Objective To explore the effects of different infants-feeding patterns on preschoolers' physical development, intelligence development and bone mineral density (BMD). Methods A total of 953 preschoolers from seven cities and two rural areas in China were recruited by multiple stage stratified cluster sampling methods from November 2011 to April 2012. Physiology measurement was performed to get their height and weight and to calculate body mass index(BMI). BMD of distal radius was measured by ultrasound BMD scanner. The intelligence quotient was assessed by Standford-Binet Test of Intelligence(Chinese Version). The demographic factors and the feeding ways were investigated by an interviewer-administered questionnaire and all subjects were divided into three groups : exclusive breastfeeding, mixed feeding and artificial feeding group. ANOVA analysis, Chi-square test and non-parametric test were used to analyze the data. Results There were 476, 335 and 142 children in exclusive breastfeeding, mixed feeding and artificial feeding groups, respectively. The exclusive breastfeeding rate in urban areas was significantly lower than that in rural areas [47.2%(343/726) vs 58.6%(133/227), χ2=9.780, P=0.008]. The height-for-age Z score and weight-for-age Z score were significantly different among children with different feeding ways (χ2=10.728 and 12.175, P=0.005 and 0.002). The children in the exclusive breast feeding group showed lower height-for-age Z score and lower weight-for-age Z score comparing with those in the mixed feeding and artificial feeding groups (all P<0.05). The value of speed of sound of BMD was significantly different among exclusive breastfeeding, mixed feeding and artificial feeding groups [(3 640.2±142.0) vs (3 613.9±141.9) and (3 613.4±143.0) m/s, F=3.946, P=0.020], and that in the exclusive breastfeeding group was higher than in the mixed feeding group (P<0.05). No significant difference was found in BMI-for-age Z score, intelligence score and food allergy rate and food intolerance rate among the three groups(all P>0.05). Conclusions Feeding patterns during the first several months after birth may affect the weight, height and BMD in preschool-children, but not the intelligence development of these children.

Objective:To observe the therapeutic effect of Xiaoshui Formula Ⅱ on malignant ascites.Methods:60 cases of malignant ascites were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group.The treatment group was treated with external application of Xiaoshui Formula Ⅱ and the control group with intraperitoneal injection of DDP.The therapeutic effect of Xiaoshui Formula Ⅱ was observed.Results:The total effective rate of ascites resolution was 87.1% in the treatment group and 58.6% in the control group.There were significant differences in improvement of clinical symptoms,Karnofsky score and correlative indexes between the two groups.Conclusion:Xiaoshui Formula Ⅱ has better therapeutic effect than intraperitoncal injection of DDP,with no side effect.

Objective To analyze the correlation of interleukin(IL)-12B gene single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)rs6887695 with clinical phenotypes(including age at onset,family history,clinical types,gender)of psoriasis vulgaris in Chinese Han population.Methods This study recruited 575 patients with psoriasis vulgaris and 1403 healthy controls.DNA samples were obtained from these subjects.PCR with Taqman fluorescent probe(ABI 7900 system)was performed to analyze the genotype of SNP rs6887695 in IL-12B gene.Statistical analysis was carried out by using the software SPSS 14.0,and Chi-square test was conducted to compare the frequency of the SNP rs6887695 genotypes and alleles between the patients and controls as well as between patients with different clinical phenotypes of psoriasis.Results The frequency of GG,GC and CC genotype of the SNP rs6887695 was 42.61％,45.39％ and 12.0％ respectively in the patients,compared to 34.42％,47.83％ and 17.75％ in the healthy controls(x2 =16.31,P ＜ 0.01);the frequency of G and C allele of the SNP rs6887695 was 65.30％ and 34.70％ respectively in the patients,compared to 58.34％ and 41.66％ respectively in the healthy controls(x2 =16.54,P＜0.01).Significant differences were observed in the distribution of genotypes and alleles of the SNP rs6887695 between patients with chronic plaque psoriasis(n =543)and those with acute guttate psoriasis(n =32,x2 =18.11,12.19,both P ＜ 0.01).Increased frequency of G allele and GG genotype of the SNP rs6887695 were noted in the patients with psoriasis vulgaris compared with the healthy controls,and in the patients with plaque psoriasis compared with those with guttate psoriasis.However,there was no statistical difference in the distribution of SNP rs6887695 genotypes or alleles between 540 patients with adult onset psoriasis and 35 patients with child onset psoriasis,between 102 patients with family history and 440 patients without family history,or between 341 male patients and 234 female patients(all P ＞ 0.05).Conclusions The IL-12B SNP rs6887695 may be associated with the susceptibility to psoriasis vulgaris in Chinese Han population,especially with the susceptibility to plaque psoriasis,but seems unassociated with the age at onset,family history or gender of patients.

