We describe the case of a 45-year-old woman who had self-regressing livedo reticularis on the lower extremities. Examination of a biopsy specimen from the mottled area revealed myxomatous emboli in the deep dermal arterioles. Echocardiography showed a myxoma in the left atrium. After the tumor was surgically excised, the patient had no further evidence of the disorders during the 3-year period of follow-up. Livedo reticularis caused by an peripheral arterial embolism, which in turn was caused by the tumor fragments in our patient with left atrial myxoma, is considered to be unusual.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception of nursing students' on-site clinical experience at intensive care unit(ICU), which will help on developing fundamental tool to enhance the effect of their clinical practice. METHOD: Van Manens hermeneutic-phenomenological method has been used to analyze the data. Participants consisted of 74 third-year nursing students who performed the clinical practice at an ICU in C university hospital. The students got the group interviews and kept the clinical diaries. Data was collected from series of group interviews and contents of the students clinical diaries. RESULT: Major concerns related to students clinical practice were found as follows: [being nervous about unfamiliar machines and situations], [being frustrated about the patients], [feeling of helplessness], [being stupefied from witnessing a death], [realizing the importance of health], [realizing individual patient's precious value through family's love], [realizing the importance of treating a patient as human being], [realizing the differences between theory and practice], [modelizing two aspects of nursing: professional and personal], [readiness to become a capable nurse]. CONCLUSION: We are able to obtain in-depth understandings about the nursing students lived experience of clinical practice at the ICU. Based upon this, there is a need to develop a better nursing intervention enhance the effectiveness of the nursing students clinical practice.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of health literacy and self-care performance on health care utilization of medicaid elderly.METHODS: A total of 203 medicaid elderly over 65 and living in B-metropolitan city were interviewed. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and Hierarchical Multiple regression.RESULTS: The average score of the health literacy was 7.88±2.84 out of 12. The average score of self-care was 3.26±0.77 points on the 5 point scale. The frequency of health care utilization by the subjects was 6.65±5.25 a month. The health literacy and self-care performance showed a statistically significant positive correlation. The health literacy and self-care performance showed a statistically significant negative correlation with health care utilization. The factors affecting health care utilization of the subjects were self-care performance, health literacy, and religion, and the explanatory power was 25%.CONCLUSION: The results indicate that the self-care performance, health literacy, religion are significant factors of health care utilization in medicaid elderly. Therefore, it is necessary to develop strategies to improve their self-care performance and health literacy for reasonable health care utilization. Also, it is necessary to provide the elderly with correct information about medical use from accessible religious institutions, senior community center, and welfare centers.

Purpose: The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the transition experiences of the elderly from long-term care hospitals to their homes. Methods: The participants were eight elderly medicaid beneficiaries, who had been the subjects from the community care project in Korea. The data were collected with one-on-one interviews from April to November in 2020, and analyzed by phenomenological steps. Results: The seven themes derived in this study were ‘Space to escape’, ‘Reliable supporter opened the way to discharge’, ‘Comfortable life at home’,‘Obstacles to independent life’, ‘Struggling to live alone’, ‘Fence for community life’, and ‘Energizing in daily life’ Conclusion The results revealed the positive aspects of Community Care program in Korea. However, it is suggested that active communication between hospitals and community care institutions, and improvement of home environment to live in the community before discharge should be required. And system revision is needed to adjust activity in their home and support health problems of the elderly in the early stage of discharge. The results of this study can be referred to as the foundation of transitional care for the elderly.

