Chinese Journal of Digestion 2001;0(03):-
Objective An investigation was conducted to assess the chemopreventive effects of celecoxib, a selective cyclooxygenase(COX)-2 inhibitor, on a rat colon carcinogenesis model induced by dimethylhydrazine (DMH). The results were compared with those of sulindac. Methods Thirty-two 8-week-old female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups (n=8 each):Group A rats were treated with DMH(120 mg/kg wt, single subcutaneous injection) alone and group B rats were treated with saline alone. Group C rats were pre-treated with sulindac (320 mg/kg feedstuff) and group D rats pre-treated with celecoxib (1500 mg/kg feedstuff) for 7 days before DMH initiation. The animals were killed at the end of the experiment (week 5) and the aberrant crypt foci(ACF) and aberrant crypt(AC) of the colonic mucosa were assessed after being stained with methylene blue. Results In group A(DMH only), the average numbers of ACF and AC were 182.4?93.43 and 262.8?197.8 respectively. In group B (saline group) rats, no ACF was found. In group C (sulindac group) rats, the average numbers of ACF and AC were 91.25?48.98 and 139.60?68.52 respectively, both of them were decreased significantly as compared with those in Group A (P

This study aims to investigate the effect of total flavones of Fructus Chorspondiatis (TFFC) on the mRNA and protein expression of collagen type I and III of rat cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) induced by angiotensin II (Ang II), and explore its anti-myocardial fibrosis molecular mechanism. Neonatal rat CFs were prepared from Sprague-Dawley rats (1-3 d after birth). The expression of collagen type I and III mRNA and protein were measured by RT-PCR and Western blotting, respectively. The study showed that stimulation of neonatal rat CFs with 100 nmol.L-1 of Ang II for 72 h resulted in a significant increase of the expression of collagen type I and III mRNA and protein. The changes on the expression level were blocked by TFFC. The results demonstrated that TFFC can inhibit myocardial fibrosis induced by Ang II in rats, which is probably associated with the collagen type I and III mRNA and protein levels up-regulated by Ang II, and TFFC was shown to decrease the expression levels of collagen type I and III mRNA and protein.

Objective:To explore the changes of cerebral blood flow (CBF) perfusion caused by N 2O (laughing gas) abuse. Methods:From December 2017 to October 2018, the CBF perfusion images of 24 patients with laughing gas abuse (9 males, 15 females; age: 18-32(24.0±8.9) years) from China-Japan Friendship Hospital were analyzed retrospectively. The region uptake statistics of different brain regions of interest (ROI) (basal ganglia, central region, cerebellum, cingulate gyrus, frontal lobe, medial temporal lobe, occipital lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe) between patients with laughing gas abuse and normal people of the same age group from background software database were calculated automatically. Statistic>1.68 indicated the increase of local CBF perfusion, while statistic < -1.68 indicated the decrease of local CBF perfusion. The correlation between the statistics of bilateral brain regions and the correlation between statistical values and clinical indicators were analyzed by Pearson and Spearman correlation analyses. Results:The correlation of the statistics between bilateral regions of each brain area was significant( r values: 0.503-0.892, all P<0.05). The decreased CBF proportions of frontal and temporal lobes were 62.5%(15/24) and 70.8%(17/24), respectively. The highest proportion of increased CBF was cingulate gyrus (33.3%, 8/24). There were significant correlations between frontal lobe, central brain area and duration of laughing gas abuse ( rs values: 0.375, 0.305, both P<0.05). Conclusion:CBF perfusion imaging is helpful for understanding the changes of CBF in patients with laughing gas abuse.

This investigation was to assess the prevalence and risk factors of hypertension in 35 to 70 years old adults living in Xicheng District of Beijing. Cluster sampling was conducted in 2230 adults, and only 1958 individuals agreed to enter into the study. Written informed consents were obtained before questionnaire and physical examination. A total of 1889 data were used for analysis. The prevalence rate of hypertension was 47.8% (n=902). The age-standardized prevalence rate was 40. 1%. Hypertension was seen in 368 men (53.0%) and 534 women (44.7%) (P=0.0005). The rates of disease awareness, treatment, and control were 47.5%, 38.5%, and 24.1%, respectively. The prevalence of hypertension increased with age (P<0.0001). Linear trend was found between body mass index (BMI) and systolic blood pressure (P<0.0001). In multiple logistic model analysis, the hypertension risk for men was 1.33 times that of women (95% CI, 1.08-1.64), for participants with obesity was 2.81 times that of those with normal weight (95%CI, 2.00-3.97). Hypertension has become one of the most concerned public health problems in the district. Middle-aged people should pay attention to changed blood pressure, especial for overweight men. Health promotion should be needed for hypertension prevention. More attention should be paid to substantial increase in hypertension.

BACKGROUND: To discuss the feasibility of allogeneic freeze-drying radiation sterilization bone sheet applying in the prevention of post-laminectomy adhesion as an ideal biological material for filling and repairing bone defect. OBJECTIVE: To observe the preventive effect of allogeneic freeze-drying radiation sterilization bone sheet on the postlaminectomy adhesion and restenosis.DESIGN: Follow-up survey on cases.SETTINGS: Department of Orthopedics, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical School of Huazhong University of Science and Technology; Shanxi Medical Tissues of China Institute for Radiation Protection PARTICIPANTS: From March 2003 to June 2005, 58 patients with segmental lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) were selected from Department of Orthopedics, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical School of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, including 34 males and 24 females, aged 30-78 years, including 25 cases of simple LSS and 33 combined LSS; and including 36 cases in L4-5 and 33 cases in L5, S1 segments. All the patients were similar in age, gender and healthy conditions.METHODS: The segmental whole laminectomies were performed in 58 patients with prolapse of lumbar intervertebral or LSS, and allogeneic freeze-drying radiation sterilization bone sheet in "H" shape was used to cover the vertebral laminae. According to the follow-up standard of lumbar spine operation recommended by the Orthopaedics Branch of Chinese Medical Association, all patients were followed up to evaluate their clinical symptoms, absorption of implanted bone as well as CT and MRI presentations.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Improvements of clinical symptoms;Absorption of bone sheet in lumbar spinal canal.RESULTS: Totally 58 LSS patients were involved in the result analysis. In postoperative 0.5-year follow-up period, 17 of 21 patients showed excellent curative effects while other 4 patients showed fine effects. In postoperative 1-year follow-up period for 23 patients, CT and MRI results demonstrated that the spinal canal had been extended obviously. There was no tilt or displacement of the femoral sheet or compression of the spinal cord. As for 14 patients who were followed up for 1.5 years, CT results displayed that there was no rejective reaction observed in this study. The edgeof the allograft was inosculated with connective lamina of vertebra, and the shape of lumber spinal was good.CONCLUSION: Allogeneic freeze-drying radiation sterilization bone sheet is an ideal dressing material for epidural laminoplasty. The imaging results of patients in postoperative 1.5-year follow-up indicate that it can effectively reduce the post-laminectomy adhesion formation and prevent recurrence of post-laminectomy spinal restenosis, so as to apply on the segmental vertebral plate dressing.
