Objective To discuss the effects of Radix Hedysari flavonoids on microvessel density (MVD) of pulmonary interstitial fibrosis model rats, and provide evidence for its development. Methods SPF Wistar rats were divided into blank group, model group, prednisone group, and Radix Hedysari flavonoids high-, medium- and low-dosage group. Pulmonary interstitial fibrosis model was established by intratracheal instillation of bleomycin. From the second day after model established, each drug treatment group was administered with corresponding drugs intragastrically at different points in time for 14 and 28 days. MVD was detected by immunohistochemistry. Results Neomicrovessel was increased significantly in pulmonary tissue of model rats of 14 days treatment, but slightly decreased in 28 days. MVD in 14, 28 days model group was significantly more than blank group (P<0.01). MVD in 14, 28 days Radix Hedysari flavonoids high dosage group was significantly less than model group (P<0.01). MVD in Radix Hedysari flavonoids medium-dosage group was between high-and low-dosage group, and MVD in medium-dosage group was similar with that in model group. Conclusion Radix Hedysari flavonoids could inhibit the formation of neomicrovessel in a dose dependent manner.

Objective To explore the imageologic characteristics of pelvic fractures with artery injuries and the treatment methods for embolization of arteries. Methods From January 1999 to June 2005,60 cases(42 males and 18 females)aged 21-52 years(average 34.5 years)with pelvic fractures and unsteady blood dynamics were admitted into our hospital. There were 32 cases with traffic injury,13 with crushing injury, nine with fall injury and six with other injuries. The mean injury severity score was 39?16(16-66).All cases were hypetensive with systolic blood pressure less than 90 mm Hg on the arrival.Routine X-ray examination of dorsaventral, debouch and porch of pelvis was performed. The aver- age amount of blood transfusion was 2 886 ml.All cases underwent iliac artery angiography and pelvic ar- teriography. Results X-ray examination of pelvic fractures showed posterior pelvic fracture in 25 ca- ses, with 64 branches of blood vessels injured;anterior pelvic fracture in 13,with 17 branches of blood vessels injured;acetabular fracture in six, with 12 branches of blood vessels injured;and combined pel- vic fracture in 16,with 36 branches of blood vessels injured.Three cases died, with mortality rate of 5%.One case with common arterial thrombosis was treated with artificial blood vessel transplantation, four cases with external iliac artery injuries including one with artery rupture were treated with prosthesis, and among the three cases with external iliac artery thrombosis, one was treated with dislodgment of thrombosis, one treated with recanalization of thrombolysis and one did not give any treatment.Fifty cases with injury and bleeding of internal iliac artery and its branches were treated with arterial embolization. Five cases showed no obvious injury. Conclusions The types of artery injuries can be predicted through X-ray of pelvic fracture.Posterior pelvic fracture may easily cause injury to superior gluteal arter- ies, iliac lumber arteries, and lateral sacral arteries. While anterior pelvic fracture will cause injury to obturator arteries.Superior gluteal artery is susceptible to injury.Embolization of injured arteries and an- astomosis are preferred treatment for pelvic arterial disruptions.

Microbiology 1992;0(02):-
In order to obtain an efficient screening procedure for identification of succinate producing anaerobic strains,a semi-quantitative paper chromatography method was developed. Lactic acid and acetic acid were identified as the main byproducts in the process of succinate production by the high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).Succinic acid was completely separated from the byproducts of lactic acid and acetic acid in the same broth developed by paper chromatography. The content of succinic acid was calculated by a semi-quantitative method. The results showed that paper chromatography was a simple and cost effective method that could be utilized to screen anaerobic strains producing succinic acid.

Clinical observation and analysis were performed on 481 cases of craniocerebral injuries under 15 years of age those were treated at Chung-ang University hospital during the period from January, 1972 to August, 1975. Following results were obtained: 1. There were 302 males and 179 females and sex ratio was 1.7:1. 2. Age incidence of the accidents was greatest at 5 years of age and mostly distributed to the age group between 5 to 7. 3. Seasonal peak of the accidents was at June. 4. The most frequent cause of the craniocerebral injuries was traffic accident(277 cases, 57.59%), and the next was fall from height(159 cases, 33.06%). 5. No deterioration of consciousness before and after the admission was observed in 176 cases(3.6%). 6. Pupillary change was observed in 28 cases in which unilateral were 21 and bilateral were 7. Babinski sign was elicitable in 91 cases. 7. Early convulsion and vomiting were frequent symptoms in childhood. 8. Skull fracture was observed in 204 cases(40.33%) in which linear fracture was most frequent. The location of the linear fracture was parietal and the predilection sites of the depressed fractures were frontal and parietal. 9. The accompanying rate of skull fracture in intracranial hemorrhage was;epidural 75%, subdural 50% and subarachnoid 17.3%. 10. The overall mortality was 8.32%. In non-surgical group(442 cases), the mortality rate was 7.47% but in surgical group(39 cases), operation mortality was 17.95%.

OBJECTIVETo explore the changes in spatial learning performance and long-term potentiation (LTP) which is recognized as a component of the cellular basis of learning and memory in normal and lead-exposed rats after administration of melatonin (MT) for two months.
METHODSExperiment was performed in adult male Wistar rats (12 controls, 12 exposed to melatonin treatment, 10 exposed to lead and 10 exposed to lead and melatonin treatment). The lead-exposed rats received 0.2% lead acetate solution from their birth day while the control rats drank tap water. Melatonin (3 mg/kg) or vehicle was administered to the control and lead-exposed rats from the time of their weaning by gastric gavage each day for 60 days, depending on their groups. At the age of 81-90 days, all the animals were subjected to Morris water maze test and then used for extracellular recording of LTP in the dentate gyrus (DG) area of the hippocampus in vivo.
RESULTSLow dose of melatonin given from weaning for two months impaired LTP in the DG area of hippocampus and induced learning and memory deficit in the control rats. When melatonin was administered over a prolonged period to the lead-exposed rats, it exacerbated LTP impairment, learning and memory deficit induced by lead.
CONCLUSIONMelatonin is not suitable for normal and lead-exposed children.