The Sonic hedgehog (SHH) signaling pathway plays a pivotal role in neurogenesis and brain damage repair. Our previous work demonstrated that the SHH signaling pathway was involved in the neuroprotection of cortical neurons against oxidative stress. The present study was aimed to further examine the underlying mechanism. The cortical neurons were obtained from one-day old Sprague-Dawley neonate rats. Hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2), 100 μmol/L) was used to treat neurons for 24 h to induce oxidative stress. Exogenous SHH (3 μg/mL) was employed to activate the SHH pathway, and cyclopamine (20 μmol/L), a specific SHH signal inhibitor, to block SHH pathway. LY294002 (20 μmol/L) were used to pre-treat the neurons 30 min before H(2)O(2) treatment and selectively inhibit the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt pathway. The cell viability was measured by MTT and apoptosis rate by flow cytometry analysis. The expression of p38, p-p38, ERK, p-ERK, Akt, p-Akt, Bcl-2, and Bax in neurons was detected by immunoblotting. The results showed that as compared with H(2)O(2) treatment, exogenous SHH could increase the expression of p-Akt by 20% and decrease the expression of p-ERK by 33%. SHH exerted no significant effect on p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK) pathway. Blockade of PI3K/Akt pathway by LY294002 decreased the cell viability by 17% and increased the cell apoptosis rate by 2-fold. LY294002 treatment could up-regulate the expression of the pro-apoptotic gene Bax by 12% and down-regulate the expression of the anti-apoptotic gene Bcl-2 by 54%. In conclusion, SHH pathway may activate PI3K/Akt pathway and inhibit the activation of the ERK pathway in neurons under oxidative stress. The PI3K/Akt pathway plays a key role in the neuroprotection of SHH. SHH/PI3K/Bcl-2 pathway may be implicated in the protection of neurons against H(2)O(2)-induced apoptosis.

Objective To study the clinicopathologic features and explore the potential prognostic factors of extranodal marginal zone lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT lymphoma).Methods 86 patients diagnosed with MALT lymphoma were retrieved and divided into 2 subgroups according to the location of tumor,namely gastric (32 cases) and non-gastric (54 cases) subgroup.Histological characteristics were reassessed on hematoxylin-eosin staining slides,and immunophenotypic features were determined by immunohistochemical staining.Interphase fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) was carried out to detect the cytogenetic abnormalities.Results There were no significant difference of clinical behavior,histology,and immunophenotype between gastric and non-gastric subgroups.In addition,FISH detected t(14;18) in 9 ％ (4/45) and t(11;18) in 12 ％ cases (6/50) respectively.Among the 20 cases treated with H pylori (HP) eradication,a significantly lower remission rate was observed in cases with bcl-10 (20 ％) nuclear expression or those harboring t(11;18) (33 ％) compared with those in the negative group (73 ％,91％)(x2 =3.842 and 4.639,P =0.035 and 0.031,respectively).For the 35 non-gastric patients with follow-up data,males (35 ％) and patients older than 60 yrs (25 ％) tended to have a lower remission rate as compared to females (60 ％) and those younger than 60 yrs (63 ％) (x2 =3.905 and 7.373,P =0.048 and 0.007,respectively).Moreover,progression-free survival rate was significantly lower in patients with higher stage (ⅢⅣ) (25 ％) and without t(14;18) (50 ％) than that in patients with stage Ⅰ-Ⅱ (52 ％) and with t(14;18)(75 ％).The differences had statistical significance (x2 =4.207 and 4.363,P =0.040 and 0.037,respectively).Conclusion MALT lymphoma in general is an indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin’ s lymphoma which more frequently occurs in the elderly people.Differences in the response to treatment or the prognosis are observed between gastric and non-gastric MALT lymphoma patients.

The paper is to report the establishment of a method for quickly evaluating compatibility of Chinese medicines injections. Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) was used to evaluate compatibility of Yiqifumai (YQFM) and vitamin C injection (Vc)/5% glucose injection (5% GS). The diversification of Gibbs free energy (deltaG), enthalpy (deltaH) and entropy (deltaS) were used to decide reaction types of colliquefaction procedures of different injections. The reactive profiles were used to determine signs and quantity of heat. And high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used as a supportive method for ITC. Then, feasible binding sites were analyzed based on the information of spatial structures of major compositions. During the colliquefaction procedure of YQFM and Vc, [deltaH] > T[deltaS], so, the reaction is enthalpy-driving. And the reactive profile showed that a big deal of heat was given out during the procedure. Obviously, chemical reactions happened and the major compositions changed. On the other side, the reaction of YQFM mixed with 5% GS was entropy-driving, because [deltaH] < T[deltaS]. The reactive profile showed there was a little heat gave out. So, non-chemical reactions happened, and the major compositions did not change. The conformity existed between the results of ITC and HPLC. ITC could be used to evaluate the compatibility of Chinese medicines injections because of the advantages of ITC, such as real time, fast, sensitive and having more parameters.

