Objective To summarize the therapeutic effects of mesh-plug tension-free hernioplasty in eldly bilateral inguinal hernia. Methods 22 patients were treated by mesh-plug hernia repair in one operation. The operative procedure, postoperative pain, ability recovery, com-plications and recurrence rate were studied. Results All the operativeprocedure were performed smoothly. The postoperative complications included:4 cases of scrotal hydroceles, 3 urinary retention and 2 (subcutaneous) haematoma. 1~23 months follow-up were taken, no recent recurrence was founded. Conclusions Mesh-plug tension-free hernioplasty has the advantages of simple performance, less trauma and fewer recurrence. It is especially suitable to the eldly patients with bilateral inguina hernia.

OBJECTIVE:
To explore the three-dimensional ultrasound locatization in endoscopic thyroidectomy for multinodular goiter (MG).
METHOD:
Thirty two patients with MG underwent ET via bilateral areolar approach. Preoperative ultrasonography were used to locate lesions and marked in the 3-D map designed by us. Dur ing ET procedure, surgery skills were adopted to expose inferior pole of thyroid, glands in the area of Berry ligament or (and) upper pole were retained according to the preoperative location map.
RESULT:
According to the preoperative ultrasonic orientation, 3 lobectomy were performed in 15 cases of unilateral lesions, 12 subtotal thyroidectomy were performed in 17 cases of bilateral lesions, and 5 patients performed unilateral lobectomy add partial thyroidectomy. All patients had successful ET using bilateral areola approach. No conversions to open surgery, no complication occurred, and no nodules were found missing in the postoperative ultrasonography examinations.
CONCLUSION
Preoperative ultrasonic orientation and intraoperative operating skills are contributing to a successful ET for MG.

Objective To understand the depressive status of patients with HIV/AIDS and their family members in order to provide objective information for conducting psychological interventions among them. Method The Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) questionnaires were used for assessing the depressive status and the SPSS software was applied for data analysis. Results The SDS values among the patients with HIV/AIDS and the family members of died AIDS patients were significantly higher than those of healthy controls. The proportion of HIV/AIDS patients with medium to severe degree of depression was 15.5%, which was higher than that of healthy controls. The SDS values among female family members of HIV/AIDS patients were higher than those in male ones. Conclusion The depression is a negative psychological status usually occurred among the patients with HIV/AIDS and their family members, and the psychological interventions should be conducted based on the characteristics of different populations.
