, and remained above 8 among stem and leaf growth stage and expanding period of root tubers, and rapidly reduced to zero in the stage of dry substance accumulation of root tuber. Leaf area ratio has a tendency of obvious dropping. The net assimilation rate had a small change ranges, two small peak were seeding stage and dry substance accumulation of root tuber. The value of specific leaf area was higher in seeding stage, and in the earlier stage of dry substance accumulation of root tuber. Relative growth rate changed with large ranges, higher in seeding stage, rapid decrease in stem and leaf growth stage, rose in expanding period of root tubers, and declined again in the stage of dry substance accumulation of root tuber. Crop growth rate was higher in the first and last stages, and smaller in interim stage. The growth parameters of S. ningpoensis such as relative growth rate, net assimilation rate, leaf area index, leaf area ratio, specific leaf area, crop growth rate changed along with the growth. The rule of dry matter accumulation was as follows: the dry matter increased slowly during the seeding stage and speeded up in the middle and late stages, and in dry substance accumulation of root tuber increased slower, the growth of dry matter all appeared an "S" curve, and accorded with logistic equation. Cultivation technologies of S. ningpoensis and the relevant management methods could be established according to the growth of different parts of S. ningpoensis and the characteristics of dry substance accumulation in different stage.

Objective To investigate the value of whole-liver MR perfusion imaging(MRPI)for early detection of coagulative necrosis after percutaneous ethanol injection(PEI)in rabbit liver VX_2 tumors. Methods VX_2 tumor cell suspension was inoculated into rabbit liver and liver VX_2 tumors[diameter of (2.6?0.6)cm]were induced in 10 male rabbits.MR T_1 WI and T_2 WI were performed to monitor the development of the liver tumor on the 2~(nd)and 3~(rd)week after inoculation.Whole-liver MRPI was performed in the 10 rabbits with liver VX_2 tumors before and 6 days after PEI therapy(1.0 ml ethanol was injected into the most enhanced tumor region under CT guiding).Signal intensity(SI)values of untreated tumor parts and treated areas 6 days after PEI were recorded respectively.The steepest slope(SS)and bolus arrival time (TO)of SI-time curves were measured.The t-Student test was used in statistical analysis of the data.Results There was significant difference in MRPI data between untreated tumor parts[TO:(16.0?1.2)s and SS: 38.9?2.2]and treated areas[TO:(50.8?5.9)s and SS:6.0?1.2]6 days after PEI(t was 15.8 and -39.6 respectively,P

OBJECTIVETo reconstruct a penis with sensation and erectile function maintained by corpora cavernosa lengthening and skin flap transferring in the penis defect cases.

METHODSThe procedure was based on the use of releasing the suspensory ligaments and part of crus, various flaps were designed as coverage material. Penis residual stump was advanced to anterior portion of the newly reconstruction penile body as "glans".

RESULTS40 patients with penis defect have been operated by the above methods. In the cases, length of the penis varied from 0.5-4.0 cm in the flaccid, 1.5-5.0 cm in erect state before operation. And after operation, it turned to 5.0-8.5 cm in the flaccid, 7.0-12.5 cm in erect state. Most of the patients recovered gross tactile sensation and had satisfactory erectile function.

CONCLUSIONWith this method, the reconstructed penis tends to have a better appearance and function. It's a more optimal method compared with the conventional operation.

Objective: To collect, compare and analyze the changes in the strength and stability of the forearm Rou-Kneading manipulation before and after the training in Shaolin Neigong (internal Qigong). Methods: Ninety first-year undergraduates were randomized into three groups using the random number table method, with 30 people in each group. The Gongfa (Qigong method) group received training in both Shaolin Neigong and forearm Rou-Kneading manipulation. The manipulation group only received training in forearm Rou-Kneading manipulation. The control group only received training in forearm Rou-Kneading manipulation for one week. The ZTC-1 intelligent Tuina (Chinese therapeutic massage) manipulation parameter detection system was used to collect the wave crest, wave trough, and crest-trough difference of the strength and frequency of the forearm Rou-Kneading manipulation on the Z-axis (up and down), X-axis (left and right) and Y-axis (backward and forward) at weeks one, five and ten from the three groups. The collected data were then processed and analyzed. Results: The intra-group comparisons showed statistical significance in the Gongfa group and manipulation group (P<0.05). The strength and stability shown on the axes Z, X, and Y constantly grew with the increase of training time in the Gongfa group. The wave crest on the axes Z and Y steadily rose in the manipulation group, as well as the frequency on the axes Z, X and Y. The control group failed to show statistical significance in any of the three times of intra-group comparisons (P>0.05). The between-group comparisons showed statistical significance among the three groups at weeks five and ten (P<0.05). At week five, the wave crest on the axes Z, X, and Y, and the crest-trough difference on the axes X and Y were more prominent in the Gongfa group than in the manipulation group, showing statistical significance (P<0.05). At week ten, the wave crest, wave trough, and crest-trough differences on the axes Z, X, and Y were more prominent in the Gongfa group than in the manipulation group, presenting statistical significance (P<0.05). Conclusion: Practicing Shaolin Neigong can help the trainees reach the level of strength and frequency of Tuina clinicians in a shorter time in the forearm Rou-Kneading manipulation training. It can advance the efficiency in studying the forearm Rou-Kneading manipulation and promote the quality of the manipulation.
