2.A Study on the Relationship between the Breast Self-Examination and the severity of breast cancer.
Korean Journal of Rehabilitation Nursing 1999;2(2):225-233
The purpose of this study is to determine the need of education about BSE for the medical members, to survey about the performance and the knowledge of BSE in patients who operated on subtotal and total mastectomy and to compare the regularity of BSE with the severity of breast cancer. The subjects were 163 patients with operated on mastectomy who participated were interviewed in the S university Hospital. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and t-test, One-way ANOVA and Pearson Correlation with SPSSWIN program. Results were obtained as follows: 1. There was no statistical difference between in the regular group of the mammography and the regular BSE group(F=0.558, P=0.458). 2. There was statistical difference between the method of detection and the severity of the breast cancer(F=3.359, P=0.011). 3. There was statistical difference between regularity of the BSE and the severity of breast cancer(F=3.301. P=0.019). 4. There was showed higher severity of the breast cancer in the elderly patients (r=0.l72, P=0.019). 5. There was showed higher severity of the breast cancer in the lower educational level(r=-0,170, P=0.033). According to this study need to the development of the educational program about the BSE and the future research about the regular BSE of the high risk group in the breast cancer.

BACKGROUND: To evaluate the efficacy of Fibrin glue to decrease recurrence in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery(VATS) for a treatment of spontaneous penumothorax. MATERIAL AND METHOD: All medical records of 17 patients who underwent a thoracoscopic wedge resections of bullae with stapling device with Fibrin glue in our institute between May 1998 and December 1999 were reviewed. variables analyzed include affected sites primary indication of VATS. duration from admission to discharge duration of postoperative stay duration of chest tube drainage recurrence and complication. There were 16 men and 1 woman. RESULT: There was no evidence of hemodynamic instability or arterial blood gas abnormalities encountered during the procedure. Mean age at the time of the VATS was 26.9 years (range 15 to 61 years) The mean duration from admission to discharge was 7.8 days and mean postoperative stay was 5.1days mean chest tube indwelling period was 4..0 days. There was no recurrence of pneumothorx. CONCLUSION: Thoracoscopic wedge resections with introduction of fibrin glue are safe and effective and requires only a short hospital stay. We believe that this thoracoscopic technique will further simplify the surgical treatment of pneumothorax.

A case of supracardiac type of total anomalous pulmonary venous return into the superior vena cava is reported which was successfully diagnosed using spiral CT and three-dimensional image reconstruction. Spiral CT with three-dimensional reconstruction is non-invasive method of visualizing the vascular system and in some instances can replace conventional angiography in pediatric patients.

Korean Journal of Child Health Nursing 1997;3(1):5-18
This study was designed to compare the educational needs of the mothers of LBW infants and normal neonate for development of the educational program. The subjects for this study were 37 mothers of LBW and 60 mothers of normal neonate at 3 general hospitals in Seoul and Inchon. The data were collected during the period from July to November, 1996. The Educational Need for Infant Care was measured by questionnaire that has developed by researchers. The data analyzed by descriptive statistics, non-paired t-test, ANOVA, ANCOVA using SPSS PC+. The results were as fellow ; 1) The educational needs of the mothers of LBW infant were higher than the mothers of normal neonate(F=14.50, P=.000). 2) There were significant associations between the educational needs of the mothers of LBW infant and delivery history(nullipara, or multipara.) and caregiver of postpartum(t=-2.08, P=.045 ; F=3.94, P=.0282). 3) There were significant associations between the educational needs of the mothers of normal neonate and numbers of children and caregiver of postpartum(F=5.53, P=.0064 ; F=3.22, P=.0480). 4) The educational need by content was signs, symptomes and management of disorders(i.g.cyanosis, seizure, fever, vomiting, etc.) were higher than general care of baby(i.g. feeding, diaper change etc.) at two groups. In conclusion, when the nurses teaching the method of infant care to mother, there should be in consideration of delivery history and caregiver of postpartum. Also, its educational contents must be included of signs, symptomes and management of disorders.