The purpose of this study was to determine the level of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training among Korean older adults in a community and the factors associated with CPR training. Methods: A total of 51,939 elders were selected and analyzed using the 2022 Community Health Survey. The collected data were analysed using the Rao-Scott test and logistic regression via the SAS 9.4 program. Results: A total of 7.3% of older adults received CPR training. Factors influencing CPR training were age (odds ratio [OR]=4.76, 95% confidence interval [CI]=2.55~8.90), level of education (OR=2.43, 95% CI=1.77~3.33), region (OR=1.16, 95% CI=1.05~1.27), working (OR=3.68, 95% CI=3.33~4.07), and subjective health status (OR=1.57, 95% CI=1.37~1.79). Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, there is a need to explore various ways to improve CPR training for community older adults who are vulnerable to emergency situations.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of sexual abuse prevention education program linked to elementary physical and psychological development on sexual knowledge and attitude. METHODS: The participants were the elementary school students of fifth and sixth grades in S city, South Korea (experimental, comparison, and control group=96, 96, and 74, respectively). The experimental group received sexual abuse prevention education linked physical and psychological development, 6 sessions (3 sessions are physical and psychological development educations and 3 other sessions are sexual abuse prevention educations). The comparison group received sexual abuse prevention educations, 3 sessions (the same curriculum of the experimental group). The control group didn't receive any sexual education. The data were analyzed by χ2 test and t-test, and ANOVA using the SPSS program. RESULTS: The experimental group showed significantly better sexual knowledge and attitude than the comparison and control group. CONCLUSION: Sexual abuse prevention education program linked physical and psychological development is required for elementary school students, to improve the sexual knowledge and attitude.

OBJECTIVE: In adhesive capsulitis, assessment of the mobility of the shoulder are likely to have intrinsic error because of the altering scapulohumeral rhythm and extrinsic error. For more objective and the precise assessment of shoulder mobility in adhesive capsulitis, we observed proper glenohumeral movement, the change of scapulohumeral angle, the scapulohumeral rhythm were evaluated with radiography and compared with clinical measurement of shoulder range of motion (ROM). METHOD: The subjects were 19 patients (21 shoulder) with adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder and undertook combination treatment of distention arthrography, per os medication of non-steroid anti- inflammatory drug, stellate ganglion block, physical therapy including exercise. We assessed change in visual analogue scale (VAS), joint space capacity, shoulder mobility by measurement of ROM, and scapulohumeral angle in active shoulder abduction under the fluroscopy. RESULTS: All the subjects experienced pain relief, increased shoulder mobility and restoration of scapulohumeral rhythm. The improvement of the shoulder extension and scapulohumeral angle is well correlated with the change of VAS and joint capacity. However, the improvement of the shoulder flexion, abduction, external rotation and internal rotation were poor correlated with them. CONCLUSION: We propose the measurement of scapulohumeral angle with active shoulder abduction in shoulder AP view as an assessment method for shoulder mobility in adhesive capsulitis.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the spatial recognition memory on mice after prenatal exposure to 1.765 GHz microwave in utero. METHODS: We used self-made microwave generator with 1.765GHz radiofrequency. We designed the experimental copper box to prevent microwave from outside. The monopole antenna of microwave generator was located in the center of box for radiated equally to all of mice. The ten pregnant mice were divided to two groups, group exposed microwave and sham group. At 5th days of mating, dam mice exposed microwave grew in the isolated cage preventing microwave for 8hrs in the every day. Other mice brought up in same methods. Both groups grew in the same good condition during experimental period. They were deprived any water and food from 9 AM to 5 PM, but given adequate water and food from 5 PM to 9 AM in every day. To know whether there is thermal effect of microwave or not, body temperature was measured by rectum. Pregnant period, birth weight and gross anomaly of offspring identified. At 4th weeks after delivery, spatial recognition memory in each 11 offspring in both groups was assessed by Y-maze method. We investigated the body weight at birth, body weight change during 4 weeks after birth, the alteration ratio of Y-maze. Student t-test was used for statistical analysis with SPSS 11.0. P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: At 21st day after mating, 61 offspring were delivered from 5 exposed dams and 47 offspring were delivered from 4 non-exposed dams. All of offspring didn't die immediately after delivery and didn't have gross anomaly at 3rd days in two groups. The change of body temperature and the mean birth weight on both group wasn't different statistically significantly (-0.35+/-0.47 degrees C Vs 0.20+/-0.42 degrees C, p=0.07), (1.53+/-0.13 gm Vs 1.54+/-0.16 gm, p=0.56). The alteration ratio of Y-maze on study group was inferior to sham group. But there was no statically significant difference (59.85+/-6.58 % Vs 63.58+/-7.73 %, p=0.23). CONCLUSION: These data suggest that the spatial recognition memory on mice after prenatal exposure to 1.765 GHz microwave is not different from the sham group.
