Korean Journal of Psychopharmacology 2011;22(4):208-213
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome, associated factors in schizophrenia patients and whether metabolic syndrome have an effect on health related quality of life (QoL) and body image. METHODS: 81 subjects were included in this study, who were diagnosed as schizophrenia defined by DSM-IV criteria and admitted in neuropsychiatric department, Wonkwang University Hospital. For each subject, anthropometric index and laboratory parameters were measured. Metabolic syndrome defined by National Cholesterol Education Program-Adult Treatment Panel III. The subjects were evaluated health related QoL with Short-Form 36 Health Survey-Korean (SF-36-K), and were evaluated body image with Body Image Scale. RESULTS: Of patients, 24.7% had metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome was associated with long duration of illness. The patients with metabolic syndrome showed poorer QoL, especially role physical and bodily pain in SF-36-K. Also, the patients with metabolic syndrome had negative body image, especially body feature, compared to the patients without metabolic syndrome. CONCLUSION: This study suggests that metabolic syndrome is common among patients with chronic schizophrenia. Also It may lead to lowering of QoL and deterioration of body image. So clinicians should be cautious to aware the increased risk for the metabolic syndrome and intervene actively to prevent and treat metabolic morbidity among chronic patients with schizophrenia.

5.Clinical Evaluation and Experience of Ureterosigmoidostomy.
Korean Journal of Urology 1997;38(12):1369-1374
A clinical observation on 11 cases of ureterosigmoidostomy was made on whom had been operated at the department of Urology from January, 1985 to February, 1995. Underlying diseases at the time of operation were 9 cases of bladder cancer, 1 case of prostatic cancer and 1 case of urethrovesicovaginal fistula. In postoperative care, all patients were instructed to empty the rectum frequently, and took bicarbonate and potassium supplementation for electrolyte balance. Use of combined method with antireflux seems to lower the incidence of reflux, pyelonephritis and anastomotic site stricture. This way of diversion supplies a substitute bladder under voluntary control, devoid of any foreign body, appliance, or necessity of catheterization. We believe that ureterosigmoidostomy should not be overlooked and should be convenient alternative in well selected patients who have intact anal sphincter tone and desire a continent form of internal diversion with normal body shape.

Korean Journal of Clinical Pathology 1997;17(4):636-642
BACKGROUND: Antistreptolysin O (ASO) has been widely used to diagnose Streptococcus Pyogenes infections and their sequelae, rheumatic fever and acute glomerulonephritis. Butt in some cases there is no elevation of ASO that it is necessary to add one or more tests detecting immune response to S. pyogenes.. The authors analyzed the distribution of antideoxyibonuclease (ADNase) B and antistreptolysin O (ASO) among the children of an elementary school in Seoul and calculated their upper limit of normal (ULN) value. METHODS: ADNase B concentrations were determined by nephelometry (Behring Nephelometer 100 Analyzer, Germany) on 236 sera of healthy elementary school children in Seoul. Throat cultures were taken at the same time to compare ADNase B lovels between S. pyogenes carriers and non-carriers. RESULTS: The distribution of ADNase B concentrations among school children ranged from 77 (detection limit) to 1616 IU/ml and the ULN was estimated to be 362 IU/mL. The carriers of S. pyogenes clad significantly higher ADNase B levels (mean 392 IU/ml) than carriers of non-group A beta-hemolytic streptococci (BHS, 236 IU/ml) oY non-carriers of BHS (234 IU/ml). The relationship between ADNase B (Y) and ASO (X) levels was Y=0.4X+173 (r2=0.209). CONCLUSIONS: The distribution of ADNase B levels showed no close correlation with that of ASO, and ADNase B test was considered to have additive value to ASO test for detecting S. pyogenes infection.

7.Nutrient Intake Status of College Students Based on Their Consumption of Black Beans
Journal of the Korean Dietetic Association 2021;27(1):35-44
This study analyzed the intake of calories and nutrients based on the consumption of black beans. The survey was conducted on 124 college students (male: 42, female: 82), of whom 63.7% (79 students) were consumers of black beans. The calorie intake of the black bean intake group (1599.81±555.48 kcal) was significantly higher than that of the non-black bean intake group (1259.99±507.58 kcal) (P<0.01). The black bean intake group also showed a significantly higher intake of crude protein (P<0.05), plant protein (P<0.01), animal protein (P<0.05), crude fiber (P<0.001), plant calcium (P<0.001), plant iron (P<0.001), zinc (P<0.01), vitamin B 2 (P<0.01), vitamin C (P<0.01), vitamin E (P<0.01) and folic acid (P<0.001) compared to the non-black bean intake group. There was a positive correlation between the frequency of black bean intake and crude fiber (P<0.05), plant calcium (P<0.05), plant iron (P<0.05), and folic acid (P<0.05). Overall, the black bean intake group was more likely to eat black sesame 13.82 times (95% CI=5.37, 35.55), white beans 10.79 times (95% CI=3.53, 33.02), mung beans 7.22 times (95% CI=2.58, 20.23), and brown rice 4.72 times (95% CI=1.88, 11.84), than the non-black bean intake group. In conclusion, we believe that black beans constitute a vital food ingredient that is necessary to provide Korean college students with a well-balanced diet.
8.Short-term Effect of 0.2% Brimonidine(Alphagan) in Normal Koreans.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1999;40(3):765-771
Brimonidine(Alphagan)is a relatively selective-adrenoceptor agonist that activates receptor in the ciliary body, which lowers intraoculat pressure by decreasing aqueous production and increasing uveoscleral outflow. We investigated the short-term intraocular pressure lowering effect and side effect of 0.2% brimonidine in 8 eyes in 8 normal volunteers. Brimonidine was administered every 8 hours for 7 days. The intraocular pressure, pupil size, pulsatile ocular blood flow of both eyes, blood pressure, and pulse rate were obtained 2, 4 and 8 hours, and 1 and 7 days after instillation. The mean intraocular pressure was lowered in both eyes. The blood pressure, pulse rate, and pupil size were not changed before and after the instillation. The pulsatile ocular blood flow was not changed either, The only side effect which patients complanined of was nasal stuffiness in two of the patients. We concluded that 0.2% brimonidine is a good ocular hypotensive drug that has an intraocular pressure lowering effect in normal Koreans and also has few side effects.

9.Impact of Nursing Work Environment on Nurses’ Perception of Just Culture
Korean Journal of Health Promotion 2021;21(1):37-43
Background:
The purpose of this study is to identify the factors influencing nurses' perception of just culture, and to provide basic data for the establishment of just culture.
Methods:
A questionnaire survey was conducted from April 8, 2020 to April 23, 2020 for 168 nurses at hospital in Seoul. The research tools were Petschonek’s JCAT, modified by the researchers and Korean version of practice environment scale of nursing work index (K-PES-NWI).
Results:
The average age of the participants was 30.5 years, and total clinical career was 7.10 years. The perception of nursing work environment and just culture perception were 2.91±0.50 out of 5 and 4.91±0.72 out of 7, respectively. Through regression analysis with 33.0% of accountability, it was found that the perception of just culture was associated with nursing work environment (β=0.726, P<0.001).
Conclusions
Study findings suggest that intervention for the improvement of nursing work environment can be effective to increase the perception of just culture, additionally, the program to improve just culture perception should be developed and applied, and verify its effectiveness.
