Hughes-Stovin syndrome is an extremely rare entity. We present a case of a 42-year-old man, who developed deep vein and inferior vena cava (IVC) thrombosis, repeated internal bleeding and pulmonary artery aneurysms (PAAs). The patient presented with massive hemoptysis and with PAAs of a 2.5 cm maximum diameter. We describe the successful percutaneous transhepatic venous embolization of the PAAs due to occluded common vascular pathways to the pulmonary artery.

5.Clinical Study on Torsades de Pointes.

Torsades de pointes is characterized by paroxysms of ventricular tachycardia at rates typically greater than 200 beats/min in which QRS morphology shows alternating polarity in an undulating pattern so that the complexes appear to be twisting about the beseline;this arrhythmia is virtually always associated with prolongation of the QT interval. Its importance lies not in its unusual structure but in the potentially fatal outcome if conventional treatment is administred. Torsades de pointes was diagnosed in 4 patients;the first with hypokalemia, the second with congenital QT prolongation syndrome, the third with amiodarone, the fourth with organophosphorous and hypokalemia. Treatment of these patients consisted of potassium supply, isoproterenol, lidocaine, phenobarbital, tenormin, phenytoin, cardioversion, atropine. Three patients improved successfully, but one patient died, as a direct result of the ensuing ventricular fibrillation and cardiac arrest on one hour after admission.

6.Factors Influencing Re-Employment of Newly Graduated Nurses: Longitudinal Study

Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing the re-employment of newly graduated nurses.
Methods:
A longitudinal design was employed. The participants in this online survey study were 138 newly graduated nurses who had left their first jobs.Data were collected from June 2019 to January 2020 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, t-tests, Cox’s proportional hazards models with the IBM SPSS ver. 26.0 for Windows program.
Results:
About 76.1% of the participants were re-employed within one year of leaving their first jobs and the average period until re-employment was about 14 weeks. Cox’s proportional hazards models revealed that factors affecting re-employment among newly graduated nurses were social support (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.39, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.01~1.91; p = .042), job search efficacy (HR = 1.33, 95% CI = 1.01~1.77;p = .047), and extrinsic outcome expectation (HR = 1.39, 95% CI = 1.08~1.79; p = .010).
Conclusion
Social support, job search efficacy, and extrinsic outcome expectation can play a significant role in the re-employment of newly graduated nurses. It is necessary to establish strategies to enhance their social support, job search efficacy, and extrinsic outcome expectation in order to increase the re-employment of newly graduated nurses.

8.Impact of Nurse Practice Environment, Coworker Support, and Work-Life Balance on Job Satisfaction for Newly Graduated Nurses

Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of nurse practice environment, coworker support, and work-life balance on job satisfaction for newly graduated nurses.
Methods:
This study used a cross-sectional design, and the participants were 118 registered nurses who acquired license within the last 1 year and were working in hospitals. They completed questionnaires through online survey systems. Data were collected from June to July 2019 and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and multiple stepwise regression using IBM/SPSS 26.0 for Windows program.
Results:
The mean job satisfaction was 2.66±0.70 points on a 5-point scale. Multiple stepwise regression revealed that factors affecting job satisfaction of nurses included age ( β=.18, p=.014), nurse practice environment (β=.28, p<.001), coworker support ( β=.26, p=.002), and work-life balance ( β=.29 p<.001), and these variables explained 39.1% of job satisfaction.
Conclusion
These findings indicate that it is necessary to enhance nurse practice environment, coworker support, and work-life balance to improve job satisfaction among newly graduated nurses. These results can be used to help nurse managers develop related policies and retention programs for newly graduated nurses.

10.The Effect of Education in Reducing Catheter-related Urinary Tract Infections in Intensive Care Units at a University Hospital.

BACKGROUND: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the most frequent nosocomial infections and are frequently associated with indwelling urinary catheters. It is known that adherence to standard infection control measures for urinary catheters can reduce UTIs in hospitals. This study was performed to evaluate the effect of education in reducing catheter-related UTIs (CR-UTIs) in intensive care units (ICUs) of a university hospital. METHODS: CR-UTIs were prospectively monitored for all patients with indwelling urinary catheters in ICUs from July 2006 through December 2007. Recommendations based on previously known guidelines for catheter insertion, catheter management, and specimen collection to prevent CR-UTIs were formulated and educated in March 2007. Knowledge and adherence level were evaluated before and after educating healthcare workers about the recommendations using questionnaire. Changes in knowledge and adherence level before and after education were compared by Chi-square test. Changes in the rate of CR-UTIs and urinary catheter utilization ratios were also analyzed by Fisher's exact test. RESULTS: After education, knowledge level of and adherence level to most of the recommendations were improved significantly. The rate of CR-UTIs significantly decreased by 48% from 7.43/1,000 catheter-days before intervention to 3.87/1,000 catheter-days after intervention (P=0.02). CONCLUSION: Surveillance for nosocomial infections and education for standard infection control measures are very important in preventing CR-UTIs in ICUs.