AIM: To investigate alteration of inward re ctifier potassium current (I K1) in atrial myocytes and mRNA expression of gene Kir2.1 encoding I K1 in atrial myocardial tissue in patients with chronic atrial fibrillation (AF) compared to that with sinus rhythm (SR).METHODS: Single myocytes were isolated by enzymatic dissociation with the chunk method an d the ionic current was recorded using whole cell patch clamp technique. The sem i-quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to measure the mRNA expression of Kir2.1 in atrial myocardial tissue, and the g ene GAPDH was used as an internal control.RESULTS: (1) The I K1 density was increased in AF group at hyperpolarizing pot entials, at -120 mV the current densities was (-5.71?0.65) pA/pF in AF group (n=28 cells from 7 patients) and (-4.26?1.22) pA/pF in SR group (n=35 cells from 9 patients) (P0.05).CONCLUSIONS: The increase in I K1 at hyperpolarizing potentials may be related to th e atrial electrophysiological remodeling in chronic human AF. The increased I K1 density in atrial myocytes in AF group without alteration of Kir2.1 mRNA expression in atrial tissue suggests that I K1 may be mediated at post-transcriptional levels.

Objective To investigate the association of IL-23R and IL-12B polymorphisms with susceptibility to psoriasis in Chinese Han population. Methods Patients with psoriasis were recruited based on the diagnostic criteria. In the first phase of the study, three SNPs (rs6887695, rs11465817 and rs1343152)were genotyped in DNA samples from 217 unrelated patients with psoriasis as well as 288 control subjects by direct sequencing. The positive SNP rs6887695 was validated in a larger combined sample including 578 patients with psoriasis and 1422 human controls, by using Taqman fluorescent PCR. The data were assessed by Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium test, chi square test, haplotype analysis and logistic regression model analysis. Results There was a significant difference in the allele frequency of SNP rs6887695 ( OR = 1.33, 95% CI 1.03 - 1.73,P = 0.028) of IL-12B between patients and controls, but not in that of the other two SNPs, rs11465817 and rs1343152 of IL-23R (P > 0.05 ). Hardy-Weinberg test showed that there was a linkage disequilibrium between rs11465817 and rs1343152 SNPs (D' = 0.744, r2 = 0.281 ); further analysis revealed a risk haplotype for psoriasis (A-A: OR = 2.890, P = 0.0018) constructed with 2 risk alleles of rs11465817 and rs1343152. Conclusions The susceptibility to psoriasis seems to be associated with the SNP rs6887695 of IL-1B gene but not with the SNPs rs11465817 or rs1343152 of IL-23R gene in Chinese Han population. The A-A haplotype of rs11465817-rs1343152 in IL-23R gene may increase the risk of psoriasis in Chinese Han population.

Objective To investigate the level and the source of inflammatory factors in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.Methods Thirty patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation were selected as observation group,and 20 cases of patients with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia were selected as control group.The blood samples of coronary sinus,right atria,left atria and femoral vein were consecutively collected during the procedure of radiofrequency ablation.The level of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α,soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor-1 (sTNFR1),and interleukin(IL)-6 was detected by ELISA separately and compared between two groups.Results The level of TNF-α and IL-6 of coronary sinus,right atria,left atria and femoral vein in observation group was significantly higher than that in control group [TNF-α:(4.45 ± 1.76) ng/L vs.(0.59 ± 0.36) ng/L,(6.67 ± 1.43) ng/L vs.(0.51 ± 0.30) ng/L,(8.35 ± 2.03) ng/L vs.(0.85 ± 0.50) ng/L,(9.97 ± 2.70) ng/L vs.(0.28 ± 0.29) ng/L,P=0.000;IL-6:(2.02 ± 0.87) ng/L vs.(1.04 ± 0.63) ng/L,(1.51 ± 0.68) ng/L vs.(0.74 ± 0.26) ng/L,(2.00 ± 0.51) ng/L vs.(0.88 ± 0.35) ng/L,(1.32 ±0.47) ng/L vs.(0.48 ±0.28) ng/L,P =0.000].The level of high sensitivity C reactive protein (hs-CRP) in observation group was significantly higher than that in control group [(2.41 ± 1.35) mg/L vs.(1.10 ±0.53) mg/L,P =0.002].The level of TNF-αof left atrium in observation group was significantly higher than that of other three sites (P=0.000).The level of IL-6 in the coronary sinus and femoral vein was significantly increased,compared with that in the right atria and left atria (P ＜ 0.05).The level of sTNFR 1 in the femoral vein,right atria and coronary sinus difference was not statistically significant (P ＞ 0.05),but was significantly higher than that in the left atria(P ＜ 0.05).The level of TNF-α,IL-6 and hs-CRP was correlated with the diameter of left atrium (LAD) (P ＜ 0.01 or ＜ 0.05).The level of sTNFR1 in left atria was positively correlated with LAD,and the level of sTNFR1 in right atria was negatively correlated with LAD (P ＜ 0.01).Conclusions The level of TNF-α,IL-6 and hs-CRP is increased in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.TNF-α and IL-6 may come from the heart and is related with the enlargement of left atrium.
