OBJECTIVETo investigate the clinicopathological features of gastric cancer in Southern China, and provide a base of research and therapy for gastric cancer.
METHODSA total of 1 879 cases of gastric cancer with radical gastrectomy from Southern China were collected from August 1994 to July 2012. Analyze and summarize the characters of gender, age, tumor location, WHO histopathologic type and grade, pTNM stage and family history, retrospectively.
RESULTSAmong all cases, male to female ratio was 2.08: 1, while female was more than male before 40 years (χ(2) = 77.831, P = 0.000). Cases aged over 60 years had a highest incidence of gastric cancer (46.0%), with predilection of sinus (45.7%), body (26.3%) and cardia (20.1%). The common WHO histopathologic types were tubular or papillary adenocarcinoma (81.5%) and signet ring cell carcinoma (11.0%). Most patients were at III or IV stage on pTNM staging (40.5% and 26.5%).
CONCLUSIONSGastric cancer in Southern China has a predilection on male, while female is more than male before 40 years. Gastric sinus and adenocarcinoma is most common. Most patients are diagnosed at advanced stages.

Objective To evaluate the effects of the serum of patients with obstructive jaundice on myogenic differentiation of human pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMVECs). Methods Hu?man PMVECs were isolated and then subcultured. The cultured PMVECs were incubated with the serum of patients with obstructive jaundice or with the serum of healthy volunteers. At 24, 48 and 72 h of incubation (T1?3), the inverted microscope was used to observe the morphology of primary PMVECs. The expression of muscular proteins ( alpha?smooth muscle actin [α?SMA ] , smooth muscle?mysion heavy chain [ SM?MHC] , capolnin) in PMVECs was detected using Western blot analysis. Results The expression of cal?ponin andα?SMA was negative, and a few SM?MHC proteins were expressed when PMVECs were incubated with the serum of healthy volunteers; the expression of calponin, α?SMA and SM?MHC was positive when PMVECs were incubated with the serum of patients with obstructive jaundice. Compared with the serum of healthy volunteers, the expression of SM?MHC was significantly up?regulated when PMVECs were incubated with the serum of patients with obstructive jaundice (P<0.05). The expression of calponin, α?SMA and SM?MHC was significantly up?regulated at T2,3 compared with that at T1 , and at T3 compared with that at T2 when PMVECs were incubated with the serum of patients with obstructive jaundice ( P<0.05) . Conclusion The serum of patients with obstructive jaundice promotes myogenic differentiation of human PMVECs, which is probably one of the mechanisms underlying intrapulmonary microvascular dilatation.

Objective To explore the preventive effect of twin-tube laryngeal mask airway on gastric lavage and aspiration pneumonia. Methods Between January 2015 and June 2017, 305 cases of poisoning coma patients were admitted to Emergency Department, The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University. According to the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria, 255 cases of poisoning coma patients were enrolled and randomly(random number) divided into 3 groups (n=85 in each group):group A (normal gastric lavage machine method), group B (gastric lavage endotracheal intubation), and group C (gastric lavage twin-tube laryngeal mask airway placement). Whether there was aspiration pneumonia within 12 hours after the onset was observed, and the length of hospital stay, hospitalization cost and mortality were recorded. The mean value of the two samples was compared with t test, and the four-grid data were checked by chi-square test. P<0.05 was statistically significant. Results Compared with group A, the incidence of aspiration pneumonia was significantly lower in group B and group C (group A 56.47%, group B 32.94%, group C 23.53%, P<0.01). Compared with group A, the length of hospital stay in group C was shorter [(3.39±2.12) d vs. (6.06±4.91) d,P<0.05], and the hospitalization cost was less [(25687.52±20803.44) yuan vs. (52213.91±37267.56)yuan,P<0.05]. There was no significant difference of mortality between the three groups (P>0.05).Compared with group B, the length of hospital stay in group C was shorter [(3.39±2.12) d vs.(5.51±4.37) d, P<0.05], and the hospitalization cost was less [(25687.52±20803.44)yuan vs.(50887.82±32399.76) yuan, P<0.05]. There was no significant difference of mortality between the three groups (P>0.05). Conclusions Twin-tube laryngeal mask airway for poisoning coma patients with gastric lavage, can not only ensures effective ventilation, but also reduces the probability of concurrent aspiration pneumonia, shortens hospital stay, and reduces hospitalization cost, but has no obvious effect on mortality.

Objective To investigate the effect of mirror therapy on upper limb function and cortical activity in patients with type I complex regional pain syndrome(CRPS)after stroke. Methods A total of 72 post-stroke patients with type I CRPS were recruited at the Third Rehabilitation Hospital Affiliat-ed to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from October,2017 to February,2022.They were ran-domly divided into control group(n=36)and mirror therapy group(n=36).The control group received conven-tional rehabilitation training, while the mirror therapy group received mirror therapy in addition. Before treat-ment,as well as at three and six weeks after treatment, they were evaluated using the Visual Analog Scale(VAS)for pain, modified Barthel Index(MBI),edema volume and Brunnstrom stage.Resting-state data were collected for 440 seconds using a 32-channel functional near-infrared spectroscopy(fNIRS)system. Results After treatment,VAS scores significantly improved in each group, showing better after six weeks than after three weeks(P<0.01).The mirror therapy group was better than the control group after six weeks(P<0.05).MBI scores also significantly improved in each group, showing better after six weeks than after three weeks(P<0.001).Edema volume significantly decreased in each group(Z>30.113,P<0.001),while the mirror therapy group was better than the control group after six weeks(Z=-3.347,P=0.001).Edema volume in the mirror therapy group significantly reduced at both three and six weeks(Z<-0.667,P<0.01),with a stronger effect ob-served after six weeks(Z=-0.667,P=0.005).Brunnstrom stages improved significantly in each group(Z>29.714,P<0.001),while the mirror therapy group was better than the control group after six weeks(Z=-2.046,P=0.041).After treatment, the control group showed strong connectivity between right M1 and right primary so-matosensory cortex, while the mirror therapy group demonstrated stronger connectivity between left M1 and right M1,right primary somatosensory cortex, right pre-motor and supplementary motor cortex.Connectivity be-tween left and right primary somatosensory cortex increased in mirror therapy group,as well as the connectivity between left pre-motor-supplementary motor cortex and right M1,right pre-motor-supplementary motor cortex and left primary somatosensory cortex, left M1 and left primary somatosensory cortex, and left primary somato-sensory cortex and right M1(∣t∣>3.402,P<0.01). Conclusion Mirror therapy may relieve pain and edema, and improve upper limb motor function in post-stroke patients with type I CRPS,which may associate with stonger connectivity between sensory regions on the unaffected side and sensory-motor regions on the affected side, promoting sensorimotor cortical reorganization.
