Objectives To understand the status of wild feces distribution and pollution in schistosomiasis endemic areas in Yunnan Province. Methods According to the distribution of Oncomelania hupensis snails and characteristics of human and ani-mal activities in recent five years 6 schistosomiasis endemic villages in Weishan Nanjian and Midu counties 2 villages each county were selected as the investigated areas and more than 4 hm2 area with snails around each village were investigated for the types and densities of wild feces. The schistosome infested feces was detected with the hatching method. Results Totally 63 hm2 were investigated and 420 wild feces were found in all kinds of environments. The densities of wild feces were 0.066 7 piles/100 m2 and the densities of wild feces of the road and the hillside were the highest 0.098 7 piles/100 m2 and 0.088 0 piles/100 m2 respectively . Totally 260 fresh wild feces were collected including the feces of human being cattle horse dog sheep and pig and the feces of cattle and dog was the most 37.38%and 30.71% respectively . No schistosome positive feces was found. Conclusions There are a lot of wild feces in snail areas in Yunnan Province and the risk of schistosomiasis transmission is still high. Therefore we should strengthen the banning grazing measures and the investigation of dogs.

6.Malignant Hyperthermia during Anesthesia .
Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 1976;9(2):163-170
Malignant hyperthermia is a well-recognized syndrome of uncertain etiology. The confusing facts are: the variety and different nature of the triggering agents, the variation in time of onset of rigidity and fever coupled with a variation in response to succinylcholine, the lack of family history in some patients, and its occurence in some who have had previously normal general anesthetics. A case is a 23 year old relatively healthy male patient in whom subtotal gastrectomy was performed under N2O-O2-ether and gallamine anesthesia with induction after pentothal sodium and succinylcholine. This was complicated by an abrupt, high rise in body temperature, muscle rigidity, flushing with peripheral cyanosis, disseminated intravascular coagulation and hyperpnea 40 minutes after induction. He died 3 hours after cessation of anesthesia without effective response to any active antipyretic therapy. The etiologic factors, incidence, clinical feature, prevention, treatment and prognosis of malignant hyperthermia are discussed.

The study reports the detection of neuroprotective effect of 10 kinds of coumarin derivatives and explores their possible mechanism. MTT method was used to screen the neuroprotective effect of 10 coumarin derivatives on neurotoxic agents (Aβ25-35 and rotenone) or OGD (oxygen-glucose deprivation). A compound with better protective effect was obtained. Then the effect of this compound on neurotoxic agents on PC12 was detected by the morphological observation. Furthermore, the effect of compound 3 on microglia with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced inflammation was detected. And the inflammatory factor was tested. Finally, direct free radical scavenging ability was detected. Compound 3 was found to be the best compound through three neurons toxic models. Not only compound 3 ameliorated cell viability reduced by three neurons toxic models, but also significantly inhibited the production of inflammatory factor (TNF-α and IL-1β). And its free radical scavenging ability is very good, especially the effect on superoxide anion, which is comparable with vitamin C. The significant scavenging effect of compound 3 on superoxide anion might be the mechanism of the neuroprotection. Compound 3 as a potential neural cell protective agent merits further investigation.

Objective To compare the clinical outcomes of Chinese rapamycin-eluting stents (Firebird stents) and imported paclitaxel-eluting stents ( Taxus stents ) in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction. Methods Ninety-seven patients with ST segment elevated acute myocardial infarction were treated with Firebird stents (in 51 patients) and Taxus stents (in 46 patients). The death rate, re-acute myocardial infarction, target lesion revascularization (TLR) ,and major adverse cardiac event (MACE) within 9 months after percutaneous coronary intervention ( PCI) were observed between the two groups. Results The rate of successful stent-implantation, angina, death, re-acute myocardial infarction, TLR and MACE was 100% ,9. 8% ,0% ,2. 0% ,0% , 11. 8% in the Firebird stent group and 100% ,8. 7% ,0% ,2. 2% ,0% ,0% and 10.9% in the Taxus stents group within 9 months after PCI. There was no significant difference between the two groups. Conclusions There is no significant difference in the clinical effect between the Firebird stent group and Taxus stent group within 9 months after PCI. However, the effect-cost ratio is better in the Firebird stent than the Taxus stent.
