Journal of the Korean Dietetic Association 2003;9(4):278-287
This study was performed to investigate nurses' perception for nutrition education. The subjects of this study were 197 nurses and 94 nursing assistants working at hospitals in the Kyung-nam area. The survey was conducted by using a self-administered questionnaire in November, 2001. The results were as follows : Sixty-seven point seven percent of the subjects were nurse, 32.3% were nursing assistant. Average age of subjects was 26.9 years old, average nursing experience was 5.7 years, and 70.7% of the subjects graduated from a junior college. The average nutrition knowledge score was 14.3+/-2.5 out of possible 20 points. Seventy-four point two percent of the subject responded that nutrition education is very necessary for patient, and positive responses in the nurse were higher than that nursing assistant(p<0.001). Only 8.6% of the subjects had nutrition education training. The perceptions about a suitable person for nutrition counseling and nutrition education indicated dietitian(69.3%) and nurse(21.3%). Fifty-two point eight percent of the subjects responded that they would not participate in nutrition education themselves and the main reason for this was that they believed lack of expert knowledge(43.4%), and that such courses should be taught by specialist(40.5%). Forty-eight point eight percent of subjects had nutrition counseling experience for patient, and nurses, married nurses and those over 2 years of nursing careers had significantly higher nutrition counseling experience for patient than nursing assistant, unmarried nurses and those under 2 years of nursing careers(p<0.05~p<0.001)

In order to find out a valuable control measure for soil-transmitted parasties, the infectivity in mice of Ascaris eggs irradiated with Cobalt(60) were examined. The results were summarised as follows. In vitro, Ascaris eggs irradiated with larger doses of Cobalt(60) developed poorly, and no difference was found between fresh eggs and those cultured for a few days. Ascaris eggs irradiated with doses of 200,000 rad. developed at the rate of 90 percent after 4 weeks, whereas those irradiated with 1,000,000 rad. developed 28 percent. Ascaris eggs irradiated with Cobalt(60) after 2 weeks of culture were poor in development compared with those of 4 week culture. Eggs cultured for 5 weeks showed weaker infectivity in mice than those cultured for 8 weeks. In the control groups, the infectivity in mice of Ascaris eggs was remained the same between 5 and 8 weeks. The minimum dose of Cobalt(60) irradiation effective for preventing infectivity in mice was estimated to be 200,000 rad.

Gastric web is a rare gastric anomaly and almost all the reported cases have been located in the distal antrum. We experienced a case of neonatal gastric web that was located in the body of stomach, and we report the findings of the upper gastrointestinal series and ultrasonography.

Gastric volvulus is a rare condition, and it is classified as the organoaxial or mesentericaxial type according to the axis of rotation. We experienced 1 case of pediatric recurrent mesenteroaxial gastric volvulus and we report here the ultrasonographic and CT findings.

Venous thrombosis is uncommon in young individuals. Hypereosinophilia is a rare cause of thrombosis that usually involves the heart and small vessels like retinal vessels. We report a case of massive deep vein thrombosis that developed in a young patient with hypereosinophilia who was successfully treated with continuous local infusion of urokinase.

10.Insulin effect on bupivacaine-induced cardiotoxicity in rabbits.
Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 2011;61(6):493-498
BACKGROUND: Resuscitation following bupivacaine-induced cardiovascular collapse is difficult and often refractory to conventional treatment. This study was performed to assess the effect of insulin on bupivacaine-induced cardiovascular collapse in pentobarbital-anesthetized rabbits. METHODS: Bupivacaine was administered at 0.75 mg/kg/min until the heart rate decreased to 65 beats/min. A bolus of regular insulin (2 U/kg) was administered intravenously at the bupivacaine infusion endpoint (BIE) in the insulin group (n = 8), and 2 mL of 0.9% NaCl was administered to the control group (n = 8). RESULTS: All animals in the insulin group survived and four animals died in the control group. Arrythymia was rare 10 minutes after the BIE in the insulin group. CONCLUSIONS: Bupivacaine-induced cardiovascular collapse can be effectively reversed with an insulin injection, probably through facilitation of cardiac conduction and contraction.
