AIM: To investigate the effects of Chlamydia pneumoniae infection and hyperlipidemia on the expression of NF-?B and AP-1 in the myocardium. METHODS: The indirect immunofluorescence method was used to examine wild C57BL/6J mice infected with Chlamydia pneumoniae and fed with an atherogenic diet. The expression of the subunit of NF-?B, P50, and c-Fos in the murine myocardium was observed. RESULTS: Chlamydia pneumoniae infection and hyperlipidemia induced the activation of NF-?B and AP-1 in murine myocardium. P50 and c-Fos were not detected in the controls, but there were different levels of positive expression in the experiments (P

Objective To evaluate the effect of sevoflurane on myocardial injury induced by hemorrhagic shock and resuscitation (HS/R) in pigs. Methods Twenty-four Bama miniature pigs (12 males, 12 females) , weighing 20-25 kg, aged 3-5 months, were randomly divided into 3 groups (n=8 each) using a random number table: sham operation group (group S) , HS/R group and sevoflurane group (group Sev). The left and right femoral arteries and right femoral vein were cannulated for blood pressure monitoring, blood-letting, blood sampling and fluid infusion.HS/R was induced by blood-letting maintaining for 1 h, followed by resuscitation with autologous blood reinfusion and infusion of lactated Ringer's solution 2 times the volume of the blood withdrawn. The pigs in group Sev were exposed to 2% sevoflurane for 30 min before resuscitation. After cannulation, at 30 min after hemorrhagic shock, before resuscitation, and at 30 min, and 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 h after resuscitation, blood samples were collected from the femoral artery for determination of creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB) activity and cardiac troponin Ⅰ (cTnI) concentration in serum using an automatic biochemical analyzer.Myocardial specimens were obtained at 3.5 h after resuscitation for detection of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-ot) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) contents (by ELISA) , and phosphor-signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (p-STAT1) expression (by Western blot), and for examination of the pathological changes (with light microscope). Results Compared with S group , the CK-MB activity and cTnI concentration in serum and contents of TNF-α and IL-6 were significantly increased, and the expression of p-STAT1 was up-regulated in HS/R and Sev groups (P<0.05).Compared with HS/R group, the CK-MB activity and cTnI concentration in serum and contents of TNF-α and IL-6 were significantly decreased, and the expression of p-STAT1 was downregulated (P<0.05) , and the pathological changes of myocardia were alleviated in Sev group. Conclusion Sevoflurane can alleviate HS/R-induced damage to myocardia of pigs, and inhibited STAT1 activity and attenuated inflammatory responses in the myocardium are involved in the mechanism.

Chinese Journal of Analytical Chemistry 2001;29(3):333-335
A novel flow injection chemiluminescent enhancement method for the determination of tannic acid based on luminol-KIO4-Mn2+ system is developed. The method is simple, rapid and effective to determine tannic acid in the range of 3.0×10-8~5.0×10-6 mol/L with a detection limit of 9×10-9 mol/L. The relative standard deviation is 1.5% for the determination of 1.0×10-6 mol/L tannic acid (n=11). The mehtod has been applied to determine the content of tannic acid in Chinese gall with satisfactory results.

Objective To study the clinical effect of microsurgical treatment of craniopharyngioma by modified pterional approach. Methods Forty-one patients were carried out a retrospective case study with craniopharyngioma who underwent microsurgieal treatment via modified pterional approach at our department.Preoperative preparation mainly included hormone replacement therapy and prevention of epilepsy. The modified pterional approach was adopted. The patients' clinical indications were monitored postoperatively such as consciousness, blood pressure, in and out quantity of water, urine specific gravity, electrolytes, CT and MRI, and prompt prevention and treatment of the complications including diabetes insipidus and disorder of electrolytes were carried out after the surgery.Meanwhile, measures were taken to prevent postoperative epilepsy and low level of hormone. Results Thrrty-three patients had total craniopharyngioma resection, 5 had subtotal craniopharyngioma resection and 3 had partial craniopharyngioma resection, and all of them survived from the surgery.2 to 19 months postoperative follow-up showed that 32 patients could normally live, study and work, while 9 patients had to be assisted for normal lives. There was a recurrence of the tumor in 3 patients out of 8 patients that had subtotal and partial craniopharyngioma resection within 12 months postoperatively. Conclusion Adopting modified pterional approach plus efficient and effective perioperative management can reduce the damage rate of hypothalamus and improve the total resection rate of the craniopharyngioma, and achieve good results of the treatment.

BACKGROUND: Blood pressure of children increases with ages, and is related to anthropometric parameters, diet, sports, and other factors. To analyze relative factor of a little high blood pressure of children provides a scientific evidence for prevention and cure of primary hypertension. OBJECTIVE: To investigate correlation between blood pressure and anthropometric parameters among children. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. SETTING: Department of Hygiene of Weifang Medical College. PARTICIPANTS: According to cluster sampling, 1 546 pupils in grade three or four were selected from a primary school for physical examination and questionnaires. Totally 1 508 pupils with complete data were regarded as the subjects.METHODS: Partial correlation analysis was used to analyze correlation between blood pressure and anthropometric parameters among children.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Correlation among anthropometric parameters, systolic pressure and diastolic pressure.RESULTS: ① Correlation coefficients of systolic pressure with sex, age, height, body mass, chest circumference of Peason were 0.078, 0.166, 0.337, 0.313 and 0.304 (P < 0.01). ② Correlation coefficients of diastolic pressure with sex, age, height, body mass, chest circumference of Peason were 0.047, 0.120, 0.268, 0.271 and 0.251 (P < 0.01). ③ After controlling two effect of anthropometric parameters on each other, systolic pressure and diastolic pressure were only correlated with height and chest circumference (P < 0.01), but was not correlated with age, sex and body mass (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: After controlling the effect of anthropometric parameters on each other, systolic pressure and diastolic pressure of children were positively correlated with height and chest circumference.

Objective To detect the pathological expressions of TNF-? and VEGF in interspinous ligament of patients with ankylosing spondylitis(AS) in active stage. Methods The expressions of TNF-? mRNA and VEGF mRNA in the interspinous ligament of patient with AS group and control group were detected by hybridization in situ. Their different results were compared by image analysis system and the correlation between TNF-? mRNA, VEGF mRNA and both AS disease active index (DAI) and C reactive protein (CRP) was analysed respectively. Results The expressions of TNF-? mRNA and VEGF mRNA in the interspinous ligament of patients with active AS were positive, but those of the control group were negtive. Statistical differences existed in the positive cell numbers and in image gray scale value of AS group (P
